Does this whole thing remind anyone else of that scene from Family Guy where Peter takes the 'mystery box' over a boat because "a boats a boat, but the mystery box could be anything! It could even be a boat!" What an insane take.

No way; an OTT fan wouldn't trade Pinto for Hronek and stick themselves with 3 D-men making $8mil+ per year, especially when Hronek has only exploded next to Hughes and before that was a ~$6mil-ish player. Sounds like a short sighted "hockey fan" rather than a real VAN or OTT fan

WAY too much for Meyers. He is not worth anything over 2-3, and signing him for that 2nd year is a mistake.
Throw in a 2nd from OTT to NJD to try and balance it out a bit more. Seems a bit lopsided.

Goaltender change
I'm going to go against NSH fans here, but I think OTT would decline that trade. WAY too much to give up for a goalie. When you look at comps, a 1st + a 2nd is more than enough to get a good goalie.
Just buy out Korpi. It is a very digestible buy-out, especially as the cap rises, and doesn't cost us exorbitant assets such as Joseph. If we really want Saros, comps suggest a 1st and Kleven (or a similar level pick/prospect) should do.

I'd prefer a long-term deal for Pinto over a 2-yr bridge (cap is an issue, maybe no TvR?), but otherwise I'd be happy with this team. Seems solid throughout.

JBD>Ludvig
Korpi is a cheap buy-out and won't be worth the cost to dump him
Jarry isn't worth a 1st
Kleven is one of our better D prospects
OTT isn't trading away a 1st for a marginal upgrade in net
There might be something there for a 50% retained Smith, but not involving any of the pieces you've mentioned here.

Especially if they're a LH LW. On the left we've realistically got Tkachuk, Greig/Pinto, Joseph, and Kelly plus Jarventie and Crookshank ready to come up. If they were on RW it'd be different, but it just doesn't seem like enough of a need to pass on a 1st.

How are you supposed to work with this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Gee, I don't see why you think the Leafs cap situation is so bad. Lots of teams are at the cap, and that includes non playoff teams.
Those UFA signings are practical for the Leafs.
9m for Roy and 3m for Dillon might be nice but ain't happening. Benoit should get a little more, and Robertson too.which leaves 8m for two NHL UFAs. Who? Maybe Tanev and Lubushin.
Jarnkrok is not centre. Tavares is still a 2C so he stays at centre, which makes Stephenson really unnecessary. Maybe Domi or somewhat similar gets 3.25m.
Kinda funny you would criticize the Leafs cap. Look at the Jets The cap goes up 4.3m....and the Jets have spent that on Helly and Schef all ready. Toffoli and Monahan are on cheap retained contracts, if those players return, that a big cap upwards .</div></div>
There has been a lot of chatter around Tavares being too slow to play 2C. I don't know how much of it is a legit issue versus TOR fans/media overreacting, but I can see the logic there.
Robertson - Stephenson - Nylander
Jarnkrok - Tavares - McMann
Seems like a better middle-6 anyway. Scratch Holmberg unless Dewar struggles at 4LW for some internal competition.
Tanev would be an excellent add for TOR and cost a pinch less than Roy here (plus rumours are Roy won't sign in Canada), but there will be a bidding war for him.

I think OP means that if DeBrusk signs a 2yr now and then a 7yr afterwards for the same AAV, he could extend his 'contract' by 2 additional years. I could be mistaken, however, since that carries a lot of risk and assumptions.

OTT declines. Bolduc, as a LHD, is completely unnecessary for the Sens and wouldn't move the needle at all in terms of return value (they still have Chabot, Sanderson, Brannstrom,Kleven), Wahlstrom is very meh and doesn't hold value, Pageau isn't worth the $5mil AAV for the Sens (their C depth is insane w/ Stutzle, Pinto, Greig, Ostapchuk, Giroux, Kastelic, and Chartier available, plus Norris if he returns).
The only real pieces of value for OTT would be the two 2nds which, unfortunately, wouldn't be enough to get Chychrun (I would think).

Goal-tending needs to be addressed. Korpi is gone. Bought-out.
You hope Norris returns healthy and on the wing next year. You Stu-Pinto-Grieg down the middle now and I think he can thrive beside Stu or Grieg.
Overall, they've been playing with zero structure in front of their goalies...
"Facing the Sens feels like a completely different experience than facing most teams. It's felt like they don't play with any structure. It's fully run and gun. It's a chaotic strategy that'll either work if they have a number of things go their way, or will completely explode on them and they'll look like a peewee team. It's truly just not sustainable and makes it impossible for a goalie to come in and have a fair shot."
You look at a guy like Cam Talbot:

Since 19-20: here's how his seasons have looked. I want you to guess which year he played behind the Sens D corps:

OTT declines. JBD>Ludvig, cheaper to just buy out Korpi and keep Kleven. Would just end up being Jarry for a 1st which is the high end of what goalies go for (and Jarry isn't that) so it seems like this deal wouldn't work.

Isles 24-25 season
The valuation here is very off if you're trying to get Pinto.
To being with, Pinto is VERY highly regarding by OTT. The cost to acquiring him would be incredibly high and would make you balk at the price. Remove Chychrun and they'd still say no level of valuation, so I'm sure there's not a deal there.
Furthermore, the pieces you've included aren't of interest to OTT. Pelech is a LHD and moving Chychrun would only be done to address the LHD/RHD imbalance OTT has. Offering a LHD in return for Chychrun makes no sense. Also, C is a position of strength for OTT (Stutzle, Giroux, Pinto, Greig, Kastelic, Ostapchuk all play C, and that excludes Norris) so giving up assets for an overpaid bottom-6 C doesn't make sense.
Ergo, the only thing of value to OTT is the trade is a 2025 1st. Not worth the major assets you've requested in exchange.

Sennies Retool Redditor Disapproved Edition
I'd love to see Ostapchuk play that 4C role over Kastelic tbh. Maybe we could buy out Korpi and use Kastelic to get bargaining rights to Desmith out of VAN? Sign him to run a tandem with Sogaard/Forsberg with the threat of AHL demotion for the latter two as incentive to pull it together. We can survive the one more year of Forsberg so I'd rather just keep him and the 4th and with our goalie injury history, the depth would be nice.
As an aside, if we waive Forsberg and someone claims him then problem solved anyway.

Talbott was a negative GsaX / 60 goaltender in the two years before he went to Ottawa. Korpisalo was a horrendous goaltender from 20 to 22 with regards to GSax / 60 and had a hot stretch.</div></div>
Agreed on both counts re: Talbot and Korpi. No idea what PD was thinking in either case when he made moves for them, but that ship has long since sailed.
If it is a requirement for Ullmark to waive his NTC, assuming OTT is on it (which it will be), I'm not sure if I'd make the move. If he'd take a two-year deal at a similar cap hit to what he has now, I'd give it some serious thought, but it does complicate things.

I'm not a doctor so I can't do much more than regurgitate other news outlets, but from what I've read he requires a 3rd surgery on it. The timeline for return is 4-6 months, meaning he could be back in time for training camp, but at this point the question arises about the viability of his shoulder in the long and short-term. Last year he had a similar prognosis and still missed training camp, so if we assume a similar timeline he is likely out for next season as well, but maybe back for the playoffs Mark Stone style.

I'd be hesitant to give Ullmark an extension before seeing how he fares in OTT, considering how sharply Talbot and Korpi dropped once coming here. I can't envision Pinto or Chychrun being used for a goalie; goalies typically don't carry that much value. A late 1st is typically the high end mark for a good goaltender if we look at past trade comps.
