Deadline
Caps hang up and laugh. There's only 2 options for them. 1 a mutual termination of the deal, 2 a buyout this offseason. Caps will have plenty of money this offseason regardless so there is no point in making a deal like this.

It's gonna have to be a 3 way deal where another team retains 50% as well. That's the only way I can see it happening.

If the Caps made Dowd available I'd imagine they could get a much better deal elsewhere. Think something similar to the Barclay Goodrow trade in 2020.

They have looked better but I feel at the same time it will be 2 Atlantic teams in WC spots or one of PITT/PHI
Maybe they go on a serious run to solidify their playoff spot but idk I think its time for change.</div></div>
Philly in the playoffs? I find that hard to believe. Caps are more likely to win the Stanley cup than Philly is to make the playoffs.

I would give up Vanecek over Samsonov based on that Samsonov has more upside. I haven't really kept up with Jersey this year, but what's up with Blackwood this year? Has he been playing injured or has he just been subpar?

USA olympic team
Being that the olympics are in 2022. I could see Brady Tkachuk replacing Oshie. Oshie is gonna be 35 and most likely regressing. Other than that this is a pretty good team that definitely should be able to compete and go very far.

While Kempny is definitely going to be unprotected. I can't see Seattle taking him after he tore his achilles this offseason. The only reason I can see him being taken is if the caps make a trade with Seattle and give them some picks to ensure Kempny is taken. Other than that. Keep an eye on Oshie, Schultz, Orlov, and Sprong or Hathaway. In my opinion one of these 5 players are gonna be the favorites to be taken.

As much as I don't like to say it. I see Oshie not being protected and ending up being selected. The caps may have to pay some expansion draft "considerations" though. Thats best case scenario. So I doubt it happens.

Id personally would try and keep Siegenthaler and try to get off of Schultz contract. Seigs is a younger defensive DMan which the caps can't afford to get rid of. Instead of moving Eller, Panik is the one to go. Panik would be much easier to replace than Eller. I also don't think the Caps would put McMichael in as a C to start his career off. The Jensen and Kempny moves aren't bad. But im afraid Kempny absolutely killed his value and is worth more like a 6th or 7th.

As a caps fan I would take that and run. But you're right that Oshie may not be protected. I believe its gonna be one of Oshie Dillon or Schultz that ends up in Seattle.

2020-1 Caps
I don't know about you, but I personally feel like a pairing of Orlov and Schultz wouldn't really be all that good. Both of them aren't the greatest at defending. Granted Jack Johnson and injuries didn't help out Schultz one bit last season. If the Caps try and pair both of them with a more defensive minded DMan, it could really help both of their games. For example I would pair Orlov with Siegenthaler and Fehervary with Schultz.

Getting under the cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>Panik last 20 games he had 12 points. (.6ppg) thats roughly a 50 point pace. you could argue that he needed time to adjust to the capitals system but he was absolutely on fire at the end of the year. What does Panik add to the team? YOu mean besides solid offensive numbers, great defensive numbers and the 2nd best possession numbers on the team? Pinho or Gersich are both average AHL players and you want them to play on a cup contender roster?</div></div>
Who says that Panik isn't gonna be trash at the beginning of the season again? He really didn't work on the third line this past season. He started to heat up after joining the 4th line. With the way the Caps cap situation is. Do you really think it's worth it to keep a guy getting paid 2.5 mil on the 4th line? That 2.5 mil opens up more money for Siegenthaler and if need be they can sign a 4th liner for league minimum. If Panik was a good PK or PP player I'd probably change my mind. But he's just an overpaid 4th liner for a team that needs cap space.

I personally have to disagree with you. What does Panik add to the team? He's not good enough to be apart of the PK or PP. Hagelin was a big reason why the PK was as good as it was last year. Id say move Sprong to the 3rd line RW. Then have a guy like Pinho or Gersich as the 4th line LW. Also Panik played 4th line wing last year. Does the front office want to pay a 4th liner 2.5mil? I can't really see them doing so.

Getting under the cap
As a fellow caps fan I 100% agree with moving on with Panik. But instead of moving on with Siegenthaler, I would rather move on from Jensen. I know Siegs is gonna demand a smaller contract and would be easier to trade. But he's the better player. The problem is that I don't know of many teams that would take on the 5mil from Jensen and Panik. I'd personally trade a 3rd from 2022 with Jensen and Panik to a team like Detroit or Ottawa and see if they're willing to take both of them for like a 4th or a 5th.

2020 lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>staytru20</b></div><div>Orlov isn't very good on the right side. I have no idea why this site has him listed as an RD. Jensen is also not great on his off-side. Forward group looks good, I like Sprong on the third line with more defensively responsible players like Eller and Hagelin.
I think the defensive corps end up looking like:
Dillon - Carlson
Orlov - Schultz
Fehervary/Siegenthaler - Jensen
I think TVR is more of an insurance policy for Schultz, since he's pretty darn injury prone. I really think that's why Jensen hasn't been moved, since he's still capable of a second or third pairing deployment. What I'd really love is Schultz getting some sheltered deployments.</div></div>
Yeah I totally forgot about Siegenthaler because he's an RFA and I just didn't really think about that.
