Full Rebuild - Better Than Current Group
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>themostleaf33</b></div><div>Trading a star player takes time. It took all summer for Karlsson to be moved. Meier wasn't moved until the deadline this year.
The Leafs management situation isn't even confirmed yet for next season. There is less than 2 months until July 1st. The chances that the leafs figure out their management situation, make Marner and Matthews available, get offers (that will inevitably not be what they are looking for), and figure out the cap situation, July 1st will have come and gone. There just isn't enough time to make a trade involving those guys below July 1st</div></div>
This is far too logical of an argument to be included in the same thread as this ACGM post.

Well said and I can't agree more. Tolerance of abuse, whether it be sexual or any kind in a professional sport is unacceptable, full stop. End of story, he should never coach again and honestly should face criminal charges imo.

Totally agree. I'm saying it's a strategy I would gamble on being down 0-2. If we were up 2-0 I'd say don't stir the pot.

I would also challenge Bunting to get under Tkatchuk's skin. Bunting takes a ton of abuse anyways, we all know Matty can be rattled, put it to the test. Even if he snaps and jumps bunting, I'd take that trade off to have him TKatchuk off the ice for 5, and possibly instigator.

I think the best way for the Leafs to respond is to target Bob and Barkov. Like accidental falling on goalie, drive the net, make them push you into the goalie. Then when Florida reacts, team toughness mentality. Nobody has to drop gloves, just tie up a guy and eat a couple gloved punches to the face if you have to and hopefully they take the dumb penalty. With Barkov, he needs to be hit every time he has the puck. Small jabs, taps and cross checks at every opportunity.

I find the fine to be completely dumb. It says to the player that you can get away with intentional cross check to the head and it only costs you $5k, which is NOTHING to any player in the NHL.

Holl-elujah</div></div>
Really love seeing Knies quickly moving up the lineup. I kind of would prefer him with JT and Marner though. I feel like him and JT have a similar skill set and could really dominate the play along the boards in deep and Marner looking to set up either is deadly. I don't hate him with Matthews either just expect Matthews line to get the tougher line matchup. I was worried about Lilly going in after not playing for so long but he looked solid to me and can't wait to see him tonight!

I agree with you and have long been a fan of Rielly's effort level come playoffs. Even in years previous years where we've lost, Rielly has been the most consistent in terms of effort. Also it's nice to see all the big boys putting up points. That used to be a huge criticism of the Leafs in the playoffs as well. Can't wait to watch them in round 2!

Well, the buds let another chance slip by. Reading through your comments, I agree that Holl had a bad game and yet it was still basically a 1 goal game (empty netter I know). Sammy let in one real soft goal and that was the difference. Not to mention the blatant high sticking non-call on Knies late in the third. It's so easy to throw the low hanging fruit under the bus, but at the same time here we are, still one win away from moving on! I really think the boys can get it done this year. I think they should run this lineup in on the road:
Bunting - Matthews - Nylander
Kerfy - JT - Marner
Knies - ROR - Acciari
Jarnkrok - Kampf - Lafferty
Moving Knies to ROR's line spreads the offensive threat across three lines. Bunting is most effective with Matthews, Kerfoot has played with with JT and Marner and quite honestly Jarnkrok hasn't really done anything in the top 6. As much hate as Holl is getting I think they leave the D the same.

Personally I like Lafferty but he doesn't have the same scoring touch that bunting has. Isn't it nice arguing about all the capable NHLers we have that should be in the lineup instead of worrying about having to give minutes to guys who shouldn't be in the lineup?

They are blasting off like we need them to. I know guys on here hate Lafferty for some reason, I think it's the same reason they don't like Engvall. Nothing happens when he's on the ice. Good or bad. And I am totally fine with that. He hits and is fast but doesn't do much one way or another. Same with ZAR. If you don't score what do you do? Keep it out of your net and they do that. Just roll with what has got you this far and re-evaluate after the round is over. Hopefully Thursday night</div></div>
Well put. I'm fine with agreeing to disagree. If bunting sits, I hope you're right and if bunting plays I hope I'm right. I just want the win!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>Tampa is a cheap and dirty team and they will want some sort of revenge for Cernak. So at the very least Bunting is going to have to answer the bell for that. What scares me is that a) the refs are going to let it happen at the very least or worse case call Bunting for a dive when it happens. Or b) they will go after bunting and try to drag everyone else into it as well to get a free chance at getting Matthews and co into the muck.
Why bother giving them the chance? Sit him for game 5 and if they lose then give him game 6. But if they sit him 1 game then you are sending him a message and also saving yourself from the nonsense Tampa will pull. Send them home and bring Bunting back for the next round. Clean slate.</div></div>
I very much understand your point, but I disagree and I'll explain. To me, this line of thinking represents an underlying reason of why the Leafs have been unable to close out a series. The fear of losing or the fear of someone making a bad play that is costly. This is the playoffs and competition is extremely high, players are going to make mistakes. Sure the argument is to ice the team that makes the least amount of mistakes. But you want to ice the team that gives you the best chance to win. IMO Bunting makes the lineup better. Bunting is a guy that you hate to play against but love on your team, I'm personally rooting for him. To close out the series the Leafs need to take it to them, dictate pace and put more pucks in the net the rest is just noise.
