I'm sure if Bear doesn't return to Van then they'd be looking for a move like this but they'd have to include some money going back like Beauvillier or Garland. Maybe a lesser pick (like a 5th) could go plus Beau retained and Caps could send Beau on his way in a double retention move for another pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigShoots</b></div><div>Stats definitely will lie to you on Tuch. If you watched Vegas games regularly you he was the best player on the ice like every 3rd game. Absolutely expected him to do what he has in Buffalo when he was traded. As for Krebs, he seemed to bounce around but was good everywhere he played. Absolutely was worth a high 1st at the time.
But the more difficult thing to quantify is the difference between Buchnevich and Draisaitl. As good as Buchnevich is, Draisaitl is another 50% better. You pay a premium for that. There are quite a few Buchnevich level guys, every yr you can get one via free agency or trade. Draisailt level you basically need to draft because they are never traded or get to UFA.</div></div>
Heh. Sure, man.

Mokumboi will choose ignore objective statistics for players and instead swear that his singular eye test holds more merit. A common theme with him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Hahahaha! Dom's model is NOT data. It's entirely subjective, entirely based on a highly flawed on-ice stat (not individual). Just because that clown acts like it's gospel does not make it so. Meanwhile, Faulk is coming off a career high in points...
And let's be very clear: you somehow imagine he's worth absolutely nothing, if not negative value. Thats what I'm debating against. But sure, pretend I'm saying he's worth a ton.</div></div>
Doms model is not subjective at all.... Athletic combines stats like xG, toi relative to qot/qoc, and then funnels those stats into percentiles based on players in similar positions.
It'd be much easier if you said you had no idea what you're talking about lmao.

MSL is pushing for Garland and trying to convice Hughes to make it happen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>future_gm</b></div><div>Your guy isn’t better than Armia. Garland has 3yrs left at 5M. Armia has 2yrs left at 3.4M. If we didn’t have too many NHL caliber forwards Armia would have probably matched Garland in term of points so basically 3. The reality of it is that Garland value has hit rock bottom. Your reasoning doesn’t make sens, you’re telling me a team will take on his 4.9M cap with 3 yrs left without sending a dump back to help y’all make space for a RD? Garland is in the same category of Mantha and Armia. He isn’t better.</div></div>
Garland is a far better player than Armia it isn’t even close lol
Armia hasn’t put up more than 14 points since 2019/20
Garland in the last 4 seasons
46 points in 81 games, 52 points in 77 games, 39 points in 49 games, 39 points in 68 games
Garland has also had elite 5v5 metrics, and is good defensively as well. He’s a 2nd liner making 2nd line money. Maybe 500K overpaid at most. Armia is an AHL level player making 3.4M

Yeah. And if that other move were significant enough to require moving a $6m cap hit, it would probably also require spending VAN's 2024 1st. Which would then make it unavailable for the purpose of dumping a player, and I highly doubt VAN would want to move two first round picks to get one move done.

As for Garland I think worst case scenario is we keep him into next offseason when the cap goes up 4-5 mil at which time his cap hit will look good to other teams and the term will only be 2 yrs. I think at that point we could get an asset for him. But I agree i would not trade him retained that would be a panic move that would hurt the team long term.</div></div>
I agree with you 100%. Worst case I think you can give him away after this year. I don't like retaining unless we're doing it to make him an asset that brings back real value. Like I would consider 1m retention for Fabbro. Improves us and gives cap space this year, plus he's an RFA so we are getting long-term RD.

I don't think the Canucks should do that. If Jensen had 1 year left yes for sure, but not with term. There would need to be no retention to consider.

Canucks decline. The point of moving Garland is to clear cap space. If he has to be retained to move in a deal like this they'd rather just keep him as he's the better player and worth the same with the retention, they won't retain and take on a worse player for no cap savings.

Peeke for Beauvillier
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigShoots</b></div><div>I look at some of the modeling of his play and it's just a disaster. He is a young, big, strong RD and those are very hard to come by so perhaps you'd bet on him if youd been scouting him and saw something you liked. Having rarely watched him I rely heavily on the advanced data and it suggests he's awful.
Would you have anything to say to that in terms your impression of who he is currently (given the poor metrics) and who he might become.
It's the 2.5 mil for 3 more yrs that scares me. But again if he is somehow better than his numbers all of a sudden thats not much at all. Give me a reason to believe in him.</div></div>
Honestly, I'm not going to be the person to advocate for him. Part of why I want Peeke traded over someone like Boqvist is because his advanced metrics <em>are</em> awful, and the eye-test doesn't do him many favors. A lot of what I I see is a big-body physical-minded defenseman who doesn't know how or when to be physical, and he's often out of place because he's trying to be physical or use his body where his stick or positioning would suffice. That leads to a lot of penalties as well.
The saving grace is that you can correct a lot of that with good coaching, but I'm worried he is what he is, and he's not going to change his play style to a modern game. With good coaching (and he does seem to be coachable), he can become a solid shutdown guy with a physical edge and a sneaky good shot, who blocks a ton of shots, which are his best qualities. He could be a very good 3RD, or at least a solid 2RD, who can play up the lineup if need be and open up a more offensive-minded defense partner. That's the reason to believe in him.
The worst case scenario: he doesn't correct his flaws, and gets consistently eaten up by more skilled and faster players. His game becomes more and more desperation and less disciplined, and he becomes totally unusable in a few years. If that's the case, it's still not a huge contract; it just depends on if you want to take a chance on him.
The reality is, I think a lot of GMs look at him as a reliable, huge, defensively-responsible RD with a desirable physical edge, and they're willing to overpay for that. The contract is a boon if you think he can reach the consistent 2RD ceiling, and the team control until he's 28 at a reasonable rate is also nice if you think he's worth it. My hope is that someone does overpay for him, because we already have an older, similar player on a more expensive deal in Gudbranson.

Garlander plus for Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BigShoots</b></div><div>It's the reason he's the one you're willing to trade first. Doesn't mean he's bad. Far from it. But there are warts. Not the type I would want to add to the Canucks and commit big money to because we are already soft, we don't struggle to score, we have cap issues, we have wing depth and are short everywhere else.
Whos Borjshlapsky?</div></div>
The guy who keeps posting these horrendous Nylander trades. And don't worry, the Canucks will not be getting Nylander. Especially not for Garland and an AHL player and 2 2nds.

Pearson will be coming off LTIR at the start of training camp and unlike the leafs, the Canucks can't just put players there to avoid their cap hit. So, no we don't have cap space for that.
