Yeah if people dont value Danault, it's their prerogative. The guy plays 20 minutes night and regularly dominates possession. You cant appreciate these guys like Cirelli and Danault til they play on your team. Neither are going anywhere

I don't care how we acquired him. I do watch the games, that's how I can tell you he isn't an NHL defensemen. Some nights he plays like he's the best defensemen in the league and other nights he plays like he's a bottom pairing AHL defensemen. You can't have that in your lineup if you want to win games.

That's the GM's dilemma. It's the hockey version of "better to stay silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt." At present, there are still legions of JP fans who believe Puljujarvi is still an unpolished gem, but giving him 20 games to showcase and have him be a bust could cost the Oilers games, maybe a playoff spot, and any hope of recouping some value for him. He will then be branded another Oilers bust.

He will play right wing on the 4th line. No need for Paquet. The quality of the backup goalie will make all the difference and Mtl will make the playoff. No need to rush Harris if Edmundson sign with Mtl. Romanov is next on the dept chart. Demchenko will play another year in the KHL. McNiven will be the Primeau's backup goalie......

I wouldn't trade Danault this summer, even if the 10 ovr is very tempting, especially this year. Danault is a safe bet if Suzuki or KK struggle a little this year. If we want to make sure we're not in the buttom of the league, we mustn't put all our eggs in the same basket and hoping Suzuki and KK will do 60-70pts this year. I would look more at the TDL (if we still want to trade him), where his value will be even better, and get a very high pick next year or a pick and a A/A+ prospect.

Pros and Cons.... Habs right now.
I’m not that upset about missing out on Lafrenière. Now if MIN wins the lottery that might change my mind, but I wasn’t getting my hopes up to begin with. I’m a little disappointed that we’ll pick 16th instead of 9th, but we didn’t really NEED to get a high pick, and who knows, maybe we get a really good player, like we did with Caufield last year. Otherwise, I’m excited. Sure I didn’t really need this team to prove that it can win with the core it has, but it’s good to see it nonetheless.
Now I’m just focusing on Philly/Tampa, and seeing what we can do against them. I’m not holding my breath, but it should be fun, win or lose.

Not to mention it will depend on what team wins the draft lottery, teams like EDM, TOR, PIT, NSH would much rather have 1 young cheap superstar over any package deal imaginable. Perhaps if WIN or MIN win, a trade might be possible

No one will trade Laffy. That would be very stupid.
I am pissed we won honestly. We badly needed ELITE talent. Because we never attract good ufa, our only way of getting good talent was the draft and we scrapped everything by this fck win. Now let’s hope to have an enough good run to maybe help attract better UFA, but I doubt it .
We will over pay Danault, Tatar,
Gally instead because we won’t have other choice .

Pros and Cons.... Habs right now.
Habs just beat Pittsburgh..........................:popcorn
Pros:
- Young players like Suzuki and Kotkaniemi got vital experience and confidence. Lot of people tend to shrug this off as not a big deal because it kind of feels like an intangible but playoff experience and more importantly success, acts like a multiplier on players development. Every playoff win compounds and really helps a players confidence (assuming they actually played a decent part in the success)
- Players values increased. Guys like Domi and Drouin probably didn't really improve their value but many of the others guys increased their trade values if they should be moved.
- "Once you get in, anything can happen." - I mean I can't stand this motto but yes technically it's true.
- Image. Montreal's image just got a serious bump. With UFA's and resigning players mainly. Maybe not enough to get Hall to come here but even if gets some of the smaller guys t want to come that's good and helping pending UFA's want to resign as well. This win coupled with more wins should help those causes.
- Culture improvement. Winning makes getting better easier (as weird as that sounds). No one wants to be a Sabres, Oilers fan right now. A winning culture is really really important. Consider it another one of those intangible things that can't be quantified but every hockey player will tell you is really important to being "good".
Cons:
- Missed out on 12.5% of Lafreniere. A true stud but not just any stud, a hometown kid that the french media constantly babbles about the Habs never making any major efforts to go out and get.
- Missed out the 9th pick which my gut tells me would have been Jake Sanderson. I think this kid could have been our future pillar on defense similar to Ryan Suter or Ryan McDonagh. For argument sake, assume it isn't Sanderson because he's taken earlier, that means it pushes one of the other guys I had in the top 8, into the Habs slot which I would have been equally happy with. Perfetti, Lundell, Holtz, Quinn, etc. Now with 16th or worse if the Habs manage the impossible, I just feel the quality of pick drops off significantly at....you guess it. 16-18ish.
- Not only do the Habs not get Lafreniere or the 9th pick but now Pitts has that chance at Laf and even if they don't, they get a 10-15 pick which is still gonna be a good player. Another great asset to a team within our conference that already has studs on it.
- Habs lack that superstar player in his prime (Price as amazing as he is getting up there in age) While Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, Romanov, Caulfield could all be really good players, (Suzuki really tooks steps in this playoff) I still think we lack that elite player like Lafreniere. 12.5% was the best odds we've had at a superstar in a long long long time. This really was the year we needed to suck.
- Winning the lottery (although unlikely) would have fast tracked the Habs into being contender soon. Instead having to wait on the development of Suzuki and KK with hopefully Romanov and Caufield take the big step next year. Laf would have given us a true under 23 core of studs. Arguably Sanderson or whomever would have also.
I might have missed a couple aspects but I think I got the important ones out of the way.
How do I feel? My gut tells me this win will come back to haunt the Habs down the road. I think cons are great and definitely will help the future of this team but based on what this team was for 6 months of the year, this team really deserved a top prospect, in one of the best drafts in recent memory, this year.
So.................. how you feeling Habs fans?

This is a great deal for Toronto, not negating that, this is however bad for Montreal as Domi has more upside and can score 60-70 points if he plays on the top 6 consistently unlike this year. Yes Kapanen is good, but TML will likely deal him for a decent RD. I think Kapanen is worth at best a late first. Since they don’t have leverage though, I see him being deal for a bottom pairing RD with upside and a 3rd.

If Domi would be more comfortable playing the wing, I would keep him, and wouldn't think twice about putting him on the block. Habs need more skilled players, and Domi fits the bill, and is also one of the few players that thrives in a pressure cooker environment like MTL.
Truth is Domi is more suited at Center, and wants to be a Center. and with his expiring contract, Habs are probably looking at how Domi fits long term, and I don't think they see him bumping Danault, Suzuki, or KK from a Center spot.
I'm in the same boat as F50marco. Habs have probably already made up their minds, and Domi will be moved this offseason. Silver lining is the Habs aren't going to just move him for a prospect package, just for the sake of changing things up. Bergevin will try and package Domi with other assets (or take on cap) for an upgrade imo.

Too many people try to trade players they dont like (low value assets) for something good. This is not how it work.
The fact that he is a good offense creator with grit and a RFA status is why we like him, but also why he has value for a good return.
Since top 9 center and wings positions can be filled without him, it makes sense to trade Domi for immediate defense help.

If it were up to me, I wouldn't unless the value was there. But Habs management seems content on under utilizing him while simultaneously pointing the blame at him for not producing. My gut tells me they've already made up their minds. No problem relishing in his ability when he's scoring 72 points but score 44 points on crappy team with sub par linemates ? Yeah he's the problem. :huff
Trading Domi is about getting proper value while they can get it. His value is only going to go down in Montreal from here. They're not going to play him in a situation to be able to score 72 again..... Habs have a knack for waiting till a players value has gone down, before trading him. This too wouldn't surprise me.

Cause he brings back the best return and we already have too many Centers. KK and Suzuki are going to be great one day probably in like 1-3 years and we have the ability to wait for them cause we are not contending this year or next year without a major couple of moves. That makes Domi the most expendable because he is in his prime now and in 3 years will be on the back side of his career ßo we need to move him while his value is the highest to maximize our return. Domi will be a great 2C for whatever team trades for him and I suspect that will be a team like Buffalo, Winnipeg, Columbus or Minnesota. Also if We do end up making a big trade or FA signing Domi's contract will hinder our ability to retain our better players next season guys like Gally, Danault, Tatar, Petry and Kotkaniemi
