Leafs offical line up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Marincin still might be waived and Borgman/Rosen stay with the Leafs. Lupul status is that is on LTIR, nothing has changed. Admit it might change after the examination.</div></div>
Palhal, as best I understand, Lupul has not been put on LTIR yet. The process starts with the Leafs medical (which he failed, putting him on IR for the start of the season), then a Leafs' application to the League to allow him to be categorized as "LTIR". It's at this point where the League requested a second medical, so he could be approved for LTIR as early as today but until the League approves, Lupul is not on LTIR. It's up to the Leafs to release the results of the LTIR application/2nd medical. Should hear more today...

Leafs offical line up
It's not official, at least yet. The choice between Rosen and Borgman has not been confirmed yet. Same for Moore vs Fehr. But this lineup has a good chance of being what Babcock goes with.
EDIT: Lupul's LTIR status is not confirmed yet either.

Simple and Elegant?
Signing JVR is very difficult if we play out 2019-20 including the ELC bonuses/overages plus the need to sign Gardiner as a priority and deal with several RFA's during JVR's term.

Toronto Maple Leafs 2018-19
Unfortunately, JVR and Bozak will require more $ to be signed and as PalHal said, there isn't room once the big signings take place. There's also the issue of a potential carryover of $5+ in bonuses from the previous year.

Leafs/St. Louis
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Leivo, Carrick and Fehr hardly scream difference makers in a trade. If trading quantity the Blues would at least want some quality. And then when the players come back from LTIR, what players go on waivers cause the Blues have too many players that are waiver eligible.
Did Parayko have a bad agent or is he really not "cornerstone" good? He signed for 5.5m long term last summer. Hardly cornerstone money.</div></div>
A couple weeks ago Pronman (ESPN/The Athletic) ranked Parayko #29 in the Top 100 NHL players under 25. That's ahead of players like Dougie Hamilton, Trouba, Slavin, Rielly...
$5.5M for a 24 yr old D man isn't bad and 3 of those 5 years are RFA it looks like. His AAV ranks 25th for D men (all ages).
So yes, the package Toronto would provide is way short of what it would take to have the Blues let Parayko go.

Trade JVR...
I'm not seeing Leafs trading JVR to a team that they could meet in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
EDIT: Although to be fair it sounds like they almost did it for Hamonic. But Hamonic would have added immediate value on defense.

This is why Parayko won't be traded. He's a cornerstone for the Blues going forward.

Yep, I thought Demers would have been a good pickup in the summer, better solution than Hainsey in the top 4.

That could very well be the lineup. The only one I am uncertain of is Aaltonen. Babcock may start him with the Marlies and see how Moore and Fehr make out the first 10-20 games.

Suggestions Megathread
Leafs are going to potentially exceed the Performance Bonus limit of 7.5% of Cap, thereby causing the excess to be assigned immediately to their cap hit (as opposed to an end of season calculation and possible accrual to the next year).
It doesn't *appear* that that cap hit component is reflected in CF currently, might it be worth adding that detail?

Leafs Depth Chart Sept 16 2017
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cartler</b></div><div>I'd like you to take a second look att Borgman. He played for my team HV71 last year and he was... well not perfect but not far from it. It was his first year in the Swedish Elite League and not only did he win rookie of the year and the gold, he also made his debute in the national team and would most likely have played in the World championship if it wasn't for Hedman, OEL, Edler and Brodin all coming home to play.
It's a decent chance that he makes the team from start and takes the left side of the third pairing.</div></div>
You're absolutely on point. Borgman has been very impressive so far. Rosen and Dermott are the other contenders for that third pair spot.

Camp Thoughts
After watching the preseason games, it looks like the Leafs may not need Schmidt. Suddenly I see some young depth on defense: Dermott, Rosen, Borgman, Liljegren. The first three look like NHL-calibre players right now. If Marincin stays, he will be in the Press Box most games.
EDIT: As for the lineup adds, I can see Aaltonen as a 4C or backup at 3C. Grundstrom would play much better on his natural LW. I could see him replacing Komarov or even slotting in on Matthews left side in the future.

Leafs opening line up after 2 preseason games
That lineup is looking more and more likely. Leafs might keep Marincin as a #8 reserve, let Borgman get ice time on the Marlies.
I doubt the Leafs want Kapanen in the Press Box but I could see them calling him up if they have an injury or trade.

TML 19/20
Should be fairly close to the actual lineup, although I doubt an LTIR will happen with Marleau, more likely a trade with picks to a cap floor team if he moves.
It would be nice to be able to keep Bozak and Gardiner at those salaries but I just don't see it as very likely. The market will push them up to 5+ and 6+ million is my guess.

Leafs Depth Chart Sept 16 2017
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Doug7004</b></div><div>Hey Bill, so you can now imagine what's going on at camp. Keep an eye on the 3 Swedes. . . Rosen spectacular again today and Dermott paired with Liljegren so maybe down the chart a bit. You're right about RW depth, although it's high end depth, so maybe overload top 6. Depth on the left side beyond top 5 more questionable. . . Some likely would fit better as trade fodder. One of the biggest roster questions has to be if Babcock values what Martin brings over more speed and skill?</div></div>
Right Doug, that's why I put a date on this depth chart. I believe Borgman, Rosen, Dermott, and a few forwards have a chance to rise in the rankings before the first puck drop. But right now they have to prove it to Babcock on the ice.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mapleleaf05</b></div><div>Will be interesting to see who wins that 3rd pairing left D job. I would like to see Dermott or Borgman get a shot.</div></div>
So would I, let's see how they perform in pre-season.

Training camp, leafs fans will you do it ?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>I think you over valued Reinhart. IMO he couldn't make the Leafs and the Leafs really don't need him in with the Marlies. Soshnikov is still concussed and he is waiver exempt.
Now there might be trade for some of the Leafs "excess" forwards to Vegas for a Dman, but not Reinhart.</div></div>
ICYMI - Soshnikov is at training camp, looks like he was cleared medically.
EDIT: Might as well add that I would see Reinhart about 6th or 7th on the Leafs LHD depth chart. Foot speed is where the league is heading, especially the Leafs, and I think that leaves Reinhart as a depth player only, or a marginal 3rd pair guy.

I agree with above comments, I can't see a viable Pens-Leafs trade involving Bozak this season. The only way he would get traded is if Leafs had him in some sort of a package for a top 4 RHD.

2017-18 Marlies Opening Night Roster
It's fun putting together a Marlies lineup right now with all the options and uncertainties, nice job.
A few guesses by me: Loverde is RHD and will likely play higher as a high-scoring vet to anchor a pair. Valiev shoots left, so see him on that side.
Might see Rosen and Borgman switching sides - Rosen has played a lot of time on right side.
Mueller is a vet PPG center, so I see him playing higher even if he isn't a prospect. He could give two of the Marlies top wingers lots of feeds. I would not be surprised to see Brooks playing third line. He is projected to be working on his two way game to aim for a future bottom 6 role on Leafs.
I would not be surprised to see Ben Smith on waiver wire.
