<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Dvorak is a dump. He can't stay healthy....he's a dump. If Montreal wants to invest in him, then take the risk and do so and hope he's healthy by the trade deadline and putting up numbers to support his almost $5M cap hit; otherwise he's a dump until that point.</div></div>
Its almost like there's this magical tool that GM's have at their disposal in Retained Salary
Its pretty complex but essentially a General Manager can Retain up to 50% Salary on Dvoraks final year of his 4.45m bringing it to 2.225m
At which point and again this is all clearly too complex to consider Common Knowledge, But out GM can then pay a 4th round pick for another team to RS 50% again bringing it to 1.125m

Now follow me on this a Faceoff Center if Healthy even in a Career Worst year like Staal or Plekanec or Hanzal ,ext
Teams will still pay a decent package with more quantity then Quality as Faceoff Centers come TDL are always first off the board
Even if MTL give up a 4th to RS they'd be giving up about 40% of the average return those 3 had with a similar career average in Faceoff Stats but Dvorak didnt struggle nearly as bad as they did in those final years before they eventually retired. Dvorak is overpaid and kinda a mediocre 3rd line Center but his ability to take bulk faceoffs will see him continue to get signed even as he ages .
Just look at Glendenning he's constantly finding new homes even as he ages because he's so dominant in the Faceoff Circle.

But yeah i think gambling on Dvorak is worth it as worst case he finishes his season on LTIR and the cap hit aint our problem

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Personally, I think drafting Parascak is the way to go with the Jets pick. It's high risk high reward but putting up 105 points as a rookie in the WHL means you have got some serious talent, I am not sure why he isn't ranked higher but how can you pass up that kind of scoring if it's available to you that late in the draft?!</div></div>

He wont be available , he'll be gone top 15 IMO
But if he or any of the other top 5 D who are ranked ahead of Cole among others are available i'd grab them
But if a team lets Dickinson, Parekh, Levushunov ,Silayev or Buuium is available , you grab them.... but we'd be reaching to say Yakemchuk will be 20th-30th OA
Too many D ranked top 20 this year and the Analyst's who rank Levushunov #2 OA rank Silayev #9 or 10 and the next Analyst thinks the exact opposite.
Its the same thing all along as all the above 5 are ranked top 5 by different analysts while 3 of them are ranked top 3 as well. But all them are also ranked outside top 5 as well

This year in this pick range its best to invest in a Forward actually but if we're looking to Hedge our Bets then going with Any Player who's followed the same developmental path as a player we already drafted who's overachieved, then im taking that guy no matter what his last name is. Its more likely Cole Hutson spends the next 2-3 years making a name for himself and will offer more long term then a later drafted forward in my books unless Cole's gone by then with more D going top 20 then i thought .. then we could land a real stand out forward later in the draft like NYR i believe it was who got Gabe Perrault last year

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drambui</b></div><div>yeah i guess the point i was trying to make was no clear you are right.

point is : drafting someone because they are brothers is not a good reason.</div></div>

Thats your view and i can see you didnt get the point i beat to death over explaining .

If they're Brothers i dont Draft them anymore then i trade for Rem Pitlick cause we drafted his Brother Rhett
I do it because as i stated he's on the same path to the NCAA with similar or better numbers set to walk into a back to back Frozen Four Finalist Team lead by his brother Lane on the blue line.
If you put them side by side Cole is ahead of where Lane was at his age and bigger too

You dumbed it down while skimming through cause it made sense to you to do things that way.
IF you had taken your team to read and absorb the point i over explained then you'd realize is they werent brothers but followed the same Path, i'd be drafting him
Its about the Path taken and the Coach he'll play for working well with our Coach Nicholas who he speaks highly of as Pandolfo's just taking that next step in Coaching and done so at a high level.

If Cole was going to any other NCAA team , im not having this conversation right now as i wouldnt consider him because who's brother he is means F all to me.
Just like i signed Quinn based on Quinn's skillset and chemistry with Tuch really. The fact that those 2 can play together at such a high level with a Jay Obrien, Jack Hughes(Kents son) or Macklin Celebrini as their Center and their teams still a Frozen Four Finalist. If we didnt have Luke Tuch turning Pro i'd still want Quinn as our RW depth in the next 2-3 years at the AHL level is Weak TBH

But i cant change who a persons brother is to force people to see the value of the trade or draft choice or signed player
All i can really do is over explain things and hope people read what they comment on

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dan_the_Man</b></div><div>Montreal Fans TB has Zero let me repeat that ZERO INTEREST IN SAVARD!!</div></div>

Insiders said otherwise and even Hughes said TBL called as part of his Transparency Era commitment to the fans he does it alot
That said mostly i went with TBL cause it seemed like an easy one but it really doesnt matter where he goes
Also if you had Savard blocking shots this year then odds are much lower that Sergachev goes out the year after blocking a Parayko shot.
Shot blocking is a skill thats taught but most times its just easier for contenders to load up on Vet's who can do it to save the Skilled players like Sergachev from blocking the big shots.
Whether its CHI in any of their Cup years, LAK in theirs , PIT in theirs or TBL in theirs this is the standard for every NHL Contender but especially for NHL Champions.
Leaving it for the youth to do , hows that worked out so far as you limp into the playoffs despite Kucherov being in God mode to the point you should be a Presidents Trophy Team.

Whether its Savard or someone less skilled at the same role TBL needs to fill that hole if they want to compete again seriously for a cup
I mean its either Hedman or Cernak or Sergachev out the past few years cause they're doing things role players should be because TBL had little success turning inexperienced D into that.
But like i said its not like we need it to be TBL it just seems glaringly obvious if you're going to compete again you'll have to overload the back end again like your 2 cup runs so your skilled players stop getting beat up so badly before the playoffs even show up .

Really PIT makes as much sense given Letang/Karlssons injury issues playing a Savard to absorb shots will only help them out long term given the age of their team
Big Game Dave would fit into that group easier now that i think about it and Dubus was linked to Savard more then anyone so maybe next trade i take a run at PIT instead in hindsight

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StutzlesNumber1Fan</b></div><div>For any other team besides you and Toronto yes, but for you guys and Toronto that's the price it would take to trade Brady to a rival team. You literally have to overpay.

Those picks sound good man, but it would take an overpayment to move Brady to Toronto or Montreal which would have to be Slaf + 2024 1st etc.</div></div>

Under old Ownership i'd buy it
Under former Minority Owner of MTL that now runs things
Im not so sure given his strengths arent in dealing with Established Players, neither is Staois either.

He's always been big into the development side of things as has Staois
TBH i bet if we offered both Xhekaj's and a 1st next year and a 2nd this year he'd take it.
Not that we'd ever part with a Xhekaj let alone 2 of them, But yes there are deals that dont involve Slaf that i think you Teams Owner and GM would overpay for again.
But if we offered him a shot at Lindstrom and Iginla , those are his type of players and players they can build their core around.

People assume OTT is done making changes but thats unlikely
I predict a big splash at the Draft as its how Ottawa current leadership always did it
That said the big splash could be anyone that will get them picks they covet knowing they'll have to give one up to ARZ and one up to the NHL in the upcoming years.
For OTT they kinda need control of their own destiny again and Draft day deals will do that.

I'd say Norris but no one's giving up quality for an injury prone player at that caphit
Stutzle and Pinto you want to build on as much as Tkachuk but given your draft situation and timeline it would take the fangs out of any run if injuries like Norris's happen again. I mean OTT new owner was stressed over the lost pick for a reason as their plan coming in was stress test what they got and fill the holes via Draft.
Really though Pinto could land a pretty big pot while finding similar value in the Draft capital and likely land you a decent but older player in return
But i dont expect MA to sit idle during the draft and just take it on the chin as these 2 in the OHL were always very active

But again Ideally you try to find value with Norris first
I just dont see who would acquire Martin Hanzal 2.0 in Josh Norris.
That said Danault had a ton of Back injuries into his mid 20s almost and since jumping to MTL had none really
So some team might take a gamble on him if the cost isnt too high but that would defeat the purpose of moving him to acquire draft captial.
I mean maybe LAK might do a PLD swap and see more value in having the cap while he's on LTIR and trying to use him sparingly until the playoffs when they get close.
They're starting to really want him gone over there but im not sure if they're at Josh Norris level panic mode yet.
SJS might pay you for him if you take back Vlasic but the exchange rate wont be favorable i fear lol

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StutzlesNumber1Fan</b></div><div>Slaf and the 2024 first have to be in the deal. The rest can be figured out.</div></div>

Reinbachers the best we can do on that front for this trade replacement offer
Slaf is MTL's only 1st OA in decades and he's playing well as he just broke a Teenage NHL record set 40+ years ago

I'd counter with 5th or 6th OA , Beck,Struble and a 10th to 15th OA pick in this years draft MTL will acquire.
It'd give OTT the 5th OA , 7th OA and lets say 13th OA in this draft and a way to cause havoc in the top 15, or Lidstrom, Tij and grab a D later at 13th
They could for example draft a Iginla 5th OA ahead of projections and take a D at 7th and its likely a quality forward will fall in a draft with so many strong top 15 options for Defensmen.
They could still end up with an Eiserman, Catton, Buuium , Parekh or Dickinson who fall outside projections as a result of OTT moves

MTL would have to find a trading partner in that 10th to 15th OA range looking for D though
If its me i'd be talking to PHI about Matheson or Guhle in a deal for their 12th OA pick

In the end MTL gives up a buttload but none of the players involved are from weak depth pools and we have other options in their timelines
So we'd be giving up a lot of future's to a Rival but would be getting arguably their most valuable player before this draft anyways. If they got lets say Lidstrom,Iginla and Dickison they'd be stacked

MTL's motivation ?
Tkachuk-Suzuki-Roy
Caufield-Dach-Slafkovsky

Until Mesar is ready then he'll be joining Slafkovsky's line replacing Dach as Mesar is Slaf's playmaker and best friend so they'll likely click when he turns pro just like they did at Camps thus far.
Either way thats a top 6 with Size , Skill and Goal Scoring with a 3rd line who can provide support both 5v5 and on special teams.
Plus with Power Center Florian Xhekaj another season away from being done with Junior he's far ahead of where his brother was at this age especially given he just jumped to Center 40 games ago.

MTL suddenly looks like a Darkhorse next year and a threat more so each year after.
That said MTL could just as easily keep their pick and acquire a top 15 pick for themselves delaying the build another year or so but getting an Iginla and possibly a Eiserman or Helenus is as tempting
