Cap Compliant
There’s no chance a rebuilding team goes into the season with a 20 man roster. You don’t do that with young players as you’ll burn them out and they need competition to help them develop.
That being said, DeSmith is likely flipped somewhere else as there’s no need for him in Montreal. Or at very least 1 of the 3 goalies will be moved but he’s the most likely. & with Price being on LTIR they’ll technically be able to use $10.5M of space over the cap if needed, so there really was no issue ever of them being cap compliant or not

Both fit what we need short term</div></div>
Well, Elvis fits the window and Mtl is probably off his 10 team and he is Austrian(which might help Reinbacher a tad). I see a fit there. Lankinen might be a target for contenders though, a possible bidding war which I'm afraid of getting into.

Retaining Salary on Nylander at the TDL brings him to 3.45m i think?
We can deffinately get something good for him as a rental.
If we pay someone else to RS a 1st and 2nd round pick package will be easy to get.
I mean VGK or NYR or FLA for example if they can get Nylander at the TDL from MTL with a 2nd team RS bringing the cap to 1.725m
I mean is it worth the gamble given CGY is rebuilding and its unprotected? Not Really ,no
But we get rid of Dvorak without RS for the extra year .
Is that worth giving up a possible top 5 pick ? Not really but we can always just top 10 protect it
TML still gets likely a 10th-20th OA pick an upgrade on the Late 1st and 2nd round picks they'd get at the TDL
Overall though its better for all involved to just deal with their own problems at the TDL lol</div></div>
Nylander at 50% retained would bring back the biggest deadline return in a super long time.

The Primeau Situation
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>I'd swap for Elvis, i know his issue
You can literally see his Decline after all his Shot Blockers went and they switched to more Offensive Dmen.
They went from Werenksi,S.Jones, D.Savard, R.Murray, A.Peeke, M.Nutivara and V.Gavrikov to losing Jones , Savard Murray and Nutivara basically overnight.
They didnt replace them either it was Jake Bean, Nick Blankenburg, Gabe Carlsson, Gavin Beyruther, and the only 2 real replacement in Boqvist
He lost all his Shot blocking experienced D with Size and got a cluster F**K Dcore played in front of him until this past off season when CBJ made some pretty good moves</div></div>
and a swap like that would work well with the time frame. If he and his shot blockers continue last year's pace and they want a cheap goalie, in a perfect scenario that's what happens. They'll probably just go for a Hart though.

If we do it early in Camp when like 60% of the league puts their players through on Waivers, i think we're fine.
We can call him back up after for 9 games i think before he requires waivers again if something like Allen gets hurt.
If Allens out long term i think Primeau stays in a tandem with Monty and Allen gets moved ,put on LTIR or waived
Primeau's not as far off as most people think
Waivers is only an issue if we miss that window.
That said im almost hoping Allen gets injured in camp again
Primeau i think takes full advantage of playing Tandem with Montembault who now has Carey Price working with him as his Trainor and will likely help Primeau too.
Allen has become Kent Hughes version of Karl Alzner. Which hurts cause as a NBer i was this close to seeing Allen win a cup with MTL a dream i had for years... but that was with Price as #1.
Without Price we've had Allen go from never on LTIR before to always on LTIR since.(not an exaggeration sadly)</div></div>
well said. Hughes put himself here sadly, Allen contract not looking like his others. At least it's not Murray or Merzlikens

The Primeau Situation
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>Progress towards the NHL should look something like Stuart Skinner:
There's no Formula for Goalie development , its why people like Samsonov,Vanacek,Blackwood, ext arent qualified
Its why Lehner, Ullmarks ,and Bobrovsky are let go or traded
Primeau showed consistency and played well in the AHL given the Dcore he had
He went to a ECF game 7 after MTL pilleged most of the AHL roster making them ineligible.
I mean Norlinder had to play 4th line Center until i believe it was Heineman showed up
They got there with ECHL guys and Condotta from NCAA, Heineman from Europe and i believe Roy from QMJHL.
Primeau stood on his head stealing games.
Last year MTL made a lot of their players ineligible for the Playoffs again leaving their Center depth obliterated and took their top RD Barron.
He still had a pretty good showing but AHL is stupid and has a Best of 3 in first round , Best of 5 in second round and best of 7 in third and fourth rounds.
So a bad start in the first round can put even a good Goalie out of the playoffs.
I like his progress given the back ups we gave him and how crowded the net was.
Dobes is the first Goalie on his level he's played with and this will be the first time he'll have support like NHL goalies have.
Not saying he's Carey's replacement but there's no reason he cant be our Huet</div></div>
exactly. He'll be a fine backup if he's given confidence. He needs time, but the problem is waivers.

But new injuries isnt why we've been at the bottom persay From our SCF roster we had what like 5 guys left after just 2 years removed?
Bad GM moves hurt us with MB and had he been english Molson as President woulda fired him before he signed Gally and Petry to those deal.
We woulda with kept them at a more reasonable term or lost them creating space for our youth.
Gross incompetence and ignoring it instead of firing him as soon as you realized you werent re-hiring him.
All because they had to have the best Bilingual option not just the Best Option.</div></div>
fortunately we all have opinions and I do enjoy yours though i dont agree with them/ Take care

Easier to Waive Pitlick as benching him the AHL isnt a big deal.
We can buyout Armia for another couple days but after that we're boned.
Our best chance is finding a way to dump Hoffman</div></div>
Slaf most likely making the team this year. He already got a taste of the NHL and he knows what to expect, he’s gonna be more ready. Plus the training he did will help like crazy

This is a huge overpay for 2 under preforming players. Goodrow has less value than Monahan due to the difference in their contracts Goodrow and a 1st for Monahan is fair. Laf gets a mid 1st IMO (around 11-20 OVA) but that's it. The deal should be adjusted to Monahan + Habs 2024 1st top 10 protected for Goodrow + Laf + Rags 2024 1st (unprotected)

Toronto can pay for retention not the Canes. Additionally, the Canes couldn’t do that if they wanted without moving out another player.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>Really , they gave up 1 good piece thats far lesser of a player then Nylander.
Im a bit confused here, We got lots of Jack Drury types in MTL ours currently is RHP a huge fan favorite With more Goals in 30 games then Drury will get in the next few years.
We value RHP at maybe a 3rd round pick</div></div>
