If Severson makes them a lot better, then giving up to guys that aren't close to contributing is a lot easier to accept.

Amirov, Niemela, and a 1st is a lot of value.
I would imagine one of Robertson/Amirov, a 1st, and some loose change could get it done.</div></div>
But this makes them a lot better for the next two years and those two aren't close to playing in the NHL.

I know, Bob Murray has said he has no intentions of moving him but if they were interested in blowing it up, they could definitely get a massive haul.

Marleau for Demers
His signing bonus is paid in two installments. Half on July 1st and the other half on December 1st. So Arizona would actually have to pay him 2.75 million.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brenfox31</b></div><div>I agree he's a great DFD and I'm willing to say that this is a good idea for the Leafs, I just question whether it is THE BEST idea for the leafs. They could try to get a RHD (which isn't too big a deal, but I prefer it considering our top 5 would all be LH). However, I see your point and I'd say this deal or a similar one is definitely a good idea if we wanna compete now and in the future because his contract is not too bad considering we are getting rid of Zaitzev.
That being said, we would have to sign him to a very similar deal to the one he is on, and IDK if he'd be willing to. We might lose him before next season, and then I question whether moving a long-term piece in Zaitzev (plus two futures) is worth it. I'd much rather get someone with term on a similar cap hit - maybe someone like Tanev (but hopefully less injured)</div></div>
He's got a two year extension that kicks in after this year at 5 million.

I added Zaitsev to get rid of his contract, that's why I gave up so many assets.

He's 2/4/ 6 points and minus three. Hainsey 3/8/ 11 points plus 15. This fascination with other teams bottom end Dmen just because they are RHD is nonsensical.</div></div>
Hainsey is slow and bad at defense, TVR is not. He plays the exact same role as Hainsey on the penalty kill and he's definitely an improvement 5v5.

First of all it's Brett Pesce and second the Leafs need a decent top pairing d-man so Hainsey isn't playing top pairing minutes. Manson has good possession stats and he's got more offense to his game than Pesce. He's probably one of the cheapest top pair options out there.

IMO Dermot might go to right side this year.</div></div>
Well it could be Rielly that plays the right but, what I'm trying to say is that when paired together over their careers, Rielly and Gardiner have posted elite possession numbers.

Nylander with bridge, Perf Bonuses paid
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jp_harvey</b></div><div>He wanted big money and settled for a bridge deal. He was reportedly asking for Tarasenko's money/contract as starter (8x7.5M$). TBL has got him for 3 years of cup contenter with him being paid 4.766M instead of 3M$+ more a year. Next, they'll pay him a little less than 2M$ more a year that he was previousky asking (he's now a 100pts scorer!), which is a HUGE win for an organisation. If you can't understand that, I don't think you should comment in here anymore since you clearly lack in hockey management knowledge. Don't mean to be rude, here, it's just the truth.</div></div>
You just said that it was a good thing that they have to pay him $2m more than he was asking. \sure it allowed them to be a contender in the short-term but, in the long-term it doesn't benefit them.

Nylander with bridge, Perf Bonuses paid
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jp_harvey</b></div><div>I mean look at how Stevie Y dealth with the Kucherov situation...a repeat of it with Nylander would be the PERFECT scenario for TOR. You give him 3 years and resign him long term after the second year. If he keeps up that level of play, he might get 7-8 years at 8-8.5M$ then. Because signing him long term NOW, he shouldn't get more than 6-6.25M$ per for 6-7 years. The Kucherov route is a win-win for both sides.</div></div>
It didn't go perfectly. Tampa could've signed Kucherov for something like $6m AAV and we'd all be sitting here thinking it was a steal but, now Tampa has to pay him an extra 3.5 million.
