Counter-argument: Neither Evans nor a 2nd rd pick really moves the needle to acquire bigger fish. So making "minor" improvements using those assets is exactly what you should be using them for.</div></div>
A 2nd definitely moves the needle in acquiring a bigger piece wtf are ypu talking about. Its also a 2nd for a likely bad team so it could be a top 40 pick.
And speaking of moving the needle you are vastly overatting roy. His career high in goals is 15 and points is 39. At 27 thats his ceiling.
His career high in non powerplay points is 34. Evans is 29. Evans has significantly better defensive metrics and faceoff stats. Many gms if building a team would take jake at 1.7 over nicolas at 3

Roy was instrumental for Vegas in their playoff runs with his physical play, and his ability to play anywhere in the lineup.
I really don't see why Habs wouldn't want to upgrade Evans for N.Roy... Very much a no brainer imo... N.Roy also plays the wing, so there's a ton of flexibilty too if MTL have other centers they want to use (Beck) or acquire (bring back Monahan?).</div></div>
Because you dont waste assets on minor moves. Hes not a material improvement on evans.

Habs pass on both deals.
They arent trading harris for just a worse LD. He needs waivers as well so wtf is the point.
Habs are not retaining 2+ milkion for multipke years + giving up picks for a ahler.

keeping jake jarvy necas no kk skjei pesce
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mskiko</b></div><div>Totally agree, on top of this being my prediction on how this off season will turn out, it also highlights the weaknesses that can develop. The main ones being a 2c behind Aho (will Jarvis or Necas eventually move to center or will we need to acquire one?), and RD once Burns retires and Pesce walks. Having Morrow is great but after next season I can see RD and C being an issue.</div></div>
Definitely concerning. Unfortunately kk obviously didnt take care of that 2c issue and necas has kinda passed that point in his career to move him there so it defaults to jarvis which makes for a very small top 2 centres.
It wouldn't shock me if they move necas and then try and find a different solution at C. You kinda have to do that or roll the dice again with kk and see if the play he had to start the year can be replicated.

keeping jake jarvy necas no kk skjei pesce
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mskiko</b></div><div>I definitely agree with you that this team is worse but it will be a transition year in which we should be able to be competitive unless things go extremely bad. Orlov is still playing very well and we aren't going to commit long term money to a 2LD with Nikishin coming over soon although I'd love to somehow keep Skjei. Also agree on money and term regarding Martinook and Noesen, just wanted to retain them and not underpay on the ACGM.
Moving Fast to retain 1 of Pesce or Skjei is definitely a scenario that could happen this off season as well.</div></div>
I think one thing to keep in mind looking at that is slavin burns and orlov all only have 1 year. You let pesce and skjei walk you are at risk of losong basically your top 5 in 2 offseasons.
Burns also will be 40 next summer and orlov 34. They might not be the guys they are today by then.
Having one pesce and skjei back atleast helps stabalize that situation.

keeping jake jarvy necas no kk skjei pesce
Thats a worse team than this year for sure.
Your asking slavin and burns to do a lot of heavy lifting there as thats a pretty weak dcore.
I get that canes fans like chatfield but its easy to look good in a 15 min a night heavily shletered role. Giving him that kind of money at the expense of others like skjei or pesce is a terrible idea especially when aho is also a depth guy and morrow is a major question mark.
If you want to keep martinook offer him less maybe with a extra year. 3x1.5. You cant pay someone like him 2.5. Same with noesen.
You do that and move fast and you can likely keep one of pesce or skjei which makes way more sense.

I cpuld see a team taking a stab if the canes take back a shorter term deadweight back (who they could buyout).
One thing kk does have going for him is its a 1/3 buyout for a while still so theoretically ypu could try a coupke seasons then buyout at 1/3 if it doesnt work

JT waives -fix team now
A) no chance tavares waives he has a full nmc
B) ypu will have to pay more than liljegren to get rid of him full pop. Again full nmc so even if he agrees to waive he gets to choose where. No leverage and hes is barely a 60 point place players getting premium icetime with marner and nylander. Without them his a slow defensively garbage 40-50 point centre that should be playing wing. With the 7th highest cap hit right now.
That conversation starts with cowan

Nurse has been bad at defense most of his career as well only difference is hes being paid to be a 95 percentile dman #1 dman when hes not.
