do one without Kap for Pesce that would be the more likely of the deals that Carolina accepts and there still money left very nice job.

Philly gm would have choice words if offered that lol. Either trade grossly over values zaitsev. Hes a plug. Worth a 3rd alone. Maximum

The value of a top pairing D is higher than a winger... who score alot playing with Marner & Tavy!
For cap purposes I would suggest Nylander for Pesce one on one.
Nylander will have a 7M salary for the next 7 year (more affortable than 10M this season)</div></div>
Pesce is not a top-pairing defenseman.

Yep. SO high, in fact, that they went out and acquired Dougie Hamilton last summer in order to push Pesce down the depth-chart.

Why would the Canes NOT do Pesce for Kapanen, they need scoring and Kapanen can provide that...do some research before commenting.

I’ll give 5 starts for the description. Like everyone above, I don’t see Gardiner fitting in. Dermott should be ok to take over his minutes and then one of Sandin, Rosen, Borgman, or cheap UFA vet can fill the third pairing LD. Maybe...maybe there’s a 5% chance Gardiner stays if they offload a contract like Zaitsev. But I think he’ll get $6m + in free agency elsewhere.
Assuming they don’t make a trade deadline add for a RD with term, I think they’ll dip into free agency to find a Hainsey replacement...vet guy that they can get for 1-2 years under $3m. Myers could be interesting depending on what his ask is. Methot would be a nice fit on that left side but will probably be too expensive. I’d like to see them give Holl some regular playing time this year to see if he can be relied on for 3rd pairing minutes to know if he’s an internal option.
I like Brown too but I think the first three lines are so potent (and expensive) that there’s no reason to have anyone making more than $1m on the fourth line. I like Par Lindholm over Gauthier but only it he wants to re-sign under a mil.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blackmore23</b></div><div>Hahaha again <a href="/users/Jamiepo" target="_blank">@Jamiepo</a> , trying to make something work xD. Matthews and marner will no way in hell take 75% of what they are worth, guarantee. I find Marner contract is fair, it's Matthews contract that puzzles people. I think 11.5 is the slowest it will go, I can possibly see him get upwards to 13.
On D, we need a veteran regardless. I don't have much confidence in Rosen, Liljegren and possibly Sandin or Marincin. I believe they have something to show, but they need to gradually get the feel to play in the NHL.</div></div>
Here are the players we are depending on, marincin Borgman sandin liljegren and Rosen of the 5 we need two to be nhl good. Rosen would have been a leaf this season if not for dermott, marincin has looked good this season and Borgman already has nhl experience. So filling the bottom pair shouldn’t be an issue but you may want a vet guy. The hopeful part is one of sandin or liljegren being nhl good.

No magic needed gardiner walks.. you gave him a pay cut and are still about 1.5m short. We will be depending on Rosen, liljegren and possibly sandin making the team next season. Even Marincin has looked competent this year. If not we will need to sign a cheap vet. I doubt Dubas is going to pull any rabbit out of a hat and get Matthews and marner to take 75% of what they are worth.

Let Gardiner go and sign a cheap vet defenseman to bridge to the young guys. It barely fits, but then Marleau will be done after 1 year
Still think Matthews gets more, but I know that is not a universal opinion

Youre absolutely correct but they could both easily be busts at the nhl level you never know, id rather have too many good players in 3-5 years then players that didnt work out

Hudon scored at a pace of 34 points last year, Kapanen scored at a pace of 19 pts. Kapanen broke out this year playing with Matthews while Nylander wasn't playing, Hudon would put up points playing with Matthews too. Yes, Kapanen is better than Hudon but I dont think Kapanen is a special player. Hudon would help replace Kapanens spot on Forward and Petry would solve TOR's defensive issues, it's a no brainer for Toronto.

Well you get 4 stars for not trading marleau and actually moving the right two contracts it would take to keep gardiner.
Now for the negative... you have Lilly with gardiner.... they both finish the season -136....

GM's' don't pay a premium for a player that's not producing because "he's not in the right situation". Premium players produce no matter what, that's why they're paid a premium.</div></div>
So what is the premium side of Pominville? What rated him Brassard plus a 1st? I'd rather have Brassard than Pominville at the same cap hit straight up, ZERO reason to add from Pit side. Brassard for Pominville @50% + 1st is more like it, maybe not even then. Pominville is a 36 year old slug. Replacing Brassard with Pominville on the ice instantly makes the Pens worse.

(MTL / VGK) - Tatar, Suzuki, 2019 2nd for Pacioretty
Bergevin came in with a 24 years old Max Pacioretty, 23 years old PK Subban, 25 years old Carey Price, and a 3rd overall pick. Now 6 years later, this.
I mean, it's a decent return for Pacioretty, and this means rebuild. But just the fact that he wasted all that talent hurts so much. Will never forgive the Subban and Sergachev trades.
