Todays intra squad game
I understand that the CHL protects their 19 yo players from going in the AHL to keep the level of play higher. But for some players, like Beck who plays exactly the AHL style, it seems to impeed their progression towards pro level. Beck has nothing else to prove at junior level.
Also really like your take on Engstrom. Too many people sleeping on him. Already playing against men, as smart as they come. Really liked him in the last juniors for Sweden.

The plan
Your thought process is flawless IMO. That plan would acheive short term progression without a doubt.
I wonder, though, what salary both Konecny and Pionk will ask in 2 years with the new salary cap. They might want more than 8mil.
In that scenario, either you pay them what they want or you let them walk.
Barron, Harris and 2 firsts for 2 years of Konecny and Pionk is catastrophic. A risk to evaluate.

Good luck getting in the playoffs with that roster !
Also, Matheson is staying home at least until the end of his current contract, no doubt.

I think Hughes is high on Michkov.
At the combine press conference, he said they would pick for the most talent.
Would also fit the rumors he's going for SJ's 4th OA if he's afraid they will take him. Columbus will go for a center, so no danger there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brady_t12</b></div><div>Yep. Zero chance it's costing a late first. Mantha's possession numbers are good. His finishing is where he struggled. Didn't help he spent half the season on the fourth line or scratched rather than next to Strome where he should have been all season. Thanks Lavi for tanking his value and confidence.</div></div>
The fact is, to get value back, WAS must convince anybody he's not a dump.
Just like you said, I also think he still got it. He never played for a real contender and I believe he can play that hard playoff style, kind of like Sam Bennett.
So, if he's a playoff asset, why would WAS trade him? They need playoff assets now. Maybe they want to do something better with his cap? Then, it's the definition of a dump.
But fair enough, a late first might be a bit much. I was going for the price paid the last 3 or 4 times this happened.

A 2024 3rd is not enough to get rid of Mantha's cap. Would probably cost something like a late 1st, like it did for Monahan, Marleau and others.
I think the better option for WAS is a hockey trade, 1v1.
Dvorak for Mantha ?

Helle to LA sounds great.
Pretty sure Dubois, Scheifele and Helle are traded with extensions in place. Nobody's gonna trade for them if they aren't sure to get more than 1 season.
In that case, Vilardi + for him would make sense imo.

Who is the best Center that could be traded for with this package
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Epic_Ninja_Dude</b></div><div>The Tkahcuk deal is a perfect example of why those trades don’t happen. Calgary looked like they got a steal of a deal swapping Tkachuk for Huberdeau while also getting Weegar, Schwindt, and a 1st. 1 year later and Florida wins the deal by a mile after Huberdeau fell off a cliff. But Calgary could still win the deal if Huberdeau bounces back next year. You have no clue if a guy is truly a superstar or if he’s just putting up numbers because of the guys around him, chemistry, coaching, etc.</div></div>
Being from Montreal, I immediately think of the Weber-Subban trade. Weber's health problems combined with Subban's nomination for the Norris nearly cost Bergevin his job. I retrospect though, MTL won the trade by quite a margin.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bcooke</b></div><div>I could see Newhook being involved for the Lindholm or some other young guys with 1C potential. Would depend on if Newhook was an add to 3 firsts, Roslovic, and a prospect or if he could be swapped for one of the firsts or Roslovic. A guy like Lindholm would solve the Avs 2C position for the next 8-9 years and make Newhook expendable IMO.</div></div>
I think Lindholm with an extension already dealt before trade doesn't brink back more than Newhook, COL's 2023 1st (27 OA) and another fine prospect.
He's 28, has an average of 0.78 ppg after his ELC and is not known for playoffs heroics. I don't think this is ''3x 1st ++'' matter.
Also, I would be prudent with extending him for more than 6 years. 7,5M AAV until 37 is quite risky IMO.

I can see Lindholm being traded this off-season.
That would mean CAL is going into a 1-2 year retool to go with new core of Kadri, Hubby, Mangiapane (prob), Toffoli (maybe?) and Weegar.
Thus I beleive they would want an NHL ready young center coming back. Does Newhook fit?

Habs Offseason
I don't understand why would two building teams swap young major core pieces before they get at full potential. These kind of trades don't happen because GMs get fired if it doesn't work out as planed.
Imagine if Cooley becomes a 90 pts playmaker until he's 34 while Caufield has health issues and never hit more than 30 goals? Arizona GM has his car bombed.
Or inversely, Caufield has multiple 50 goals seasons and helps Arizona push in the playoffs while Cooley never develops because of a couple bad plays that haunt him and destroy his confidence; get low-value traded later? Montreal GM gets thrown in the river head first.
Too much risk either way.
My two cents anyway

I would still do the trade if I'm MTL.
If both play their best, I think they bring similar return at TDL half-retained. But Edmunston's health is a risk right now, meaning he has probably less chance to have a great season.

Agreed, there is no reason for MTL and ANA to trade major core pieces when said assets aren't at full potential yet.
What are your thoughts on McTavish's ceiling ? ppg? 100+ pts?

Serious question to OP :
What does Nylander have that made you think OTT would want to part ways with their newly long-term signed captain ? And add more to TOR ?
I mean, I understand you would want Tkachuk, but either you're trolling EA style or you're completely unaware of Tkachuk's value to OTT.

Roy will need top 6 minutes and role to succeed.
Also, so many people are sleeping on Engstrom. The guy already plays a pro game against pro players. All he needs to learn is learnable.
Hope he stays focused and progress, he could be solid top 4 in 4-5 years.

I don't know how Trotz will do it. Seems like NAS will have great depth for a long time, but I think the lack of top end offense will prohibit them from going deeper in the playoffs.
Maybe making a splash trade would be better than moving minor parts ? I know that's not how Poile did business, but maybe Trotz does it differently?

Each trades are not bad per say, but 7 of them? Involving at least 10 roster players and 17 draft picks?
You seem to have gone for realism, and I highly doubt Trotz will be that much active in his 1st offseason. I might be wrong though.
You are right Smashville roster needs to freshen up ASAP.
