Claude Giroux
Damn, goes to show how other teams can give better pieces than the Avs and be hurt less. Compher & Jost can't live up to Nino but we can give up a Suzuki-level prospect. It's gonna be a bidding war, if it's not already. That veteranship on that young roster too.

This is true, I think Sakic may be able to talk Giroux into a 2-3 year deal at 6.5 cap hit or so. I know it's low but if anyone has that kind of magic, it's Joe. Which I think is nice growth period for Newhook. I would prefer that level of veteranship + skill with that term to Miller.
But at the same time, the more contracts that end when Mack needs to be re-signed the better. Newhook could only need another year before he's a consistently solid 2C. Miller is just as complementary as Giroux in terms of where you'd need him in the Top 6 at any given time.

Read the Avs are kicking tires on Miller. Likely giving up one of Jost/Compher, one of Barron/Helleson, a 2023 1st and possibly a 2023 2nd/20223rd. If it fits the criteria, probably have a deal. If not, yeah probably off to NYR then.

To add to this, I think Burakovsky is more valuable too. I'd be happy to re-sign him for 6-6.5 too.

Fair, I would be lead to assume that Sakic would be trying re-sign Giroux if Barron or Helleson go. I could see him being a cheaper, shorter term option at 2C for the Avs than Kadri and to me would look like a nice transition piece until Newhook is a more matured, more filled-out 2C option.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>A 2nd wouldn't be enough for NYI to part with Mayfield. Remember that he is very useful for their chances of having a good run next year too, so they'd need to be convinced to move him. They could easily fetch a 2nd+ for him at next years deadline as well if they wanted to move him then.
Gilbert is an AHL Dman who NYI can claim on waivers in October. At best he'll top out as a 3rd pairing Dman but that's not really much of a return at the deadline for a player who will be highly coveted with a great contract.</div></div>
Fair enough, you okay waiting until 2024 for the 1st?

Miner is on the early end of what could be a pretty steady development. Just not sure if he's closer to Annunen or Werner in terms of promising young drafted Avs goalies. Time will tell. But otherwise yeah. All on Justice right now.

Another version of my Avs TDL ideas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>As you said yourself in the description he has a great contract for two years and is a dependable middle pairing shutdown RHD. If he's moved (big if) then he'd likely warrant something close to or approaching the return that Savard got last year. His contract would be appealing to a lot of teams, and he has a lot of playoff experience the last two years as well.</div></div>
That one was TBL 1st & 3rd for Savard & 4th, What about keeping in here Gilbert, a 2nd & 5th? Maybe the Avs have a 6th or 7th coming back? I definitely know his appeal which is why having him for the next couple playoff runs would be unreal. I've just heard mixed things of value.
Btw Gilbert is a 26 yr old physical defensive Dman who looks pretty near NHL-ready, continuing development in the A vs fighting the veterans Murray, J.Johnson and MacDermid for ice time and is on an RFA contract. So someone I do think could grow into a similar role as Mayfield as the isles #PainForShane this year. So I feel like he'd be a valuable piece in a trade like this.

I agree, my biggest anxiety is being too crippled in the draft in the future to build around what will be the middle and end years of Mack's next contract. That being said, signing college UFAs can compensate for that especially when you can reel them in with a "so you know we just won a cup right?" type of pitch. So I get it.

If we're trading picks that far ahead, I'd want someone with maybe another year of term or a bit of confidence they'll re-sign. Already iffy trading the 2023 1st for a rental this year but also, the time IS now.

Ready to get my TDL ideas torn to bits again love yall
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>Why would the islanders make that trade?</div></div>
Best guess is:
1. Roster player to replace Mayfield's spot.
2. an RFA RHD who I was wondering if Jordan Gross (<em>same age RHD but a point per game in the AHL which could translate in the coming years</em>) was a better choice but that contract is UFA and my guess was a guaranteed hold in the RFA contract was better.
3. The 3rd round pick is a slightly lower than average value for a stay at home, physical, mid-pairing Dman, but since they already have the Avs 2nd, I was hoping a roster player and some type of young but useful player in the same vein of the player they're trading away who has a resume that says they can challenge for a roster spot as soon as next training camp or be a main callup would help this slide.
EDIT - forgot some words
2nd EDIT - would replace McKeown with Gilbert who projects to be similar to Mayfield

I like the idea of adding Carpenter, probably would be a good move since I see one of Jost or Compher moving in a deal to acquire a Giroux or something. Would be nice to have another bottom 6er. Does he kill penalties decently?

Love the Miller trade
I would pick between the Stastny and Toffoli trade. That bang for the buck on Tyler Foli (as Don would call him) would be unreal, I'm happy forking that up, If it would cost Newhook though, I'll do the Stastny trade instead. Always love the idea of him coming back.

If this trade is made now or at the deadline then Compher would need to go the other way for cap purposes.</div></div>
That makes sense, doing my own ACGM to see how it looks with my own desires (getting one of Mayfield, Braun or Manson) fits cap wise. I think I put Garland on 2L because that's what I keep hearing where Giroux would fit amidst all the talk about the Avs being interested in him.

Garland
I think Garland and Nichushkin would likely change spots in the lineup here. Call me a homer but I'd prefer to remove one of Compher, Helleson or the 1st. I'm happy giving up Helleson, a first and third for Garland's prime years on a contract like this. He can come in when one of Kadri or Bura leave (that's the outcome I see.)
If Canucks really need more than that, maybe we can add Jost to this or maybe just move on and Nucks can find a buyer for that price.
Compher is such a beauty middle 6 forward and can slot into all special teams when need be. Someone you really want to keep for a deep playoff run.

Happened vs San Jose, happened vs Dallas. He knows how to beat the Avs into the 3rd round. Maybe if he's on our side for once, he could bring us to the 3rd round. I also would prefer Pavelski over Giroux.

Is there a comparable trade like that Giroux one you had in mind when making this that was successful to a team?
Giving up someone vital to our special teams / solid middle 6 player, a 2nd round pick in Behrens and two 1sts as Kaut was 16th ovr for a rental (not even another year) is too steep for my comfort and if that's what it takes, I'm good. Love Giroux, excellent player, great dude. I'd rather the Avs keep versatile Compher and 3 pieces that will be pretty important once Mack's raise fills our future cap space.
