Jack Johnson doesn't get claimed.
Flames don't add an extra first to the the deal.
Columbus has no reason to help the Penguins with that trade.

We’re not giving Bennett OR our 1st for Murray when we could sign Lehner, Markstrom, Holtby, or Talbot for cheaper, what makes you think we’d give up both?

Why would we give up Bennett and a 1st when we could just sign a better goalie than Andersen in free agency

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blow_it_up</b></div><div>That's cgy deal is just bad for mtl. You're gutting half your roster for 2 players, 2 very good players, but why not keep the assets you're giving up and hope one of them turns into a difference maker? Mtl isn't far off from being competitive again this deal is a huge step in the wrong direction. Are you really comfortable putting Suzuki in as your top line centre in year 2? As for Cgy, that's a massive influx of players on a team that doesn't need a complete overhaul and I don't think any of those players are the solution to our problems. Just a weird and unnecessary deal all around</div></div>
Blow it up is saying don’t blow it up. Lmao 😆

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blow_it_up</b></div><div>We barely made the playoffs this year with them and have missed before with them, maybe we don't trade both but one definitely has to go at this point. Johnny Gaudreau is 27 and on the last year of his contract this year, at this point I'd trade him while he's still our best asset and try to build around the other talent we have.</div></div>
6 years with Gaudreau and Monahan as core players. Missed playoffs twice. Went beyond Round 1 once (and got smoked by ANA). Quick exits twice. It's time to move on and try a new approach. Both guys are super talented, and CGY and both players will benefit greatly from fresh starts.
+ Gaudreau has 2 full seasons remaining on his contract, which is very valuable. Monahan has 3 full seasons remaining. Both on great cap hits for what they're worth.

so gaining assets and being out instantly is worse than keeping them not upgrading at all and being out in the 1st round instantly... noted. i would agree with you if they failed this year due to the circumstances but they havent been close to a contender once in the playoffs.... maybe its not a terrible idea to take a step back and make a few changes with the current players. people act like Monahan is a 80 point center... hes an average defensive center who scores 65 points or less a year..... thats not impossible to replace

Agreed. He's been the flames best D man in the play in/ playoffs and I dont think its been close.
He isn't going anywhere. That contract is looking amazing.

Flames need a lot more. Love how everyone assumes Gaudreau is going to sign at a certain place and that everyone then values a perennial elite player at 2 years is worth next to nothing. A lot can happen in 2 years and value for a player like gaudreau is going to be high regardless of how many years he has left

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Whiteboy547</b></div><div>For sure, I just thought given Detroit's rebuild they could maximize his value now especially since his contract is up next year.</div></div>
As Seider53 said he is Detroit's most talented player and he is happy in Detroit so they don't need to trade him. A lot of people don't think he has done anything to make him worth much and that is fine because Detroit isn't trying to trade him. But he still is Detroit's most talented player and it won't be cheap to pry him out of Detroit.

Honestly, as arguably the best player on Detroit (man I wish that meant more) its a price that you wouldn't want to pay. It would have to be enough of an overpayment that no GM could say no, and at that point why wouldn't Calgary aim for someone cheaper?

On the Jackets trade, throw in Kylington and we throw in a third rounder and a prospect and that deal would do it.

Switch hartnell with clarkson and you might have a deal. The only reason for Columbus to move hartnell is cap space, he is still producing pretty good numbers.
