Canes Flames fans thoughts
I can't see the flames packaging 2 good players for that kind of return, the value isn't all that close. I like Montour, I like the 8th OA but mittelstadt has way too many question marks around him and Johansson would be another depth winger we could live without.

Different Approach
If Calgary's not trading Bennett for Murray we're definitely not trading Backlund. We already have thin centre depth, moving Backlund would leave a massive hole up the middle. Please stop with the Murray trades, there's no fit here

CGY Trade
I just don't see it with Murray, maybe it's because I'm a flames fan and don't see him much but he always seems to be hurt or getting blown out. With the amount of FA goalies this off season is be way more comfortable going after one of them than giving up assets for Murray. Honestly our goaltending this season really wasn't a problem, scoring goals on the other hand...

Flames offseason
I must be missing why everyone is infatuated with Matt Murray. Like I get it he's won 2 cups but he's been out played by Jarry consistently not to mention the guy is made of glass, I'm not paying a first to have Rittich be the starter when he inevitably gets concussed.

I mean Poehling has struggled quite a bit, I doubt he even cracks the starting roster he's basically Janko 2.0 at this point. I think I'd pass there are better deals for Gaudreau out there, I'm not sure mtl has the right pieces unless they're giving up guys like Suzuki which they obviously won't

What should the habs remove from this deal tho?[/quote]
First off you can take Lindholm out of the deal, he's not being moved. Any deal here would be strictly for Gaudreau and some complementary pieces, adding another top 6 forward from Calgary s perspective would be counter productive. Calgary's in win now mode so forget Caufield he's way too far away from being a full time nhler, Drouin would fit but I'm not sure he's better than other internal options plus he's had his health issues, and unless Poehling magically develops into a #2 centre over the next 2-3 years he's definitely a redundant player in Calgary. I'm just not sure there's a fit here, maybe something around Domi + but I'm not sure.

That's cgy deal is just bad for mtl. You're gutting half your roster for 2 players, 2 very good players, but why not keep the assets you're giving up and hope one of them turns into a difference maker? Mtl isn't far off from being competitive again this deal is a huge step in the wrong direction. Are you really comfortable putting Suzuki in as your top line centre in year 2? As for Cgy, that's a massive influx of players on a team that doesn't need a complete overhaul and I don't think any of those players are the solution to our problems. Just a weird and unnecessary deal all around

+ Gaudreau has 2 full seasons remaining on his contract, which is very valuable. Monahan has 3 full seasons remaining. Both on great cap hits for what they're worth.</div></div>
Dang I really thought next year was it for him contract wise my bad lol even better then 2 full years shoots his value up even more

We barely made the playoffs this year with them and have missed before with them, maybe we don't trade both but one definitely has to go at this point. Johnny Gaudreau is 27 and on the last year of his contract this year, at this point I'd trade him while he's still our best asset and try to build around the other talent we have.

It's not a rebuild but a change to the core, Monahan and Gaudreau have had 5/6 years on this team to do something and both have failed to elevate their game to when things get tough. They've had their chance to win, time to move on with Tkachuck and our young defencemen as the foundation. Idk what the move is but I know that Monahan and Gaudreau are done in Calgary

Gaudreau
Both are great player but they have their warts too, Johnny is a noted playoff ghost, Marner has defensive lapses and has a stupid big cap hit. Why would Toronto trade a young star point producer for an older similar player who they'll have to end up paying for down the road anyway? Why would Calgary trade their star point producer (although he certainly doesn't look like it right now) who has a friendly cap hit for a player that does the same job for almost double the money? Also Forget about Andersson like he's not being moved

NYR 2020 Trying To Be Realistic v2
Man I really really like Georgiev but our prospect depth is garbage right now so I think I'd keep the picks, just my opinion though. Realistically I think the flames take that deal, Talbot's been a wall this year but the guy is quickly pricing himself out of Calgary

Andersson definitely isn't available, the guy is a workhorse and probably a future top pair d-man. Our defence is already getting decimated this off season why would we trade one of our 3 guys left under contract?

Another Flames next year
Not sure if Jersey takes that trade, I think they'd rather the 2 picks than a 27 year old Gaudreau at this point of their rebuild. That goaltending tandem is a huge nope though, Askarov will be great I'm sure but no way he steps in right away as a starting goalie, Rittich and Dobby are a wash so why not just hold on to Rittich

I mean love the Hall deal but there's definitely some cap acrobatics that'll have to work out favourably. Mang is getting more than that this summer, Talbot would be taking a pay cut, and we'd have to let Hamonic go. I don't see us hanging on to either Brodie or Hamonic if we chase Hall.

At this point Risto has negative value, like the guy is a black hole on d. It'll take a lot to get Gaudreau and this most definitely won't do it.

Gaudreau
I don't know why it's suddenly a foregone conclusion Gaudreau is leaving, at this present moment it'll take a LOT to pry him out of Calgary. Like if you're not offering 1sts or a viable replacement, forget it. According to fans everyone is always going sign in their hometown until they don't a la Steven Stamkos. Tavares was the exception not the rule.

Agreed on the buffalo trade, the values are close for sure. Two seconds for Anderson seems steep though given his injury history and the fact he's had like one good season.
