If you take Yamamoto's buyout into account it's 2 x 2,5M. I don't think the move is worth it.

Makes sense if you think about it logically. They need goaltending and defense. None of the decent goalies want to go there, so that's not going to happen, and they aren't in on any top defenseman because of the prices. I'd like to see some sort of move, but this isn't shocking. This is a very odd team, but since they are in a weak division the might do something come playoff time? You never know.

There is no need for Edmonton to include a 1st in a deal like this. Koskinen is an expiring contract and Georgiev isn't good.

Brendan Saad is really overrated. For four straight years he hasn't cracked 50 points/50 point pace. He is a decent goal scorer. But you are signing him for term when he's already going to be 29.
I'd consider like a Tofolli deal but your deal is too high aav and in particular too long

Nino is great defensively and can get 55-60 points. Why do Carolina make this trade?

wdym would be their 3C? He's their 2C easily. Much better than Vincent Trochek or whoever they have there. And about him being "Edmonton's 3rd best center", well duh. Do you know who plays ahead of him?
Nino was on pace for 35 points this year. not "55-60 points"
RNH was on pace for 77 points this year.
this is a very uneducated take

Yeah, I changed my mind between making that comment and now. The bottom teams absolutely should not be in the playoffs but they were gifted a spot. Favoring them in the lottery would be dumb. They can't have it all.

- Tippett doesn't trust Benning in the top-4, that much is obvious. No way Holland builds a lineup that has Benning penciled into the top-4.
- Bouchard may be NHL ready now, but Holland won't clear a spot for him, that's not how he does things. And I agree. It would be a bad bet for a contender to pencil a raw rookie into the top-4 completely untried.
- Russell played much better on the left side, I don't think he's going back to the right except in the case of an in-game injury.
You're going into training camp with a weaker defense than last year, and only a slightly stronger offense.
And Honka is a really, really sad return for Puljujarvi. He may never play in the NHL again.

as an oilers fan, I'd rather buyout neal than give up a first to get rid of him. But imo I don't even think they'll get rid of him next season. I think they'd be more likely to wait out the whole contract than trade a first to get rid of him.

That was a "failure" from two GMs ago. The Holland front office shouldn't have any issue at all adding a player that can help us based on swallowing pride and admitting that two GMs/scouting department ago screwed up. So I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.
Gustaffson will/should also be drastically cheaper than Petry?

Kovalchuk for Puljujarvi
I think everyone is missing the point. EDM could absolutely use Kovy and even Cousins for that matter but that is irrelevant.
Edmonton has to win this trade because if he does well elsewhere it looks sooooo bad on them... Again!
Thats why it makes most sense to recoup another teams high end prospect who hasnt worked out in return. That way both teams can have a second chance at redeeming that high end prospect they once had.
Edm needs to trade Puljujarvi and feel like they got another potential Puljujarvi in return to feel like they didnt lose this trade.
Adding Kovy and Cousins might really help them in the playoffs but that would still be loss in the trade at the end if the day.

Summer After Deadline Transplant

Quoting: coga16

Stand corrected I just assumed morrisey was younger, forgot he Bridged before his deal

Nurse's agent used the Morrissey bridge almost exactly last time: Morrissey signed for $3.15M x 2 on September 16, 2018, on the eve of training camp. Nurse signed for $3.2 x 2 the very next day. Now Nurse's agent is ignoring Morrissey's $6.25M x 8 extension and targeting Trouba's $8M x 7 extension, so you can understand why Oilers fans are pissed about that right now. Sure Nurse scores more than both of them (at 5v5), but McDavid is a big part of that. Why should Edmonton have to pay everybody extra for McDavid's production? Okay, now I'm ranting...

Morrissey and Lindell have just 2 RFA years on their new deals - exactly the same number as Nurse has.

Could probably get Goldobin for less.
Seriously the Oilers should take a flyer on Goldobin, Baertschi, L.Andersson or Ho-sang, can't see the acquisition costs being too much and if it doesn't work out demote them and what'd you lose out on, probably a mid to late round pick which isn't a major loss.

Oilers get a 3C-Realistic CanucksSensNYRJackets trades
Most of Holland's work was to undo what Chiarelli did, and it's glaringly obvious that he's looking at a 3-year fix it window. If you're undoing that work, you're trying to bring back the Chiarelli-era Oilers.
A quick comparison of assets in vs assets out, and you've accomplished exactly that: you've purged 5 picks, two prospects, a potential reclamation project in Puljujarvi, a viable PK forward and two expiring one-year deals for.... Sutter and Buchnevich? Goldobin is as much of a question mark as Puljujarvi and the Condon swap is actual trash. Gagner is at least a 4th-line forward, but Condon isn't even a viable AHL goaltender ESPECIALLY when Edmonton already has to loan the loser of Skinner vs Wells to another franchise.
This doesn't look like a stronger roster (Paajarvi is not a third-line forward in the NHL) but it probably plays better. Unfortunately, it's not accomplishing the goal of building the team internally through the draft and short UFA deals that can be flipped at the deadline. You've Minnesota'd the team, and a mid-teens pick isn't helping this team anytime soon.
