These are horrendous trades for the Canucks. Domi and Zegras cannot play Tocchets style to any degree and will spend more time in the press box than on the ice. Reaves is done and his contract is awfull.

I do....my guess is they want more than minor league plugs surrounding Beddard. A top six winger with only one year remaining for a late second or third is a no brainer.

A late second is pretty cheap for a skill guy like Kuzmenko. Current rumors suggest the two teams are talking about just such a trade.

Domi wouldn't even see the ice in Vancouver. Tocchet is all about the details and Domi just has none of that to his game. Cole is by far the best FA signing of the summer for Vancouver. ZERO chance he is traded, especially for what amounts to nothing.

1) They'll overvalue Podzlokin
2) To my knowledge the rationale for VAN looking to move Garland is to free up space, so it may not make sense.</div></div>
How about explaining what Van gets out of this deal.....apart from nothing. Rakell doesn't fit on the roster or salary structure (just like in Pittsburgh) so dumping him will cost ya. POJ is the epitome of an overvalued asset LOL. At least Podkolzin has upside........

He would be an excellent defenseman on the 3rd pairing or even the 2nd in case of injuries and is very responsible defensively. He is small, absolutely, but he is great at closing space and gets to pucks before opponents.
https://www.capfriendly.com/scouting-reports/report/erik-brannstrom-2964
If your problem with him is that you want someone who is purely a defensive defenseman, I get that. However, Brannstrom is a solid bottom-pairing defenseman at this stage and honestly has middle pairing upside. He won't get waived and to suggest he will is insane lol. Of course, VAN would <em>never</em> want a small, offensively minded defenseman, right?</div></div>
They already have their quota of small D and more third pairing D men than anyone could possibly want. The Canucks are prioritizing a legit top 4 RD with size. Why on earth would Brannstrom even remotely be a fit? Sens fans have had Brannstrom in trade AGMs forever.....must be a real keeper. SMH

Vancouver is looking for bigger, defensively sound D men. Exactly what Brannstrom is NOT.

Doesn't put up a lot of points because he gets no power play time and limited minutes. He's a perfect bottom pairing guy on any team.
And before you say, well if thats so why don't you want to keep him, we already have Sanderson, Chabot, and Chychrun on the left side lol.</div></div>
Canucks have zero use for a small defensively challenged D and regardless of your opinion he is and has been a defensively challenged player. Like I said, no one will pony up a second. if they wait he goes on waivers at some point, that's how little upside i see.

If the Canucks are going for a left D, it'll be Zadorov. Branstrom for a second from anyone is a reach, there just isn't any real value there for that kind of an asset.

Not sure why the Canucks pay to take on a bad contract with term (Peeke). Peeke is really only an option in a Garland trade, where they save cap over time. A bottom six winger also holds the same attraction (none) for the Canucks. Adding cap, term and truly insignificant players is probably not something any team wants to do, let alone pay for the privilege.

VAN would you rather
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Soul</b></div><div>It sounds like you're probably underestimating these defensemen. They have flaws, but Peeke's numbers looks so bad due to how he was overutilized, and NHL GMs value physical dmen. Boqvist is an offensive dynamo with a rare skillset and is still young and developing. His defense sucks, but he still has a really high ceiling. 350k x 3 years is 1.05m, which based on established trades in this league, that is worth about a 4th round pick.
Maybe the retention has to be a little less, and/or maybe the pick has to be a round lower, but I do not believe this is that far off.</div></div>
Boqvist by all accounts is not at all what they are looking for. Defence, size and physicality are the priorities apparently and he has zero of those qualities. Peake has size and physicality so that's something, but it's almost certainly on the low end of what they want to accomplish. I don't know who is undervaluing whom, me a pure bottom of the rotation D man with bad numbers or you a middle six forward with good numbers. The much rumored trade hasn't happened so......might never know.

VAN would you rather
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Soul</b></div><div>VAN wants and needs to add a defenseman, and is going to have to move money out to do so. Garland is the better player, but I don't think it is a massive disparity. There is quite a bit of precedent across the league with the cap situation teams' are in for them to have to pay to move a contract with as much money and term as Garland's. Even with the retention it is taking 200-350k off of VAN's books for the next three years, and CBJ are adding that to theirs.</div></div>
Vancouver wants cap space, but they're not gonna get hosed to do it, especially not for 200-300 k over three years. They know they need to retain, that's the payment relative to his value. They aren't gonna retain, pay a sweetener and take on a bad contract of a marginal player. Like I said jizz in your pants.....

Peeke is a 6/7 D at best. Garland Peeke straight up is weak as it is, but at least he might get snapped up on waivers if push comes to shove. It's all about the cap here. This trade would probably have happened already though if it was ever going to. Gotta think that IF the Canucks retain (it's THREE YEARS) on Garland they will absolutely get something meaningful back.
