<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Booyah</b></div><div>I agree. I hope Ferly can come back healthy and well because i have always been a fan. As for bridge deals, yes they are nice, the only problem i have with them is say you sign an RFA (no specific name just example) to a 3 yr 6 m per year bridge deal. All fine and dandy, until his contract is up and hes worth 9 m or something like that. Long term maybe he would have signed for 7 or 7.5, .but now you end up paying more per year long term</div></div>
I think Hugo/EP long term already starts w/ a "9". Or if you prefer, collectively they are US$20M for the pair.

Buff to the rescue
Whatever team decided to take a shot at Buff, it's going to be a long way back, and who knows that his heart is still with this game anymore, and that's only my perception from how he handled things with the Jets. Would he return to a Canadian team, I think so. Would a competitive team really be willing to pay him that kind of money though? I think there will be a couple at least. Should the Canucks? They play a fast game. Even on the best of days with a healthy Buff, he's not a very fast player and I am sure he's lost quite a bit of foot speed. Sure, he has a great shot, plays means, hits, but if you can't keep up with your team's game, how valuable then are you to them? That's the question any team that is thinking of signing him will have to ask themselves.

Compliance Buyouts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Booyah</b></div><div>Wheres Mittelstadt? I wouldnt give Gauds more money than Shotgun Jake, Toffoli could probly get better money on open market, and no return of both Stecher and Tanev?</div></div>
Mittelstadt's on the list of non-roster players (where I found him on Buffalo's list) first up to get a call up or a bargaining chip at the deadline... Gaudette vs. Virtanen could be debated I don't disagree either way, I just defaulted to giving the center more money for some reason...
IMO the ship has more or less sailed on getting a return for Tanev unless he gets re-signed. With this scenario though there is still cap room to re-sign Tanev to a 3-4 year deal, just means one of the young guys has to wait for an injury to get called up. I wouldn't be against that.
As for Stecher, he is an RFA so I suppose I should've shown a trade of his rights at least... OR with the above scenario I wouldn't be against moving Benn for a late draft pick and then re-signing Stecher... or forgo the Boro signing all-together to keep Stecher.

I think the RFA signings looks about right, but I’d hope Marky, Toffoli and Tanev could be had at slightly lower cap hits. Even then the team will only be able to sign two of those three so they have the cap space for the Pettersson/Hughes extensions the following year.
I know it’s crazy based on his last two seasons, but if there’s an odd man out I hope it’s Markstrom. I don’t like the idea of signing 30+ year olds to long term deals and I feel like he’ll want one.

i'm more confused at why VAN does this. Pearson has an extra year and is on about the same cap. We need him for depth more than Dzingel. I agree that Dzingel is probably the better goal scorer, but Pearson has found chemistry here, and that's a difficult thing to find again.

88 Million Cap Next Year
a) the cap will not be 88 mil next year,
players will fight it tooth and nail bc the higher the cap the higher the escrow. i think it will be like 84-85 realistically.
b) markstrom is paid to much
c) don't need Hoffman, especially at 5.8 for 5 years.
d) ericksson will be bought out before he retires.

Would this be a playoff team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>klondikebar</b></div><div>I think they COULD sneak into a wild card spot</div></div>
Yeah they could definitely sneak into a playoff spot, but I also think that it might be beneficial for this team to be bad for one more year. Apparently the 2020 draft is loaded with offensive talent. It could really bolster this teams offense moving forward. However, playoff experience is also very valuable.

Would this be a playoff team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Booyah</b></div><div>Feel like we need more of an upgrade on forward than just Miller, and more than just Gardiner on D</div></div>
Yeah I agree that we probably need more to be a legit playoff contender. But I also think that the Canucks would be wise to avoid doing too much this year, given that they will have a cap crunch coming soon. They have been rumored to be interested in Gardiner, I think at a reasonable term and cap he would be a good addition. As far as Miller, the hope is you get him cheap because of Tampa's cap situation. Also with this lineup your banking on Juolevi, Pettersson, Boeser, Gaudette and Hughes all taking some type of step forward (although that might be a bit of a stretch).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SammyT_51</b></div><div>you are not getting Nylander for that. Beartchi would be lucky to play again on even close level he was before injury, Tanev has very little trade value due to injuries and history of them (he is injured almost every year) and 2nd.. its just second round pick. Nylander would haul Woo, 1st and some very good forward prospect who is playmaker that can be on NHL level within a year or two..
basically Leafs are not trading Nylander.</div></div>
You’re really overvaluing Nylander. Where are you getting your cap relief from to sign Marner, Kapanen and Johnson? Because nobody is taking Zaitsev off your hands and Marleau won’t waive

I wonder if this could work
Teams NEVER reach the basement by taking on long term contracts that actually cost real money. Sorry Ericsson and his NTC stays a Canuck, though with retention it wouldn't be bad trade for the Sens as you show. No way the Flyers trade Frost....especially for THAT. Flyers have cap and will keep MacDonald. Seattle expansion, NTCs don't have to be protected. NMCs have to be protected unless the player waives that right for the draft.
