What I Would Attempt To Do
I think this makes a lot of sense and is rationale. Like you said tho I don’t think BG does this bc gms can’t usually do something suited for the long term since their shelf life tends to be short. Even when common sense should dictate.

The one team that might like Zuccarello are the Kings....and just might be on Zucc's trade list. They can afford his cap and might like his two year term. I think it's a good thought..

No idea why it’s so difficult for people to grasp the concept of GMs wanting McBain but not feeling confident that they can sign him as a UFA. Half this site just completely shuts down any critical thinking whenever this subject comes up. It’s astonishing.

No I haven't been at all. I can't think of any guys that have the term, are relatively cheap, and would be worth it to trade for.
Perhaps guys like Vince Dunn, Brian Dumoulin, Jake McCabe, Brendan Dillon, Matt Grzelcyk would all be potential options, but I'm not in love with any of them.
Ironically, Carson Soucy would be great right now. I also like Scandella still. But he's always been one of my favorite players in the league so I might be blinded by that.

We might offer a prospect that used to be a 1st round pick instead though.

On Fiala...I had the following for Fiala <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2910654">the other day</a>:
Kuokkanen, Okhotiuk, 2nd
More young-player-oriented than futures-oriented.
And <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2726798">here were my Fiala trade comps </a>from last summer.
Kind of a mixed bag there.
I think Buchnevich and Reinhart probably set market for him.

Continuing the Culture Change
IF we're trading Fiala, and IF it's for a package of futures (as opposed to an established or soon to be established top six center), it would absolutely need to be something like Holloway and a 1st at minimum. No 2nd, no lesser prospect. Holloway and a 1st is the bare minimum it should take to get Fiala.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wildwinswhen</b></div><div>So the cost for protecting Dumba....
Alex Tuch
Erik Haula
Jordan Greenway
Cam Talbot
He's not worth that much!!! If you traded Dumba and got any two of those pieces back you'd feel like you won the trade.
Addison is waiting in the wings. It's time to let Dumba go.</div></div>
You can’t use Tuch and Haula in this equation...that’s history.
The biggest issue, IMO, on the eventual decision on Dumba is whether or not they can afford to re-sign him in 2 years...which will be very challenging as the roster is currently constructed.
However, I believe Dumba is one of the 5-6 players on this team that has what it takes to really dictate the outcome of a grueling 7 game series. In no particular order, The others on this list are: Fiala and Kaprizov (obviously), Dumba, Ek, Greenway, and Foligno...and possibly Brodin. I argued for a couple of years that Dumba should be a bigger part of the Wild’s future than Spurgeon and I still believe this to be true...because of (his age) but mostly because Dumba is a unique set of skills: speed, strength, tenacity, shot, and also his ability to agitate! In my humble opinion, he is made for playoff hockey. Most of the Wild’s failures in the playoffs has been due to the lack of players wired for the playoffs and I want a team built differently than many...and Dumba would be a huge part of my plan.

Need more size to compete with Vegas in a 7 gamer. Do you suggest we do nothing and get our heads pounded in ala Fiala and have another first round exit?</div></div>
Yes, correct, I suggest we do nothing. Beating up on LA, SJ, and Anaheim for a month and a half has put the delusion in some Wild fans heads that this team can actually compete for a Cup. All three of those teams were bottom 5 in the entire league last season and projected to be about the same this season. Just because we're sitting in a playoff spot doesn't mean we're contenders, and doesn't mean we should be spending quality assets at the deadline to try to make a run.
If you want "toughness", tell Foligno and Greenway to stop acting like they're skill players, and tell them to start doing the job they're paid for.

Billys Plan
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>That's the key to making posts here. Most AGM threads fail to address other teams needs, it's always nice to see those that do.
These seem pretty realistic, the Vegas trade I thought was a huge overpayment at first but when you consider historic trades that mirror this (Marleau trade specifically), that's about what it costs to move a big contract. As others have mentioned that's quite a lot to move up just 3 spots, something like 9 and 29 for 6 and 36 sounds close... Maybe a sweetener would be in order or we take a prospect instead of their 2nd. Right idea IMO, I really want Rossi. Otherwise maybe you even move up to 5 with Ottawa and get him or Perfetti depending on who Detroit takes.</div></div>
Following the Sens Athletic reporter and she suggests they may be leaning Rossi at 5 and Perfetti seems like a lock in Detroit. But honestly, 4 picks in the top 40 would be amazing for the org and its possible to use those to move into the top 20 and have 3 picks if Judd really likes a guy there. I would not be upset to get Sanderson at 9 and grab Mercer/Zary through a trade up.
I think what both of these trades and the trades that have happened show is how valuable actual salary is. Dubs with 50% retention is only a million in cash, and its still hard to believe that package would even warrant a 2nd but it makes sense in the current environment. Regarding Fleury, the market was set at a 2nd for about 4 mil for a year in the Staal deal so taking the full deal for 2 years is definitely worth a 1st.
