even if we don’t completely move on from norris, we need an insurance plan at centre

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>no the appeal here to both teams is moving out cap they could offload into something more useful.
Chychrun maybe more useful than Jarry to the Pens. But they don't need another high priced defenseman. It only makes sense if it's simply swapping numbers on the cap.
Not taking an extra 2 mil back.
Just like for OTT, it wouldn't make sens if I said, Chychrun for Jarry and Smith.
The cap doesn't work out for you.
You are better off just offering Jarry for Chychrun , both teams swap cap they want out for cap that could be more useful and not include Forsberg at all.
Just send him down to the AHL and save 1 mil on his cap.
See the pens don't need to dump Jarry. But if they did it has to work for them, not rack up their cap to benefit OTT.
It's like saying take Chychrun for 7 mil per, when they got EK at 10, Letang at 6, Graves at 4.5 and MP at 4.
There is no way. That cap number has to come down as they then spend to keep Ned which probably cost 2.5 or so and you are looking at 9.5 in cap to bring in another defenseman that is a luxury.
But if in the end it costs 4.6 for Chychrun and 2.5 for Ned, then it's not as bad and like adding a 2mil defenseman which isn't so much a over priced luxury.</div></div>
what if it was a smith-jarry forsberg-chychrun swap

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>Chychrun is a negative for both teams here.
Neither team wants to hold that cap. It's simply a swap of cap. Pens need another high priced defenseman like they need Crosby to retire.
You want to move out 7.35 for 5.375 and act like it's a steal.
It's not.
I'm asking a 1.375 to balance the cap out more. If you can't, sorry, don't have the cap space to do it. Pens got other needs like finding better forwards in FA.</div></div>
I wasnt meaning to act as though it was a steal, but I thought to go from Jarry-Ned in goal Ned-Forsberg would be worth adding Chychrun and 1.3m in cap. If theres not a value on Chychrun then it would kind of nullify any kind of deal centered around these 3

As it is now you are asking PIT to take in an extra 2 mil in cap. That's not gonna happen.
But if OTT retained 50% Pit could bury him in the AHL and let him help mentor their Russian goalie next year and it becomes pretty much cap neutral.</div></div>
I dont think I could retain. i think Chycrun holds more value than Jarry imo and to get them closer I have the pens taking on a backup G. If you wanted me to retain on eiter chychrun or Forsberg i could but the pens would need to add

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Beauterham</b></div><div>Oof... I have a hard time to rate Greig's value... I can definitely see the Blues being interested in him, but I really don't know how to rate him. the only really young defense the sens have is kleven, who’s good, but i think caps out as a defence first 3LD. Other than that, if the blues could rid themselves of a LD, would be interested in a chychrun swap?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Beauterham</b></div><div>At the last trade deadline the apparant ask was said to be 2 first round picks or something of equal value where we were also willing to retain on his contract.
Don't know if the ask has changed yet as he has less term but including an extension is now possible.
I can imagine the current ask would be a first and good, but not elite (think: Wallinder) prospect or a better prospect and a 2nd (think: Willander + 2nd: which is not going to happen, but just for reference). Can also include Buch in a trade to 'upgrade' 16 overall to a higher pick if someone we really like is still on the board. Can also see Buch being moved for a younger rosterplayer with potential (see the Mittlestadt / Byram trade).</div></div>
not that i would necessarily do it but like what about something among the lines buch for grieg? like that kind of young player swap?

Maybe a hot take but to me Nemec is 100% expendable in a Tkachuk-type trade. Its probably a lot closer to a 1 for 1 than anyone wants to admit but the devils have the depth and youth outside of Nemec at RD to compensate for losing him for Tkachuk. I cant put a package together in my head that makes any sense fot Ottawa other than that

<em>This is a team that desperately wants to make the jump to being a playoff contender. They have good young pieces and players entering their prime that should keep them relevant for a while if they can level up. If they do consider trading Brady (and I'm not sure why they would unless he's asking out), I think it will definitely be for a comparable player or package of players that will help the Sens <strong>win-now</strong>.
</em></div></div>
I see that, but to me there is no win-now trade that involves Tkachuk. Hes going to be the best player in the deal pretty much no matter what. Unless youre looking at like Hamilton + Mercer then maybe theres an avenue there, but even then I dont know that Mercer does enough for the Sens to go from 25 year old Tkachuk on a good deal to 31 year old Hamilton on a big deal until hes realisitcally over the hump. Like if anyone is making a win now deal between these 2 teams centered around Tkachuk its the devils
