As an islanders fan I am sure they want Lehner back but probably on a shorter deal (2-3yrs). Arguably Greiss was as good and both Greiss and Lehner benefited from the Trotz system. I think the islanders plan B would be Varlamov for 3yr term as they will likely bring top prospect goalie Sorokin from KHL the following year when Greiss’s contract is finished. Simply, isles may want another Russian when they bring over a rookie Russian. Or just sign Bobrovsky and Panarin and let Lehner walk. It’s really hard to say.

Unfortunately his ailments will affect his contract due to risks in my opinion. A 2-3 year contract is not unreasonable at 4.5 to 5 mil max.
