I don’t think there is a good fit for Trouba on the isles but I could see them making a deal for Ehlers. Isles have an excess of good D prospects. Maybe a Noah Dobson or Bode Wilde would be a starting point for Ehlers.

As an islanders fan I am sure they want Lehner back but probably on a shorter deal (2-3yrs). Arguably Greiss was as good and both Greiss and Lehner benefited from the Trotz system. I think the islanders plan B would be Varlamov for 3yr term as they will likely bring top prospect goalie Sorokin from KHL the following year when Greiss’s contract is finished. Simply, isles may want another Russian when they bring over a rookie Russian. Or just sign Bobrovsky and Panarin and let Lehner walk. It’s really hard to say.

Unfortunately his ailments will affect his contract due to risks in my opinion. A 2-3 year contract is not unreasonable at 4.5 to 5 mil max.

As a follower of the Islanders; Sutter could be a fit to replace Filppula at 3rd/4th line center....if healthy.
Ho Sang seems to have worn out his welcome on the island so I would start him. Not sure what value canucks would want. HoSang is still young, former 1st round pick with upside potential.
So Sutter for HoSang + pick or prospect (Burroughs?)

In defence of Chia...lol He did trade Davidson to Montreal for Deharnais then reacquired Davidson off waivers then traded him to the islanders for a 3rd pick.
Not bad really!
The rest from Chia is horrible.
Griffin Reinhart for picks that become Barzal, Beauvillier for the islanders I think turned out the worst.

I guess I see value in Ryan as a playoff performer. Islanders may lose Eberle, Lee, and Nelson to free agency next year. Islanders would be taking a large step backwards if that happens. If you have Ryan then losing Eberle to free agency is not as big a deal.

Well Johnson is a throw in and I think ottawa could use an intimidation player to protect their young players.

I guess 2019 1st, conditional 2nd becomes a 2020 1st pick if stone resigns, Ho-Sang, maybe a prospect like Burroughs, Quennville, or Wotherspoon.

Isles need centre depth and likely have to take Kulikov for cap reasons. So Leddy for Kulikov, Petan and a 1st round pick.

Well it seems like Nylander wants out of Toronto. Especially if he wants to play centre in the future. I thought the trade might make sense for both teams. Toronto is in a win now situation with Tavares. Islanders are really building for the future.
Leafs get Tavares’s 40 goal wingman. Isles get a potential #2 centre behind Barzal.
Isles would not add a Dobson or Walhlstrom.

I am not sold on Nelson but I would give him a serious shot at centering lee and Bailey in JT’s spot on a one year contract. If Nelson does not put up significantly improved numbers from last season and the isles are not playoff bound then I would trade him as a rental at the trade deadline to a team looking for depth scoring.
