How to make the cap work
Just because throwing sissons and fabbro in there make the trade work from a cap standpoint, doesnt mean it makes sense from a value perspective.
I could see Tolvanen, Tomasino, plus 1st working, or something like that. I also think that Calgary doesnt really have an upper hand in negotiations since its well known that tkachuk wants out and its for RFA rights.
Idk… what do i know. I’d love to have tkachuk and i hope we can make something work without being counter-productive like you said

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>herzausstein</b></div><div>Binnington helped to lead his team to being Stanley Cup Champions. Binnington and Saros have pretty similar stat lines so I'd say Binnington is probably a decent comparable. Binnington's price would be inflated by having a cup so Saros should come in a tad under Binnington.
Why is Seattle getting two young players? They can only select 1 and they aren't taking a bad contract.</div></div>
I agree with you 100% on Binnington/Saros. That was my thought process too.
My line of think for expansion selection is that Poile does not want to leave it up to chance. I think he'll actually want to keep Duchene/Johansen or at least not pay the price for Seattle to take one of them. I think Trenin is the most expendable piece out of Sissons, Jarnkrok, Jeannot and Olivier. So I think Poile would use Ingram (good, young goalie to fill out roster or who team) as the sweetener to take Trenin
Just my two cents. I think he could go a lot of directions.

You might be right. I'll go 5.5 x 5. I really don't think he will or should get more than Binnington's 6 x 6.

NJ has the space so I doubt they care if they have to keep Subban. Voracek produces like a top line player still. Tampa won't pay anything for them to take a guy like Gourde or Palat.</div></div>
My point was not to see how much reimbursement Seattle could get for taking seemingly undesirable contracts, but to give these players an opportunity where they are relied on heavily and gambling that they can still produce .
I wanted to create a competitive roster based on the idea that one or two of these guys can return to form.

Garland
That's a huge commitment to Saros. I think the most appropriate comp for Saros is Binnington. 6mil x 6 yrs, and he won a Stanley Cup. I can't see Saros getting more money or term than that.
I love the idea of getting Garland, but the only way I see something like that happening is if he openly states not wanting to return to AZ. Still pretty unlikely the Coyotes move their one star player.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Luke_xiv</b></div><div>Makes sense and I definitely see your pont here. I'm trying not to be too low on them either, but I think if you'd offer them both by exposing them it'd be even more intreaguing for Seattle to take one of them, since they have the choice. For the Preds getting rid of either one of them (imo preferably Johansen b/c I think overall Duchene is the better player with still more upside) means cap space in order to bring in FAs on better deals.</div></div>
I hear ya. I wouldn't be too upset moving on without one of those two contracts. I just don't think an NHL GM leaves that decision up to chance. I'm sure they have a preference as to who they move forward with if it's not both of them. Essentially, Poile will not let another franchise decide our future. That's my logic anyways.

I dont mind losing Trenin, but I'd rather lose Cousins/Grimaldi if they are incorporating picks in the selection process</div></div>
As far as Trenin, I think it's a situation where he may request being exposed for a better opportunity. I think Poile would rather keep the vets around. That's my opinion of what Poile will do. It'd be nice getting assets for the fringe guys, but I think he'll keep the depth. I highly doubt Tomasino plays 82. He'll get eased in this year, add injury replacements to that and I think we'll be happy to have the depth.

I'm not as low on those guys as most people. Honestly, I think Seattle would seriously consider either of those guys. I have a sneaking suspicion that Johansen could end up out there since he's a BC guy. He's not super productive, but he'd definitely be one of the best centers available and he'd help Seattle get to the cap minimum lol. Honestly, I think Seattle would be pretty lucky to get either one of 'em. If Nashville does let either guy go, it spells full rebuild and I just don't think that's the route they would or should go. My two cents. No guarantee that full rebuilds result in getting a generational talent like Wright and Bedard are supposed to be. It's simply too costly to be at the bottom of the league.

Would love to have a Tkachuk, and Matthew scored one of the sickest goals I've ever seen against the Preds.

why we wont sign the player you want
This is probably the most likely scenario entering the season. Bubble team at best, but no sense in adding guys like Hoffman or Duclair. Preds are not one scoring winger away from being a contender right now.
I love the 3rd line. That seems like a great situation for Tomasino, and Sissons is deserving of much more PT.

Some people say sissons can play 3c but realistically hes better as a 4c plus having 4 capable centers never hurt.</div></div>
It does hurt when your 3C is getting paid nearly 6 million. It hurt last year when Turris was making 6mil and playing 12min/game. Preds better have a plan to move out Johansen or Duchene if you’re bringing in a guy for that much.

Definitely like the look of this team. However, I hope Poile sticks to his word on keeping spots open for youth to fill in and doesn't sign a guy like Dadonov. Also, hard to imagine giving up a 2nd rounder for Mcnabb when we'd have to expose him in expansion.

Who needs a Center
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensibleguy</b></div><div>Ottawa doesn’t have any incentive to do this deal. Bonino @ $2.4MM for 1 year is fine, but the Sens have a lot of forwards, so to pay a 2nd for an unnecessary player doesn’t make sense. Nashville needs to make it worthwhile for Ottawa. They need to pay Ottawa an asset to take Bonino, and his contract.
Ottawa centre depth with NHL experience
White
Norris
Tierney
L.Brown
Anisimov
Chlapik
N.Paul
And of course they could have Stutzle or Byfield, each would get at least a 9 game tryout.</div></div>
Appreciate the thoughtful response. I guess I got hung up on the fact that Ottawa is payin less for the 4.1mil cap hit, and has an abundance of picks. I do think that Bonino is the one center the Preds have that does not have a prohibitive contract. Ottawa may not be the right fit, but I’m convinced the Preds could get a mid-round draft pick for him and not be forced to sell him off like they’d have to do for Turris or something.

I dont see any team giving up a 2nd for bonino unless they have like $20,000,000 in cap cuz most teams wouldnt be able to take his cap so if you are trading him ask for a player back thats making $4,000,000 or less that will help your team.</div></div>
Ottawa needs to spend to get to the cap floor, they have 7 picks in first two rounds, and Nashville can pay Bonino’s bonus so that he only costs Ottawa 2.4mil in real dollars. Seems like the perfect fit to me...
