Still amazes me how late he fell in draft.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>Thoughts on ROR-Kyrou together? It just doesn't unlock anything for me. Maybe you're able to hide some of Kyrou's defensive inefficiencies playing him with ROR but you're also putting that line up against the other team's best so you're not getting the good matchup for Kyrou to feast on. Eventually I'd like to see
Kyrou-Thomas-Tarasenko
Saad-ROR-Buch
Neighbours-Brown-Schenn
Barby-Acciari-Leivo/Klim/Pitlick</div></div>
I don't totally hate it but I don't think it really utilizes either player in the best way. I think masking the defense problems is what the logic is and I do think that will work but I wonder if the speed mismatch will hurt the offense, especially from Kyrou. Kyrou has some really good passing ability, but if he's leading the breakout and O'Reilly is struggling to keep up and he continues to struggle to finish like he did last year, I worry there's just going to be a lot of wasted time in the offensive zone and/or lots of Kyrou doing a lot of one-and-dones.
Ultimately Kyrou and Thomas need to be playing together for me, I think they have completely complementary skillsets and their chemistry is the future of the team. I also like Buchnevich and O'Reilly together, for me that's the basis of a Danault-esque shutdown line you send out against everyone. I would have loved to see Perron stick around and round out that trio. If those pairs are together I won't have much to complain about (until it stops working), especially if Brown can snag the 3C spot and allow Schenn to be a top-6 power forward than a third line center.
I will say, it's a bit tough to see how Tarasenko fits in this lineup beyond this season, even beyond the cost it would take to keep him and whether he even wants to stick around.

Opening Night Lines
I don't think they're going to be splitting up Buchnevich-Thomas-Tarasenko this earlier in the season. They seem to want to give Brown a crack at 3C, and they've had Kyrou stapled to O'Reilly most of the preseason/camp. Perunovich is hurt and no one seems to know how bad but he's missing a good chunk of the preseason at this point. If he happens to be healthy and makes the lineup, he won't be playing above Leddy on opening night (though wouldn't be surprised if he steals a top 4 job from him eventually). Don't really see why they would need Tucker on the roster if they're already scratching a defenseman. If Perunovich isn't ready, maybe, but I kind of think it will be Santini or Rosen first.
Buchnevich-Thomas-Tarasenko
Schenn-O'Reilly-Kyrou
Neighbours - Brown - Saad
Barbashev - Acciari - Leivo
Krug - Faulk
Leddy - Parayko
Mikkola - Bortuzzo
Kostin
Toropchenko (if he's ready, seems like he is?)
Rosen/Santini

St. Louis Blues signed Jordan Kyrou (8 Years / $8,125,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yikes</b></div><div>Cant wait to see the praise for this deal compared to the criticisms of Stutzle's.</div></div>
There is no longer a distinction between what star RFAs coming off their ELC and star UFAs (or RFAs selling off significant UFA years) get on long term deals. Teams get their RFA discounts on 2nd line players and bottom 6 players because those players have less leverage.
People will point to JT Miller signing for 8 million over 7 years as a criticism of the Stutzle or Kyrou deal. As in, why does a mystery box in Stutzle get more than a known near 100 point player in Miller. Well, Miller's contract starts the year he turns 31, and takes him well into his late 30s. There is an understanding that he won't be a 100 point player for the entire contract. Stutzle and Kyrou signed contracts that stretch through their prime years.
I think part of what we are seeing is that teams are motivated to lock up these players because there is an expectation that the cap is going to explode once escrow is repaid. 3-4 years from now, the norm could very well be 10 million for these kind of players, not 8.

First of all, history if filled with 1st line stars who only had a passing acquaintance with defense. More importantly, just because a young player makes some mistakes on defense doesn;t mean he never plays defense. That was his first full season, he's learning. Relax.

When he gets moved down in the lineup (as Berube does, when you aren’t performing), he tends to be very pouty in his body language and post-game pressers. I hope he makes me eat my words, but I don’t think JK will ever be a franchise corner piece, because he isn’t a team player! There’s a reason he wasn’t on the 2019 SC Team.</div></div>

Blues GM is weird
He can extend his key young guys to good deals but then turns around and gives Nick Leddy a god awful extension
Either way he should live up to it. But this probs means ROR is gone

All these naysayers are cracking me up big time. In a couple years, the Thomas and Kyrou extensions will be the envy of the league (if they secretly aren't already :tearsofjoy ). Of course, these are probably some of the same folks who laughed at me a couple years back for arguing these two were legit 1st line talents.

Solid contract. $3.4 is modest 3C money, no real downside for the team even if the Dach reclamation project isn't a major success.

He was a 4th round pick so no one ever thought of him as a superstar. However, he was thought to be a solid middle 6 contributor at the high end. Honestly as a Blues fan the games he did play in were good, Blues are just too deep so no room for him.

It's nice to get the uncertainty about Fabbri's future with the Wings cleared up, and this contract is a pretty nice deal for both the player and the team. As a great middle-six scorer and an even better guy, it's awesome to see that Fabbs will be here for the foreseeable future.

It's a lot of money for a contract right after an ELC, but the Devils needed this, it will be a team friendly deal in the near future. Good deal for the Devils.
Now trade for Quinn Hughes
