<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dickie_Dunn</b></div><div>delusional! Why would the Canucks give you Lafferty back? Move on.</div></div>

That's the tough thing as a Leaf fan. Moving on.

There are times when you aren't sure how a signing or trade are going to work out and after a bit of time you are happy, disappointed or indifferent by the result.

...and then there are the OBVIOUS moves that should or should not be done...

As Leaf fans we watched Mason Marchment go from a great signing as an undrafted 6'4" 200+ lbs LW on a league minimum contract to be dumped for a 5'8" "skilled" forward. It was obvious that he was getting better and better every season and he was going to be a offensively productive LW with size and snarl. Leafs' management didn't keep him.

Zach Hyman always wanted to be a Leaf. Played hard in the corners, great a puck retrieval and had the hockey IQ to play on the top line with some of the world's top players. After management signed 3 forwards to over $33 MIL a season, Hyman was rumoured to want $5 MIL and they felt that was too much to invest in a 1st line forward. This is a guy who went from 4 goals to 10, 15, 21, to pro-rated 34 goals and is currently on pace for 54 goals. It was obvious to everyone that he would be a BARGAIN even though he would be in his mid 30s when the contract was finished. Also, Leaf fans know of the management's "Robidas Island" for bad, older contracts.

Did you know that McCann was a Leaf? In Pittsburgh he went from pro-rated 17 goals to pro-rated 27 goals when the Leafs traded for him. He was on an obvious upward trajectery and was left exposed so that we could keep Holl. HOLL!! Signed a $5 MIL contract in Seattle and scored 40 goals last year.

Lafferty is fast, 6'1", plays on the PK, RH shot, has a bit of an offensive upside and can fight. Instead of putting Reaves on waivers as an old, slow RW who has really been NOT fighting for a few seasons, they let Lafferty go for virtually nothing.

As Vancouver fans, how can any of you relate to a mismanaged team?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SomeonesOffended</b></div><div>Pesce Carlo and byram are unobtainable Carlson might be too Columbus would have to pay us to take peeke and I highly doubt Montreal and Toronto complete a trade so that leaves tanev larsson shenn and bush</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Just to add, Leafs didn't want Schenn and his three year contract otherwise he would be a Leaf.
After seeing Woll getting hurt, maybe goaltending is bigger issue this year.
Maybe the Leafs shouldn't be trading and giving away futures this season. Just make the playoffs, having everyone healthy in April, and make a run like the Panthers did last season.</div></div>

The thing with Schenn is his contract is a year too long and around $1.5 MIL too rich. As a player though, he has adapted so well to his skill set that it is remarkable. As you all know, in the 2018-19 season when he was demoted by 2 different teams to the AHL and looked like his career was over he purposely re-defined himself based on what he could provide as a player rather than everyone's expectations that had been placed on him...like Scott Stevens 2.0, etc...

I figured Schenn was going to get signed to a pay raise to around $1.25 MIL x 2 years and maybe he would milk it to $1.5 MIL. $2.75 MIL was absurd in my mind and the 3 year deal connected to it was insane...but then I look at Lyubushkin getting $2.75 who doesn't have the skillset of Schenn, Gudas getting a 3 year deal at $4.0 MIL(!!) as a smaller RHD that can only fight non-fighters, glass-jaw Cernak getting $5.2 MIL, Chiarot getting $4.75, Gudbranson getting $4.0 MIL, and even Holl getting $3.4 with a M-NTC is crazy.

I would get Schenn back for a 3rd pick but see if a team (either Nashville or a 3rd team) would retain $1 MIL for an Leaf asset because after the playoffs started and the intensity picked up Schenn didn't get knocked around like most of the other Leafs defence men like Brodie, Gio and even McCabe.

Against Tampa Bay when Rielly checked a TBay forward that slipped into the boards and acted like he had a career ending injury all the ruffians (including Pat Maroon, Jeannot and Perry) were yelling at the Leafs bench. Schenn was intimidated by no one on the TBay bench and just skated over and leaned against the boards between the 2 benches. That's worth something when we are warring in the trenches.

I believe Hanafin is the dman the Leafs need to target even though he doesn't play the right side. I absolutely HATE giving up a 1st round pick for a player without term. This might be the exception. The re-sign might be $7.25 x 8 though.

Tanev is in the twilight of his career and plays so reckless that he has gotten injured way to often. I hope the older players and ones below 6'1" are avoided. The Leafs have enough good ones that it would only be lateral moves.

I was worried the Leafs might get Zadorov because he is huge and plays with snarl which the Leafs need BUT...he is a 3rd pairing dman on a Stanley Cup contending team. Making almost $4 MIL is expensive for that role.

I also looked at AJ Greer. He is 6'3" and can fight half decent. At 27 he is only now starting to stick as a 4th liner. Noah Gregor is a better skater, better offensive and throws the same number of hits (pro-rated). Gregor is only 6'0" and doesn't fight...so it depends on what we see wins games for the Leafs. I am genuinely torn on this one.

Going for a RHD trade of a lumbering, older player with retention I would see if we could pry Schenn out of Nashville. Schenn has a high hockey IQ, has gotten in peak physical shape, can complement Rielly's style perfect AND is a legitimate heavy weight fighter in today's NHL.

I am not sure about the goalie trade.

If we are trading for Sundqvist then we must replace Holmberg with Reeves....simply because I think it would be funny to have them traded for each other again. I would prefer Lafferty though. I heard he is worth Vancouver's 5th...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingExLeafs</b></div><div>It already is that under the current management. Hyman, Moore, Marchment, Sandin, Brown, Bunting, Kadri, so many players, picks and prospects gone, with nothing to show for it.

Giving Nylander an 11 million deal would be a big mistake. You commit big money to centers, defencemen, and goalies, not wingers.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Every team has players who make it elsewhere and every team lets FA goes. Every teams goal is to win the Stanley Cup sooner or later, not to get an asset from every player that walks through the door.

Sandin was traded for a 1st, so if they have nothing to show for it then why would you suggest they do the same with a much better player than all the guys you listed?</div></div>

It was ludicrous to let Hyman, McCann, Marchment, etc go as it was obvious that they had talent that the Leafs needed. Kadri and Bunting wore out their welcome with their antics although I really liked them as Leaf forwards. Brown was a Cap casuality due to the bizarre Zaitsev massive contract.

Sandin has talent but was getting knocked around a bit and would make some brain dead plays. He made a few against Arizona last game and it flashed me back to some of the plays he would do on the Leafs right after he did an earlier brilliant play. Trading him and getting RW Cowan who is absolutely tearing it up in the OHL is a decent trade off as Cowan should be ready to step in when Jarnkrok's contract is up...which is what you are hoping to see done with some of the current Leaf's assets...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>Get with the times, this isn't a "cause" it's a demographic of people that have been persecuted for decades. How many NHL players are standing up and saying "I am against Christians!" None. But there are many players saying they are against the LGBTQ community. And that is exactly what they are saying. Hide behind whatever bull**** reason you want but it's discrimination and it's not acceptable. The NHL is on the wrong side of this and it's only making the league look stupid. Riemer can believe what he wants but keep it to himself. Because when you stand up and say, "Homosexuality is a sin" which is exactly what he is saying that is the same as saying "they will burn in hell for this perversion" and that's not acceptable. Anyone who disagrees needs to get their head straight.</div></div>

So this is a Christianity vs LGBTQ issue and the most effective forum to advance this is the sports realm and specifically hockey in our case? I guess that I would like to see that dealt with in a place where they are able to meaningful discussions between the people involved so that the hurts, frustrations, anger, misunderstandings and prejudices can be aired in a respectful and brutally honest way. If Christians still don't agree , well they are told to love their enemies...so they should be willing to support, love and help no matter how extreme their view ends up being.

25 - 30 years ago when my brother was helping with the Pride parade here in our smallish city, he and his friends got pushed out of the organizing by people who weren't even in their community with an agenda to make their point/profits. It was sad and unjust. I will not forget that.

A few years ago my mom died of cancer which is a ruthless disease that has touched most people in the world somehow. I still miss her and grieve. When I go to a hockey game I am not seeing that as a platform to promote that. I donate to research and help folks in my city through volunteering but I see sports as entertainment not a place to declare injustices, political activism or bigotry.

The extremes in beliefs don't bother me whether in politics right/left, atheism/agnostic/religioius, etc. In my mind strong friendships are built by building relationship with people who have diverse beliefs from yourself but most things I see online are polarizing with one group saying the other is ignorant, evil, conspirisists, etc.

I appreciate you expressing your point. I guess we will disagree on the non-hockey point that bigotry is angering you and this bigotry is the cause that is being addressed by the special night to reach out to the LGBTQ.

On the hockey side, I think Reimer is on the wrong side of 30 and as <a href="/users/JoeROFLCOPTER" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@JoeROFLCOPTER</a> pointed out he is only a backup at this point not a player who Treliving should be looking at to stabalize the Leafs net.
