<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RC_82</b></div><div>I wouldn't touch that philly deal tho... Rasmus at 5x5? yuck... </div></div>

Yea, if we are going for big, RHD that will throw hits but struggle as a dman I would rather see if CLB wants out of the Gudbranson deal because he is all that BUT can fight if needed. They have him playing way more minutes then he should. 3 games ago against Dallas he played 24:58 in regulation after playing 24:01 the game before and 24:17 the game before that. In fact he hasn't played under 20 minutes since January.

Gudbranson is drowning with the 1st pairing minutes covering the leagues best forwards rather than the 3rd pairing minutes he played in Calgary. Dubas should offer them Holl who is a bit better defenseman that CLB can re-sign or let walk this summer for getting them out of the last 3 years of Gudbranson... so thay also have $1 MIL retained. Not quite the Zaitsev trade but....the Leafs could then offer the 2023 3rd round pick (TOR) used in the Ristolainen deal for a 3rd team to retain $1 MIL for the final 3 years of Gudbranson's contract. Oh...and I might include Joey Anderson for <a href="/users/Hammerwise" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Hammerwise</a> :)

Get Gudbrabson back on the 3rd pair with 3rd pair minutes:

Rielly / Brodie

Sandin / Liljegren

Giordano / Gudbranson

Scratch: Timmons, Benn

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RC_82</b></div><div>I like the addition of jeannot but don't think that deal gets it done. yes he is having a bad year but hes an RFA which automatically means hes more valuable because the team has control next season</div></div>

Adding Jeannot would neutalize Frederic and Hathaway on Boston as well as Perry and Maroon on TBay. I had posted this last July 9th when somebody was mentioning Tanner Jeannot:
“I am probably one of the biggest Jeannot homers on this web site but I am not sure if you realize that he only had one point from April 1st to the end of the season on April 29th. That is 15 games...yup...15 games.

In the playoffs he only had 1 assist and was -4. “

I understand that he looks like a UNICORN but last season he had an insane 19.4 S% after riding a 21.7 S% the 15 games he played at the end of 20-21. Currently he has 5 goals and a 5.8 S% which is probably half of what it should be. If he had a 11.0 S% and 10-12 goals a season then he would be a solid 3rd liner that plays the pk and is a light-heavyweight fighter. That package *might* get him but I think it could require a better set of picks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>The thing about a Muzzin type defenceman is Muzzin was actually good both ways and also was physical. Schenn and Gudas are both physical but suck at everything else in hockey. Neither are good skaters, both have no offence to add and both of them, despite a cap friendly reputation to the contrary, aren't overly good at defending.</div></div>

The defense is the toughest position to correct in my opinion.

Muzzin is a physical 6'3" 217 lbs LHD that averaged approximately 2 hits a game and had an offensive upside of approximately 0.5 ppg. He was just about to turn 30 when the Leafs acquired him and his 5.8% Cap hit at the time would be equivalent to approximately $4.9 MIL with an additional year left. Not sure who replaces him in the league currently (LHD or RHD) . There is certainly no Leaf that can replace that role. I feel we need to find some way to replace Muzzin but....what current dman in the league born around 1992 that is 6'3"+ 217+ lbs who plays physical and scores at a 0,5 ppg pace while being signed for around $5.0 MIL this year and next?

And who do we move to get that fiction dman?
- Rielly has struggled on and off for a few years (not sure what the advanced stats say) but now has a NMC for 8 years at $7.5 MIL. He's not going anywhere.
- Giordano took a MASSIVE pay cut to play in TO and has been playing great. He's not going anywhere.
- Brodie is owed $7.5 MIL in real money next season and has an NTC. He's not going anywhere.
- Benn is a 6'2" LD that can play both sides on a league minimum contract. He's not going anywhere.
- Dubas just acquired 6'2" RD Timmins who is still under team control as an RFA. He's not going anywhere.
- Sandin and Liljegren are young with decent talent. They might be traded but being the youngest players in the top 6 by a country mile. I think they're not going anywhere.

That leaves UFA Holl on a rental contract to move but he might not get back his current value to the Leafs so I am not sure if he should be moved or not.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>Hyman is a good player but not worth his contract. Schenn is much worse than Holl and Kapanen is a defensive liability</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmins_Is_Eating_Tims</b></div><div>What do you mean he is not worth his contract. He has 20 goals and 27 assists for 47 points in 44 games and he isn't even playing with McDavid as of now. He plays on every unit. He kills penalties, scores on the Powerplay and has very solid 5 on 5 numbers. He is one of the hardest workers in the league. He takes away the puck. I actually will take a Hyman over anybody not named McDavid in the Oilers room. The only other person I would take in that room again not named McDavid is Neuge.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>Hyman gets the vast majority of his points due to McDavid. As he ages and moves lower in the lineup, he'll be a 30 point winger making 5.5 million.</div></div>

I agree with a lot that you post but I think you are mistaken here. He will be 35 when his contract season is done...and about to turn 36 that June admittedly...but his relentless puck retrieval, skating and physical engagement has NOTHING to do with McDavid. Like Timmins pointed out he is already at 20 goals, is at over a ppg, has over a hit a game for HALF the contract of Tavares. Hyman was still trending up as a Leaf and was rumoured to be willing to take $5 MIL a season with the Leafs. Hyman and Bunting on the top 2 lines would have been great with the Core 4.

Very few UFA players have I wished that Dubas kept. Hyman is one of them though.
