Finally
Blues thank Ryan Johansen for depressing the overpaid 2C center market.
This seems wildly different from the 25 OA trade that was going to get Hayes. Are Blues fans happy Krug didn’t waive his NTC?

I really like how aggressive Briere is getting in trades. Gotta respect the hustle in getting a third first round pick. It’s been a long time since Philly’s made good trades.

Great trade from Arizona. No way they were going to use all 4 of their 2024 2nds. It made sense to buy a U25 Dman with Top 4 upside.

Trotz may not be as smart as I thought
Colorado made out nice in this deal. It doesn’t come without its risks though. They are hoping RoJo to bounce back and be the 2C that they need, but a 4M 3C isn’t the worst either.
Would’ve liked to see Nashville get a pick back (even if it was just a 7th), but it shows how much it costs to move cap space in this league. Lastly, I hope Nashville doesn’t use their cap space to go spend big on a 1C. There is some serious talent in the draft and I think if they can snag Oliver Moore (whether they trade up or he falls), he could be that 1C for the Preds.

New Jersey Devils signed Erik Haula (3 Years / $3,150,000 AAV)
Haula left at least 1 million on the table. Really happy to see him return.
The third year may be a concern, but it’s a contract that shouldn’t hamper your team. Good business from Fitzy.

I think if I am a Sabres fan and I am eyeing up the Bruins for a trade. The one player I am targeting the most is Brandon Carlo. Sabres need a partner for Power and a RHD in their Top 4.

Personally, I think it would be a mistake to trade Bahl, especially since the Devils are in a competitive window. It is a good thing when you have role players on ELCs/2nd contracts and the only reason you would trade them is if you are getting an offer that is too good to pass up (ex. when the Devils traded Coleman) or you are acquiring a really good cost controlled player that justifies including Bahl in a trade.
Given that Krav is in Russia for multiple years (will he return?) and adding a few mid round picks is not enough to justify letting him go.

Devils accept. I’ve mocked Blackwood to the Isles in the past, but they said Varlamov is returning and it doesn’t make sense. Given your cap, you may have to find a cheaper backup. Lou loves former Devils and it makes sense to acquire him.

Starting price for Bahl is a 1st round pick or 2nd +. It would take a monster offer to move him and he’s an important role player moving forward for the Devils.

I love Kyle Connor, but Winnipeg doesn’t take this package. Plus, we don’t have cap space for Connor and need to address the bottom six and a veteran stop gap.

Could I see the Blackhawks buying Sharangovich? Honestly, yes.
Do I think they should? Probably not the right time to buy players. The Blackhawks need to suck for at least 2 more years before they can start to turn the corner.

Lets try
I don’t mind Brodie on the third pair, but I’m not paying a 2nd to have him for one year. Also, you’re forgetting to send a draft pick to acquire Graves rights. Many teams are calling for Ryan Graves.
That being said, if you’re adding Graves and Pesce to the Top 4, you’re going to need to free up cap space. That makes Brodie a cap dump and the return will be pedestrian.

Plus, It’s likely you’re going to have to pay to move Mantha’s contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Anus_McLeod</b></div><div>I think Colorado either lands a big fish 2C or keeps that pick, but I get where you're coming from. Personally, I think Olausson is more high risk high reward and could be a 2RW or a nothing burger. I'm any case, he's still a year away at best, and Colorado needs help asap. It's a good trade for the Avs imo. Not sure if it is for NJ, but I think it's at least in the neighborhood.</div></div>
That’s the thing. It’s great for Colorado, but I don’t see how NJ makes out. I would do Olausson for Sharangovich if I believed Olausson could reach what Sharangovich is/was now. Fitz in the presser said he was looking to trade into the first and Sharangovich is his best trade chip.
Fwiw, he did outproduce Brandon Hagel in 21-22. It’s his first season where he wasn’t on pace for 20G. Shows what he’s capable of if you have the right system and linemates for him.
Edit: FWIW Olausson does remind me of Nolan Foote (who was another late 1st round pick). Wicked shot, size, but has massive holes in his game and a very long development curve.

I would much rather put Yegor Sharangovich in a package for 27OA. We have plenty of prospects who could break into the bottom six, which is what I see Olausson panning out to be. Also, you could use some ELC players, so trading Olausson doesn’t really make too much sense from an Avs perspective either?

Interesting offer. Do you think we could trade into the BOS 1st with Sharangovich + CGY 3rd or give us Matt Murray’s contract alongside BOS 1st.
Edit: Seen a lot of Pens ACGMs throwing a 2nd + and I think it’s his trade value, will go for more than Greenway.

I would rather have another pick than Ben Meyers. Given how the Avs are a team built on transition and speed, it suits Yegor’s game very well.
Price: 2nd Round Pick + 3rd/4th
Or Yegor Sharangovich + 3rd round pick for Pick #27
Edit: also a good add cuz the Avs lost a lot of secondary scoring after the cup. Could use some back and his next contract won’t break your team

I think Hawks would accept take it if you replace Lafferty with Nick Robertson.
So something like…
TOR
- Mackenzie Entwistle
- 2023 2nd Round Pick (Pick #44/OTT) (if no Robertson then Pick #55/NYR)
CHI
- Matt Murray
- Nick Robertson
- 2024 1st Round Pick (TOR)

Oil country adding playoffs experience and creating cap space
I don’t mind taking on Cody Cecil’s contract. He fits a need as a Stop Gap defensemen. I like his stay at home ability, and he will be very useful on the penalty kill.
My issue is the price. Paying a 3rd plus two replacement level role players on cheap cap hits isn’t something I like very much. He is viewed as a cap dump and I think the return will be less than desirable.
