Small Changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SupremeBone</b></div><div>I disagree. Carson Soucy is a pretty great analogue for Zadorov (big, physical LD averaging ~17mins with some offense) and you guys just signed him for 3.25mil last year. The difference between them isn't 1.75mil and 2 years of term.</div></div>
I agree to an certain extent. Zadorov is more physical then Soucy but Soucy is more balanced. I do think if he wants term the cap hit should come down. I do think a 5 year deal should be 4-4.5m tops. But with other gms thinking he is the solution may push it to 5m.

And yet, regardless of where you try to trade him, his no movement clause will prevent you from doing anything. Not to mention, he kills Montreal whenever he plays them, why would he want to be traded there?

5*5 would be a massive contract for a guy averaging 17 mins/night. As an EDM fan, I'd love VAN to sign him to that contract.

My Take
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>athrin</b></div><div>ya pulock has bad defensive metrics. no thanks picks are meaningless 3rd and 4th round.
Norris is far far better than pageau <strong>when he is healthy</strong></div></div>
at this point in time, that is one hell of a caveat for a guy getting paid nearly $48M over the next 6 years.
i honestly wouldn't do this trade if I were running the Islanders. He's missed 106 games over the past two seasons and who even knows if that shoulder holds up after the third major surgery on it. He's too big of a gamble to take based on the term and cap hit you'd be looking at.

Norris is also getting paid 3mil more for 5 more years than Pageau. Plus he's extremely injury prone. I wouldn't want to touch him at all

They decline a long term upgraded RHD, slightly overpaid defensive center and some picks for 1 year of a LHD and 8mil of long term Norris who so far seems overpaid? Not even bringing Norris' health into the discussion.

I think OP means that if DeBrusk signs a 2yr now and then a 7yr afterwards for the same AAV, he could extend his 'contract' by 2 additional years. I could be mistaken, however, since that carries a lot of risk and assumptions.

Just a few things here.
DeBrusk will probably get more than 2 years on his deal, I suspect he will be looking for 5-7 years if he hits the UFA market. I am also hoping for a more drastic change than this, especially if we want to compete come playoff time next year, with McDavid and Draisaitls contracts coming to an end. An upgrade on Ceci would be preferable, and same as Pickard, unless one of Rodrigue, or Ungar impresses, and makes the jump to the NHL.

He's not, he's including the bonus overages that hit the oilers next season from his contract this season. 3.25 million in overages next year means he actually signed him for league minimum

Younger
The Leafs have traded away so many picks and youngsters that it has been so difficult getting a younger team. Instead of having players on ELCs, every year the Leafs scramble to get aging veterans to fill the rosters at about 800,000.
Looks like Cowan and Minten will be Leafs, but it shouldn't be in October. Let him be pros with the Marlies. If they are good enough to be called up, good for them, but a full season or near full season with the Marlies is probably the most likely and best scenario.
Your lineup....Holmberg as earned a spot. Brodie won't be Leafs and neither will Roy, so that's 8m to spend two other UFA Dmen. Domi or someone at about 3.25 is needed at centre. Jarnkrok is a winger.

So much potential wasted
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BruceBanner</b></div><div>I don't think adding stammers makes them a better team. I honestly don't know what this team needs. Where do you break it apart?</div></div>
Its all in deployment and structure from coaching. The team is playing to how the coach wants to play his game and more development style than trying to make a system to play to the team's strenghts. For example Severson is badly effected by this. He's a great first pass dman but with the team's current breakout structure you can't take advantage of his ability to take advantage of his stretch passes he was known for in NJ (well really it was blown plays but it wasnt as bad as devils fans made it out to be).
There is talent on this team but the kids are not seasoned enough yet and not playing to the team's strengths. Its a team right now but not a "team". We need someone to come into here and make an identity for Columbus to play its game like Florida did lately. People meme that "could be spooky in a season or two" but I really think Columbus has the potential to have a Canucks style turnaround soon but we just need someone to unlock that potential.

CBJ had many years of poor management under Davidson and their previous GM. Gonna take time (and luck) to unravel the mess they left behind.

This reminds me of Edmonton before McDavid. Tons of top draft talent, but not coming together in the right way. I think Fantilli is the right guy to build around, but you need more vets in the top 6 who do not take nights off.
Consider a trade for a player like Travis Konecny in the offseason (provided he is willing to sign an extension), and get Laine off your team even if you have to dump him.

Next Year Sharks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BruceBanner</b></div><div>Honestly don't know Thrun, Gushchin, Shakir trajectories or development, but Sharks need internal competition for these guys to be successful and not presume they just are in the nhl because there is nobody else.</div></div>
While that's true, it would be crazy to give out long term to guys who would be in severe decline at high $ when SJ's beginning to be competitive again. They should be doing 1-3 year contracts at 1.5-1.75x their market value for UFA's like these. Get a couple vets like Henrique or Tanev (or specifically ones who might want a quick payday and dont care about a cup rn) on a 6,7m year deal for a year or two.
