<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>Not really here to debate your takes but putting a guy as the third best player in the league when he's allergic to zone starts outside of the offensive zone while claiming another high-calibre player as overrated, with the most common criticism surrounding him being "a good offensive player only" seems, I don't know, tonedeaf?</div></div>
Complaining about a guy being ranked third because of offensive zone starts (20% of his starts are in the o-zone), while not acknowledging that McDavid (22%), Pasta (25.5%), and Mackinnon (25.8%) isn't really a good debate to start with. Both guys sandwiching him are ranked in the top 8 for O-Zone start % and hughes doesn't make the top 75. Panarin is 117th.
If you rank 5v5 starts McDavid, Pasta and Mackinnon all are in the top 11 with around 20% of their starts being ozone starts. Hughes is 158th, with 14.3% of his starts being in the ozone, and 14.3% in the neutral zone.
Hughes takes all of his shifts on the fly, I would also like to comment that none of those other Centers have a Selke level defender and the captain or the number one faceoff man in the league almost to take Dzone draws.
IDK, id say its hard to call him tonedeaf on that argument alone. but thats just me.

If Hughes has 26 games under his belt he would have 48 maybe 50 points already. He has been about a 2 point per game player this year. and i know is shows 1.83 and he has 33 points in 18, but one of those games he played under 4 minutes because of the injury.
Edit: Hughes is on pace (taking out the 6 games he was injured and didn't play) for 147 points in 76 games, Kucherov is on pace for 138 in 82.

Its a statistical model, that doesn't have any ability to grasp fluctuation of skill or development of a persons skills. its a horrible list but still fun to looks at...the fact its sorted by projection and not actual is so annoying.

I agree with Bedard but Quinn #1 is just recency bias. Jack still is averaging 2 points per game and would be number 1 in my mind if he didn't get injured. He would for sure be still top of the art ross and hart trophy race if he hadn't got injured. Not convinced he isn't still #1 in Hart.

I don't think Levi is the player to trade for Saros. Buffalo shouldn't give him up, AND Nashville won't need him as much as a forward prospect. I'd trade Rosen or Ostlund or someone like that. Nashville won't need him because of Askarov.

Peterka has 6 goals...which is top 6 in this age group...probably would put him on this list.
Seth Jarvis is tied with Raymond for RW as well.
Joel Hofer should be the goalie...guy scores goals in the AHL.

2023-24 NHL Season Discussion Thread #1: Here we Go!
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yikes</b></div><div>:sharks
Fun-Tanking-Fact of the Day!
The San Jose Sharks have a produced a total of 48 points as a team (53 - 5 of Addison points which all came from the Wild).
44% of those points come from their top line;
Eklund - Hertl - Zetterlund (21 points)
The rest of their team had a combined 27 points (20 players! 6 of which have no points).
Elias Pettersson has 25 points which out scores their top line, but is 2 points shy of technically being more productive then basically an entire team minus their only actual NHL top 6 caliber line. Realistically he would probably beat an entire roster of Sharks by himself if Eklund, Hertl, Zetterlund, Couture and Addison sat and his own team only played defence.
That would look like;
Zadina - Granlund - Duclair
Barabanov - Strum - Labanc
Hoffman - Carpenter - Kunin
Lindblom - GSmith - Macdonald
Ferraro - Burroughs
Knyzhov - Emberson
Okhotiok - Rutta
Vlasic - Benning
Goalies
Vs
Pettersson
When you view the roster this way it’s laughably an obnoxious tank of a roster. Held together by a few players and Blackwood.
The Sharks call up Gushchin who has 58 points in 82 AHL games. He has played 2 NHL games before, recording 2 points.
Gushchin hasn’t played an NHL game this season yet if we for fun consider his 2 NHL points; he is out scoring 17 current Sharks skaters performances so far this year.</div></div>
The Hughes Brothers points totals vs the sharks this year could be a fun race.

Yeah, McTavish is a beast, and Leo as well. Cozens Kulich and Thompson are great, Leo does probably have the highest ceiling, but hard to argue against cozens ceiling as well. IMO the difference make for buffalo is having 2 of the top 5-10 Dmen in the league for the next 10 years.

how about your stars disappearing at 5v5, and relying heavily on space and the power play. and goaltending.

We don't really need a top 4 d, we need a consistent bottom pair at 5v5. Dahlin carries anyone on line 1, and Power has been unbelievable on the second pair with anyone he plays with.
