That forward core is nuts, but you have to think that they would rather spend those resources going after a top tier defenseman.

I'm not going to fully disagree with you. I thought showed vast improvements last year so I could see them giving him a shot. I think they will use Ego to mentor one of the rookies much the same way that he did with Theodore.

McNabb/Schmidt
Merrill/Theodore
Coghlan/Engelland
Holden 7th
Gallant has said he likes both Schmidt and Theodore on the right side.

Last year. This year could be another story. Miller is gone which takes away a RD. Holden is a liability and is a left handed RD. Schmidt is another left handed RD. Engelland showed signs of slowing down last year and he is the only right handed defensemen on the the roster right now. They do have the rookies but who knows how well any of them will do. They are strong as hell on the left side but it's hard to deny that there are some questions on the right.

They really need another right shot D. It's their weakest spot on the roster. If they think that Tuch is in a good spot to move up, I don't think its outta the realm of possibility.
And for the record, no I don't want to move Smith for anyone, but I see where it could happen. If I wanted to move anyone it would be Holden. If Merrill starts stinking up the place to start the season you could add him to the list.

I like the idea, but think ERod should take the 4c spot with Nosek at 3LW and Carrier at 4LW. There are two red flags for me though. 1. Swapping expiring contracts in ERod and Eakin. 2. Smiths M-NTC. I think the chances that Buffalo are on there is good.

Haha Vegas doesn't have a good history of sending Russians to Chicago. The other problem is that they would have to stash him there at the beginning of the season and hope no one gets hurt. He's been picked off of waivers once, can't guarantee that it won't happen again.

Not a horrible idea, but that would almost assure that Glass stays in Chicago this year, making Zykov the odd forward out. If Glass doesn't impress enough to snatch his spot, I'd be behind it.

An outside look of VGS line-up - am I far off
I see Eakin at 4C, Glass at 3C and Pirri/Nosek rotating on 3LW. I think Glass is ready, but he could prove everyone wrong in the preseason. I don't think one more season in Chicago would be the end of the world, especially with the fact that Eakin is on the last year of this deal and Glass could step in next season, but you also don't want to wait too long. If he's ready, play him. I don't necessarily like Eakin on the fourth line, but I think he would be a good fit there. He busts six on both ends and could make up in the speed and gas tank department where Reavo lacks. I'd love to see Marchy and Stone on the same line based off of how they played at worlds this year, probably with swapping Stone and Smith.
The defense is friggin tricky. I'd have Theodore/Schmidt, McNabb/Whitecloud-Coghlan, Merrill/Engelland-Holden. Trading away Miller stripped em on the right side and Engo isn't getting any younger. I think there are going to be a lot of different set ups there as Shea-Engo and McNabb-Schmidt have always played well together. Who gets the call up is also going to be something. I lean towards Whitecloud or Coghlan with them being right hand shots and I have the same left hand right hand mentality as you. The only other right hand shot on the roster is Engo, but I see him as being a scratch option with Holden at the 7D spot. Holden didn't impress last year and I wouldn't be heartbroken if he was traded. I thought Merrill did impress last year and showed great improvements, but if he shows regression, I wouldn't be surprised if Hague or Schuldt was called up and he was moved out as well.
One other thing that intrigues me is the backup goalie spot. Bringing in Sparks this off season I think gave Subban some competition. If Subban doesn't step his game up, you could see Sparks backing up Fluery this year. Hell, you could even see Subban start the year in Chicago.

I've heard Whitecloud has stood out in the prospect games as well. I'd rather have either of those two over Schuldt or Hague and I've got high hopes for Hague. They just desperately need another right handed dman on the roster seeing as the only one they have there right now could end up being the 7th man out throughout the season.

Considering that the pieces are Russel/PoolParty and Smith, I get why he went this route. Also, good pick in going with Merrill over Holdin. He showed a lot of improvement last year.
I think this is a really bad trade for Vegas though.
-This promotes Tuch to top 6 and doesn't guarantee Poolparty the minutes he wants so theres a chance he stays overseas.
-Vegas loses the that Marchy/Wild Bill/Smith top line that has been killer for them. No guarantee that Tuch meshes as well with them.
-Vegas does not need another left handed dman. The one right hander they have on the main roster is 37 and probably looking at being scratched a bit this year.
On the plus side they do get a 4C that gives Glass another year to cook in Chicago and Russel is a slight upgrade, just not major. I'm also not sold that the 1st is enough to make it worth it for Vegas.
I visualize things

Would need a RD rather than another LD. That and the value isn't there for Tuch. Too much upside and they've already invested in him enough to show that they want him around for a while. I would rather see Smith in this if it were to happen.

Why do you think so? Is it the picks involved? Vegas already has two back ups with Sparks and Subban so Subs going makes sense and I think Blackwood has decent upside. The question is if Zacha will live up to what they want him too. The flip side is that without the picks NJ is getting back two rentals, one of which has had mixed success as a back up.

You're probably looking at Eakin and Reavo going as well. Also, if they wanted to stir the pot and go after a dman, he would probably be right handed. See Charlie McAvoy or Brandon Carlo.
