<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>Yeah, it's super easy to trade bad contracts that no one wants</div></div>
Oh yeah, trading a 2nd pairing pairing defenseman who’s top 10 in the league at leading the rush is going to be super hard. His advanced stats are a result of being saddled with boychuk in trotz system. There will likely be multiple GM’s interested in Leddy due to his flashy skill set and even if we did have to add a mid rd pick (highly unlikely) so be it. GM’s also like players on good teams , he won’t be hard to move.
Bailey is a consistent 50 pt winger and has 17 pts in 16 playoff games. Recency bias would definitely be a factor. He would be the easiest player to move.
Cizikas is one of the best 3Cs in the league with 1 year left on his contract.
It seems like you’re eager to see things hit the fan, even if that’s most likely not going to happen.

Retaining on Hutton only makes sense if you’re getting more assets back. Why burn money in a year when no one else has any just to do someone else a favor, especially when they screwed you a year ago? This is your chance to really put the screws to them and extort assets they do not want to give you. If you want them to retain on Hutton you’re adding to the deal. The gun is to your head, not theirs.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Buffsbrain</b></div><div>I guess but at the same time I'd rather make sure the guys we have on offense who can score stay. If Devon does a bridge deal then leaves, hypothetically, if Wilde and Dobson are still here it hurts less than Beau leaving, again hypothetically. I don't think Toews is our best D man but I would like to see him develop his skating ability to show some more offensive production, which rn I have no reason to doubt will happen but personally I'd give him the contract after that has developed a little more</div></div>
In this scenario that I’ve locked him up for 7 years, we can still afford beauvillier next offseason because bailey and boychuk are gone.. Cizikas comes off the books Next offseason , clutterbuck will likely be bought out, and varly will be traded. That leaves us with more than enough to retain beau.
Toews is by far our best offensive defenseman right now, and there’s 100 game sample size to prove that. Pulock is a very distant 2nd , no one drives offense better than toews. He’s earned a long term deal, id rather sign him long term now than have to pay him over 7 mill to keep him if he gets a short term deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Buffsbrain</b></div><div>what would Domi's new contract look like?</div></div>
I think he is getting some sort of bridge deal. I dont think anyone will want to be locking him up long term just give the downturn this year.
I would think something in the range of 2-3 years 4-4.5 mil. Fits for the Islanders current needs which is freeing up as much cap space as possible to sign Barzal.

If I'm the Isles I'd keep the first, the right side of their D is set for a long time if/when Pulock signs long term and they play Dobson
From Ottawa's perspective I think they'd rather have two NHL ready players rather than a late 1st round pick and Boychuk is only owed 8 million (instead of 12) for the last 2 years of his deal since it was front-loaded. Cap hit really shouldn't matter for them.
So they get 2 NHL caliber young players and a top 6 RHD for basically nothing

Did you see the deal? They are paying NYR to take Stepan. Lias is a complete bust and probably never plays in the NHL again. Strome is only signing a 1 year deal or 6+. There is no way he signs a 2 year deal that eats a UFA year.

Fair. That and he'd actually report and play and not require us to buy him out but still it's a lot of cash to pay out and I don't think ownership will be on board to pay that for what Leddy would bring.

Funny enough though, thats what with Vesey. Buffalo acquired his rights from Nashville and then he ended up signing w/ New York. New York 3 years later traded him to Buffalo lol. In total Buffalo paid a pair of 3rd rounders for Vesey
