Another Rossi Idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>You traded young dman Romanov to get Dach</div></div>
That trade was explicitly made because of the current management's opinion of Guhle. Montreal doesn't have a D prospect who replaces what Guhle provides, whereas Guhle did replace what Romanov provided.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EvanW711</b></div><div>I was under the impression from Habs fans online that their biggest need was Wingers. But youre right they could do anything with that pick</div></div>
Montreal's biggest need is probably center, but forwards is applicable because they have guys who play both positions. Specifically they want size and elite offensive talent. But that's also the tiebreaker when drafting.
Either way, Calgary doesn't really have the ability to make the trade without overpaying in futures.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EvanW711</b></div><div>What do you think MTL would want for their 1st? They'd be using that pick to get a winger and would be getting 2 in this trade, Kuzy is a top 6 winger right now and coronato has the potential to become one as well.</div></div>
People thought Montreal would take a center with their 2022 1st and a forward with their 2023 1st. No one knows exactly who Montreal will use that pick for.
They're obviously not going to even consider moving that pick for a rental winger with big question marks and an undersized prospect/young NHLer that hasn't done much yet and doesn't address a need for Montreal. Realistically, the only thing Calgary could offer for Montreal's 2024 1st is their own plus future(s) that would address a need for Montreal and the quality of which would be painful to give up.

Lets hear it
-Edmonton has almost no cap flexibility next offseason (less than 10 mil to fill 6-9 spots). Jarnkrok has too much term at a non-buriable cap-hit to make sense for them.
-Saros is both a better goalie than Kuemper was and is better regarded, Nashville would probably need a better offer (and will likely get one)
-I doubt Montreal would be interested enough in Cowan to make that move.

Not sure man
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JackSC87</b></div><div>My reason mostly involves similar reasons for departing with Edmunsson last year. MTL has a lot of young dmen coming up who needs time to develop, and by the time they're a competing team Savard is likely a highly depreciated asset. Of course, Savard is better than Edmunsson so he will more than likely get a better return then what I chose here but who knows for sure I just thought that a vet defensive dman might help someone like Graves get back on his game.</div></div>
Montreal values Savard more than Edmundson, especially since their LD depth was/is much greater than RD depth. Montreal was also in a position where they also needed the cap space flexibility last offseason, which they don't this offseason. Its not really worth it for Montreal just from a retention standpoint unless they REALLY like Lucius, let alone moving Savard.

Holtz Rossi Guhle three way
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Here's my question: do we know that the Habs are definitely thinking 2C with their 24 1st? I'm genuinely asking to learn the answer you guys surely know better than me.</div></div>
I'll answer. At the press conference after Montreal's season finished, Montreal's GM heavily hinted that, all things being equal, they'd go forward over defenseman (i.e. if they think the prospects are close, they'll go forward). That doesn't necessarily mean center, but they like guys who can play center.
I don't think that has anything to do with why Montreal wouldn't look at acquiring a guy like Rossi though. They have young players who can and have played center already, they just need them to get healthy (Dach) and maintain (and continue) their growth (Newhook). Rossi doesn't make sense for Montreal as a trade target.

Even if they don't, Montreal can't really move Guhle right now as they don't have a replacement.
This deal seems to make even less sense to the Wild though.

Continue Rebuild
You could take out every piece Montreal is sending and they still would block Briere's number. Taking on Couturier's contract is an awful idea and he doesn't fit what Montreal needs/wants at all.
Honestly, the Dallas, Buffalo and Montreal deals are way off.

Blues and Montreal fans thoughts
Hate it from a Montreal perspective. Not only do I prefer around 2-4 forwards in the draft to Snuggerud, I'd rather just take the D-man and try to trade for a prospect that better fits Montreal's needs than Snuggerud.
You're also severely underestimating how long D usually take to develop if you think any from this draft will be a top pair D in 1 to 2 years.

I'm not actually sure McGroarty rises given the growth of some guys taken after him (Yurov, Kulich, Poitras, etc.). And the 2022 draft is also weaker than the 2023.
And under no circumstances does this make sense for both teams. Montreal wants Reinbacher as a RD anchor, they're not going to move him for a winger.

Off season 5
-Mangiapane doesn't return anywhere close to a Kulich-caliber prospect. He's the kind of guy who probably has more value next deadline as a rental (after a good season), than an offseason trade.
-Montreal's probably open to trading a D like Harris, but its highly unlikely it would be for a prospect like Kerins or a late pick they don't need.
-I'm lower than Chabot than most, but that's a terrible trade for Ottawa. Kuzmenko was a cap dump a few months ago, him retained and Markstrom doesn't get Chabot and a top 10 pick.

Montreal's also not trading a 1st for Krebs either.
Carolina probably also isn't going to trade Drury for Jokiharju.
I'm not sure that any of this aggressive either, its mostly making trades that benefit the Sabres more than other teams and mitigating almost all risks to the Sabres.

Team's don't "turn a corner" by paying for bottom 6 guys. And Montreal has a lot of guys who can play center lower down in the lineup, they just need to get healthy. What Montreal actually needs is more guys who can play higher in the lineup.
There would likely be teams who would pay that for Roy, I just can't see Montreal doing that.
