How are performance bonuses handled when traded?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CBA</b></div><div>Performance Bonuses are paid to a player if the requirements of the bonus are met, and are given over the course of the season as they are met.</div></div>
They are paid as they are achieved, presumably by the team that player is on when the bonus hits.
Bonus overages are just the cap hit incurred by those milestones being hit throughout the season if the team in question runs out of cap space throughout the season to accommodate for those bonuses.

How do the Leafs make it work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>Driedger is coming off a lot of injuries in Seattle. We'll see how the rest of his season goes but he's someone I'd keep an eye on who might want a bigger spotlight on a short term deal. Really though there are a ton of 'B' level goalies who are UFAs next season. There will be a lot of options. Mrazek, Driedger, Francouz, Lankinen, DeSmith, Brossoit, Nedeljkovic, Raanta, Stolarz, Talbot, Wedgewood, Quick if he wants another go. Hell, even Jones has been a serviceable goalie so far this year if he wants to stick around for another one. I think it's more who will make the cap work rather than who the goalie will be.</div></div>
Jones is a saviour…pun intended…at the moment. Perfect 2/3G behind Woll…plus Hildeby is waiver exempt…hope he plays tomorrow…Samsonov bounces back next year but not on the Leafs

Good comparables for Zadorov
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>Well again, half a dozen teams have said that same thing. Habs fans said it for Edmundson, Vancouver fans for Schenn, etc. People seem to miss that Chiarot was considered by GMs as a minute eating guy. He was playing 24 minutes a night in Montreal, their top penalty killer, facing the tough competition, etc, and had gone to the cup final doing so. Guys like Edmundson, Schenn and Zadorov aren't that. These 3rd pairing 'big, physical' guys haven't been getting that kind of return, they haven't been worth more just because Chiarot was.</div></div>
Well, you were right. Glad to be wrong and hopefully it means other big defensemen won't bring back ridiculous returns.

I'd think Edmundson is the closest comparable but I think Zadorov would go for a bit more. 2nd plus prospect/bottom 6 roster player

Lineup without Pinto
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>That Top-6 and Top-4 is pretty sick and among the best in the NHL, don’t listen to the noise. Greig and Brannstrom are also quite good for the role they‘ll play. Kubalik and Joseph are not perfect but many teams have worse as 8th and 9th forwards… now imagine adding Pinto to all that
Management and coaching is still terrible though, only thing holding them back
When there will be a coaching change, this team will take off seriously and never look back. 100+ pts per season every year</div></div>
So the management that assembled and the coaching that developed that "sick" top 6 and top 4 are terrible?
Dorian and the people he put in place have acquired every player on this team. DJ and his staff have developed them. It's not easy. Just look at teams that whiff on top picks, or even 1OA, because either it was a misjudgment of talent or development.
I don't get fans that say those two are the worst yet praise the product they created. The mental gymnastics they must do to justify that DJ and PD have nothing to do with it.
Are they the best? Nope. But they certainly aren't the worst. I don't see which elite coach is currently available that is miles better than DJ. Shoulda made a play for Cassidy when he was available, but alas, the Melnyk estate would not have ponied up the money for him. And looking at the coaches that were hired this off season, my guess is that not many elite coaches were available.

Not bad, actually. The only big misses here were CGY, SEA, NJ and WAS. Otherwise he generally had the better teams in the top half and the worse teams in the bottom half.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>Because the Sabres are being patient and planning for the future while the Sens are paying big to be good now. Look at the expected path for these teams going forward. The Sabres are likely going to be the class of the Atlantic in 3 or 4 seasons if they are patient now. Ottawa is paying 1sts every year to be the 4th-6th best team in the division and are likely to get passed by Detroit, Buffalo and Montreal as the teams above them come down from their highs. Ottawa is going in on the next 2 or 3 seasons while Buffalo is playing a game where they will be very good for a much longer time.</div></div>

Monahan
That isn't how value works - Monahan is what he is and has his own value; what he is is an oft-injured player that hasn't been good for years. Don't tell about his 17 points in 25 games this season - that's a small sample size nobody in their right mind is trading a 1st or even a good prospect for. You got a 1st for taking him on, you aren't getting another one for someone to take him on, retention or not.

After the madness
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>Montembeault has had the performance to warrant trade interest. Jake Allen hasn't and has an awful contract going forward. The Leafs could find a better backup elsewhere for this price and not have the future liability to go with it.
You are trying to hide bad deals with trading 2nd round picks back but those Monahan and Allen deals are still awful for the teams. Dadonov doesn't have any value either, Drouin probably doesn't either. Basically you are trying to offload your trash and expecting decent returns for some of it. Not going to happen.</div></div>
Hey. I know you probably don't believe this, but as of about 1 month ago I would have agreed on Dadonov & Drouin. But the past month they have been really good and most of the teams I've suggested 4th & 5th rounders to for those guys at 50% retention gave agreed those are deals they would consider.
I appreciate your feedback on Allen. If the deal is not interesting for you, no worries. I was simply speculating that moving back 5-15 spots in this draft is not that big a deal for a contender. I know Monty has been good, but he's a lot more unproven then Allen which is why I think most teams would be scared to trade for him.
Not trying to troll Leafs fans or anything like that. I genuinely want a Canadian team, ANY Canadian team, to win the cup. I like the Leafs and I think Allen has been Amazing in the meetings between the Leafs and Habs this year and has stepped up in all the games where the Habs are severe underdogs.
