2nd round pick Offer sheet options
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>The 3rd they got back is for 2022, it wouldn’t be used in an offersheet because they would have already used the puck in the draft.
I focused on 2nd round picks because that’s the compensation $4 million.
Yeah I agree. I think I would be willing to go that high on liljegren (I’m very high on him) and puljujarvi. Worth doing if you can add a cornerstone piece</div></div>
NHL draft is July 7th, free agency is July 1st. The rumour is the Canucks acquired the 3rd to make a 4-6 mil offer sheet to someone. These low level 2nd round type compensation picks are just too easy to match in my opinion. I don't think you piss off a team for a depth piece. My opinion is none of these are possible or realistic but decent stable of players.

Leafs vs Panther in a playoff series
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>I'd go the other way
Offense - Florida, they have much better depth scoring. More than enough to make up for the Leafs top line.
Defense - Toronto. Florida's top pair might be better but their bottom 4 is a gong show. Easily the biggest weakness on their team.
Goaltending - Who knows. Bob doesn't exactly have a strong playoff history.</div></div>
Fair point, we just have to see how Chairot does in Florida

The Great Leap Forward
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>Probably the next Zdeno Chara should be the hope, Big guy like Stanley who took awhile to get used to his size in the NHL.</div></div>
This is accurate. Something I fear if they move him. He shows flashes of absolute terror as a big man, but other times looks like he doesn’t want to use his size. But like you mentioned before, too much. DeMelo is likely worth a 2nd at most. He’d be a great partner for Rielly. He’s been great when he plays with Morrissey.

Severson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>While he went too low, you went way too high. You wouldn't get both Knies and Niemala. You are talking about a prospect much further down the depth charts for the Leafs to go with Niemala. Someone along the lines of a Tverberg or a Villeneuve.</div></div>
I somewhat agree with this
But this is what I see. Devils would want as much value for Severson as possible, Leafs want top 4 RD
Devils ask: 1st, Niemela, Knies
Leafs ask: 1st, 3rd, Holl
If a fair deal is done, I think it would be: 1st and Niemela

I think those are fair critiques. There is money left to fit both under the cap. However this was meant mainly to emphasize the squeeze the Leafs will be facing when it comes to filling out the roster.

Okay, then probably wouldn’t work then as Devils need a goalie yesterday.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Imagine875948</b></div><div>They will need to get to the cap floor next year and they can flip him at half retained for a decent amount of value</div></div>
In this scenario Pitt needs to clear cap. If that is the case Arizona has cap space and will exact some form of incentive to take on cap. Even though they have to meet the cap floor they have alot of open spots and need to get to 63.5 or so to meet the floor. Their are many teams that need to clear cap and that being the case other teams will pay to clear cap and Arizona will get picks, prospects or a combination to take bad cap, just not take it for nothing.

The West, especially the Pacific, is volatile. By "where they are" I meant the category of playoffs hopefuls. Personally, I think they should sell, and they even should have sold at the last deadline, but they could look to make a playoffs push.

I just can't take them seriously, unfortunately. I think there's a lot of great hockey blogs out there, that end up being fairly insightful, but from what I've read (and maybe I'm missing something...), THW articles are fan-driven speculation, that carries absolutely no weight, and rarely actually quote legitimate sources.
I absolutely agree that it's sometimes hard to have an actual conversation with people on here, but there's a number of folks that I enjoy interacting with. Gimme allllll the charts!!!

He no longer has the cap hit/term that would be the problem, now the gamble is down to a 850,000 cap hit (in this case). If he causes problems, taxi squad him.
We've already seen how badly Dubas wants a power forward with the contract he gave Ritchie, why not sign a forward we know can play and risk very little on it.</div></div>
Ya that’s why I said low risk high reward. He shouldn’t expect a lot of money on this contract because most contending teams are cap strapped. As a middle 6 winger he’d be really good on any team. Can the leafs afford him? I can see a contending team offering him 1.5 max

mayfield can play on the second pair and be perfectly acceptable, he’s just definitely not a top pair player (which is sadly the role he’s been forced into this season with pulock out). i don’t think it’s a first but a second and a third or maybe even two seconds would do it imo, they could prob even take holl back.
