<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>I see it as an issued that is mostly solved by the San Jose contract termination. He no longer has the cap hit/term that would be the problem, now the gamble is down to a 850,000 cap hit (in this case). If he causes problems, taxi squad him.
We've already seen how badly Dubas wants a power forward with the contract he gave Ritchie, why not sign a forward we know can play and risk very little on it.</div></div>
Ya that’s why I said low risk high reward. He shouldn’t expect a lot of money on this contract because most contending teams are cap strapped. As a middle 6 winger he’d be really good on any team. Can the leafs afford him? I can see a contending team offering him 1.5 max

mayfield can play on the second pair and be perfectly acceptable, he’s just definitely not a top pair player (which is sadly the role he’s been forced into this season with pulock out). i don’t think it’s a first but a second and a third or maybe even two seconds would do it imo, they could prob even take holl back.

Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>Why is Anaheim rebuilding again? They are 1st in the Pacific right now.</div></div>
Well, I guess it's more of a retool. Management seems to recognize that the Ducks aren't going to be contending for a Cup this year as Solomon said they are still in a rebuild. With valuable core players going to UFA status, this current conglomeration of the Ducks isn't worth trying to keep together given the age of the pieces.
Losing these pieces will definitely hurt them competing this year but it will set them up to really succeed when McTavish, Perrault, Zellweger, Thrun, and Pastujov break into the roster. It's not about just being in the playoffs, it's about setting up a team that can win within Zegras and Drysdale's primes. However, with the pieces still on the team, and players coming back from injury, I think this Ducks roster could still make the playoffs beating out one of SJ, WPG or NSH for a wild card spot.

Trading for Kane
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>The buyout is basically half that retained salary in most years. They have a year at 1.8 mil next year at 3.8 mil next year at 2.8 next year at 4.8 mil followed by 2 more years at 1.8. They pay 18 mil total but have 4 years at less cap hit then if they retained 3.5 Mil x 4 years.</div></div>
it would be 3.5 for 3 years vs the buy out that we pay for for 6 years with each of the first 3 years averaging out to 3.6 mil plus 3 more at 1.6. it would be more cost effective and logical to trade him 50% retained

Ya, If the .00000000001 percent chance that this trade happens. Just like any trade on ACGM. I think it would be Domingue instead of DeSmith. That’s what the articles say too.
Cause when Mrazek comes back healthy, the Leafs will most likely need to move DeSmith to the AHL. He won’t pass through waivers. But Domingue, has NHL experience and is probably an upgrade over Hutchinson/Woll and would probably be the Marlies starting goalie in the AHL over both too. And would probably pass through waivers when Mrazek is healthy.
And I’d take ZAR over Bunting and Ritchie everyday of the week. Especially playing a top 6 role. Ritchie has definitely proved he’s not a top 6. Bunting has played well in the top 6 role but I’d put my money on ZAR out producing him in Toronto’s top 6.

Typical capfriendly mob think analysis. Whatever the mob says is true. One give away by Engvall and he's horrible, Kerfoot doesn't score 60+ points he's terrible. Dermott isn't Rielly or Muzzin, he's terrible. Just silly

That is putting an awful lot of words into my mouth that I clearly am not saying. Dermott is a perfectly good 3rd pair defender. It really can't be argued, instead he isn't Rielly or muzzin so he sucks. Engvall does a tonne of stuff well but isn't a super star, so he sucks and nothing he does well matters. Same with Kerfoot. This is 100% the reality of the manic responses on this site. There is no true middle ground. As a Sabres fan you should understand this well enough by now. Look at Eichel, he's hurt and now it means he isn't a top 10 centre, he's barely a top 50 player. Its ridiculous.

That's a great point but I didn't say it was a perfect experiment. We can always compare it to his preseason play but I don't think people are gonna be convinced with that.
