A 3rd, WPG's second-best pick in 2025, is a bit steep for one year of Perbix. They have adequate options on the roster already.

They traded them for impact pieces, not to dump a contract.

Pionk has been horrible. I'd try to re-sign Miller and just trade Pionk for a 4th or something. Maybe to DET to replace Ghost.

WPG is pretty reliant on drafting and developing; they don't just throw around high picks. They're more likely to buyout Schmidt if they cant move him for a late pick or even FC.

Pretty sure WPG would rather use their two earliest draft picks for this year. Also, Manson NTC says no.

October 2024 no moves
Fetts-Lambo-Ehlers might be the softest line ever. A lotta skill there, but zero physicality or net front presence. Probably better off doing Scheif-KFC-Nik and Fetts-Lambo-Vilardi.
DiVencentiis is not ready for NHL. Likely a stint in ECHL if not still in OHL next season.

Getting better defensively
I've loved Iafallo this season. He's so good defenseively and can strip the puck off anyone! I feel like if WPG moved him, it would be purely to relieve salary, so I dunno how keen they'd be to retain even just $1M considering they might have to retain on/buyout Schmidt too.

Offseason
For the record, Schmidt isn't bad, his contract is. He's a good 3rd pair D with good defense metrics.
That's a freakin horrible trade for WPG. Trading the last year of a bad (yet serviceable) contract for three years of dead LTIR weight? Wtf.

Makes absolutely no sense for WPG to spend that many assets to dump Schmidt in his final year. They can easily retain half and get late pick back or just buy him out. They have enough bottom six players and dont need Nieto.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>:) Pretty much. It's a pretty large ask for a player the Jets don't need.</div></div>
Agreed. Chych would have to play on the right and OTT fans themselves have said he's horrible defensively on that side. Rather have Pionk and Schmidt there. And Fetts will be great in years to come - he needs this adversity right now to help him get there.

Jets Cup Contender
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>Actually, if the Jets are in a win now mode that is a good trade for both teams.
For the Jets:
Stanley has only played 7 games since the beginning of the season so he is spending a lot of time in the press box, while Johnson would add playoff experience even if he only practiced with the team.
Iafallo has not worked out as well as expected IMO and Okposo is out producing him comparing per 60 minutes: Goals 0.9 v 0.5, Pts 1.7 v.1.2 and Hits 4.3 v 1.7.
Remember Okposo is playing fourth line minutes and may still reach 15 to 16 goals.
That production from a fourth liner is money in the bank. Let's not undersell his value.
For the Sabres:
Alex gets to move back to his place of birth, he is younger than Kyle and he may bring the same energy that Tuch did playing for his home town team.
Stanley is a huge LHD, large players take longer to develop, and defensemen take even longer.
Granato likes to put large players on the PK, so while Buffalo is over loaded with LHD, he may fit Don's mold.
Over all:
The Jets make this deal to win today, the Sabres make this deal to win next season.</div></div>
Iafallo may not be scoring as much this year, but it's likely due to him playing all over place to cover for injuries. He's so versatile, great defensively and already knows the system. I'd rather keep him than trade for either or both of EJ and Okposo's potential 15 to 16 goals.

Jets Cup Contender
STL isn't retaining for 7 years, so count Parayko is out. Might be something there for Buch, but still a lot to work out.
BUF trade makes WPG absolutely worse. Trading Iafallo and Stanley for guys you're gonna healthy scratch anyway, what's the point? EJ and Okposo do nothing for WPG.
Schmidt is worth more to WPG than a... 7th?
Have you watched any Jets games at all this year?

Capitals are making a point to get younger
Agree with <strong>Feelers4Ehlers</strong> that Mantha would be a great add. I don't think his work ethic would be in question being playoff bound on a contract year.
Agree with <strong>Windjammer</strong> that Chevy would be more likely to trade picks (MTL 2nd and maybe a later pick to beat the market) over prospects, especially Stan and Chibs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NARC311</b></div><div>Not sure. But Demelo, Dillon, Perfetti are up this year. They could want to re-sign Monahan & The Schiefele & Helle extensions kick in</div></div>
Chevy will likely do everything in his power to keep a homegrown talent like Ehlers. WPG's top six would be sorely lacking without him. Schmidt would be off the books by the time Ehlers contract is up and I dont see them breaking the bank to re-sign Dillon. Appleton should also be expendable to make room for Nik's extension.
I can see Ehlers maybe getting moved for a top 4 RHD if that opportunity ever comes up, but that's it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vbolshakov</b></div><div>I think it's realistic based on recent trades and limited options available for contenders.</div></div>
WPG doesn't need either player from PIT tho. Schmidt's been a fine 3rd pairing D; can Joseph even play on the right? Eller might be fine on the 4th line, but isn't worth the MTL 2nd or losing either prospect for.
