Don't know about that, but I do know from our previous exchanges that I like him a whole lot more than you do. I will admit that for him to get 7+ M on his next contract he needs to crush it in the post season. We'll see on that.

The Ducks are not trading Gibson to end up with Bob. If the team doesn't want an old, expensive starter why would they maneuver into an even older, more expensive guy? That makes zero sense.
As far as Ekblad goes, he's 28 and one year away from being a UFA. He's the last type of player the Ducks would trade a 22 yr-old for. They'll take a rebuilding team approach this summer and either let the kids play or find a UFA to fill in the gap. I would throw a lot of money at Montour if I was in Verbeek's chair. I'd pay him a heck of a lot more than 5.5M that is for sure.

The retention slots open up with free agency on 7/1 so they couldn't trade Frankie retained at the draft even if they wanted to.

Not a big fan of either UFA signing. If the Ducks are going to shell out 9.5M they should target a real impact defenseman like Montour.

You have the Ducks miles below the cap floor. The Ducks need to spend Gibson's money on a goalie, either to Gibson or to someone else. For the crappy return of a 2nd and a 3rd Anaheim might as well not make that trade.
Also need to spend good money on at least one more defenseman, again just to hit the cap floor. Warren isn't going to be in the NHL that is for sure. I'd drop 7 or 8M on Montour personally if he'd sign that contract.

Zegras
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cory</b></div><div>Let's be honest though, Zegras, much like Vilardi gets hurt a lot. </div></div>
If by a lot you mean two injuries in three seasons, both happening this season. Then sure. Zegras gets hurt "a lot". First full season he played 75 games and second season 81. For cripes sake the guy plays an intense contact sport and broke his ankle doing so and you want to throw him under the bus for that? If that's your standard they should just shut down the league to protect all the fragile players like Zegras.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cory</b></div><div> the fact that you heard his name rumored a lot this season means Verbeek wants to move him.</div></div>
No, it means other teams want to acquire him. Verbeek is one of the most close mouthed GM's I've ever seen so none of the rumor stuff came out of Anaheim. It came from other places like Montreal.

ducks fans i have a question
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sens65</b></div><div>That's a lot to ask for for a goalie who has below league average stats for 5 straight seasons.</div></div>
The price of acquisition in part reflects that the Ducks need a guy capable of starting 50 game next season and maybe another season after that. I haven't looked at available UFA goalies but the track record of most of the guys signing starter contracts have blown up hard on teams in the past few years. Campbell, Korpisalo, Cal Petersen, Husso, Vanacek, etc. Trying to get a "free" guy via free agency has a lot of risk.
Or you go the trade for a starter route and part of the return for Gibson goes right back out the door to some other team. It's hard to come up with a Gibson trade where the Ducks actually come out as a better team because of the trade. It would be far easier and possibly cheaper asset-wise to just ride Gibson into the ground for another couple of seasons.

Offseason Series - Ducks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>Can he play it well enough to be a productive RD2? </div></div>
When LaCombe hits his peak, maybe. Right now definitely not (IMO). For a lot of the early parts of the season the Ducks threw the kid out on the right side of the top pair with Fowler and the pair struggled to say the least. The analytics of both are pretty brutal because of it.
They stopped doing that when it became obvious that it wasn't working. From the mid point of the season roughly LaCombe has played mostly the left side and they cut his minutes back. He's looked better in a more appropriate usage for his current development. I would say he still plays too many minutes in a lot of games. 25 against Minnesota a couple games back for example, but that's a function of the whole team being complete ass in that game.

Max Jones and Brett Leason are both better than Greer.
Hakanpaa isn't a signing that will happen because that's Tristan Luneau's spot to lose next camp. If the kid can't hack it full time they'll pluck a guy off waivers again (aka Gus Lindstrom).

You have zero chance of getting that retention from Anaheim so none of the things like trade value or NMC's matter.

Which side Harris plays is irrelevant. His handed-ness is what matters. The Ducks already have several left-shot guys playing the right side because the team has too many left-shot defenders and not enough righties.
Option three exists: Ducks don't trade Zegras at all. The Ducks don't want to trade him and he's under contract for two more years and an RFA after that.

An older, high AAV goalie coming back to Anaheim in a Gibson trade would need to have less term than Gibson. More term is the exact opposite of what the team wants.

I like Yager a lot but when you compare him to the Ducks 23-and-under forwards like Carlsson and McTavish and Gauthier he isn't in the same league. That's the best guy the Pens have and he's worse than the first three Ducks *forward* that popped into my head.
Pickering has middle pair upside. Good for the Pens I guess. Poulin barely rates as a prospect any more. Goalies are a bit of a wild card so maybe Blomqvist is the real deal and maybe he isn't.
I get that you wouldn't want to over pay for Vatrano with a 1st and Cowan. That's fine. The Ducks don't really want to trade Vatrano so it's all good.
EDIT - I should add that a big part of the price tag is the retention that you are asking for. The Ducks are small market, small revenue. To get them to pay Vatrano to play for the Leafs will cost. Drop the ask for retention and the price tag drops significantly IMO. Retention can't happen until the summer regardless.

Curious about cost
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jonas_Seagull</b></div><div>Cowan when Guentzel got no one that good?, ok Lesson I swear I saw healthy scratched until that game against Nashville where he scored but ok</div></div>
The Guentzel trade isn't a great comparable because what the Pens need are quite different than the Ducks. Bunting is a big piece of the value to Pittsburgh - he gives them a play-now roster replacement that isn't as good but maybe helps Crosby see the playoffs next year. The Ducks want all futures.
Also the Pens prospect pool is bone dry so getting multiple "ok" prospects is good business. The Ducks have a top end prospect pool. They need high end talent in a prospect or he literally would get buried by the guys they already have.
As far as Leason goes, yeah he's been a regular scratch but that was on a team that had Henrique and Carrick. With those two guys gone he'll get regular games and when he plays he's been a real nice bottom six guy. No reason to just toss him to the Leafs.

I've said before that I expected both Perreault and Tracey to have a short lifetime under Verbeek as GM. Neither kid has done enough in the AHL to make me sad to see them go. Hopefully Montreal can unlock more of his potential, because he certainly has more to give.

The Manson ship sailed out of Anaheim and we don't want him back. We certainly wouldn't pay a 2nd round pick for him if we did. Comparable talent level players will be available in free agency for nothing more than a contract and cap space (of which Anaheim has plenty).

Even then I don't think Celebrini is enough of a carrot for the Ducks to waste Zegras as an asset to move up two spots in the draft with Carlsson and McTavish already down the middle. A much better path would keep Zegras and their pick to take the best defenseman. Either Levshunov or Silayev will be a Duck if all goes according to the plan.

Every player on the Vancouver side is junk filler, a bust or a never-will-be. It boils down to Frank retained for that 1st. I'd much rather have him scoring 20-25 goals on the Ducks next year than take that pick that could easily be 28-32 OA.

Ducks also have a semi-rigid 6'2" height limit on goalies. For them to even look at a 6-footer he'd have to have some extra special qualities.
