Ditch Lehner Keep Hill
I would love to keep Hill at $3.5 million, but as a UFA you always seem to overpay by about 20% or more. Would be great if he would take that.
I don't think VGK is going to be able to prove Lehner is ready by June 15th or when the buyout window is after the Stanley Cup is over. I think they'd have to add a pick to get someone to take Lehner at this point, and I'd rather buy him out and keep Hill.

Vegas Golden Knights
Nolan Patrick is not going to be resigned, and sadly, I don't think he's ever going to play again. He's still having post-concussion problems last we heard in Vegas, and that was months after his injury.

Wait to use any cap space
Right. They don't accrue any cap space but the $2.4 million here will be available to get a person. But it is a true $2.4M - not like how cap space can effectively be higher at the deadline because only a weeks are left on the season.

Roy to PIT
I think Nic Roy is worth more than a 4th line winger (UFA next year) and a 32-year old depth defenseman.

Viva las vegas
Nolan Patrick is probably going to be on LTIR all season. Poor kid appears to still have concussion problems and probably should never play hockey again. If so, with about $2m total in cap room, VGK may bring up Morozov or another AHL player. Additionally, if they have cap space, I wouldn't be surprised to see them offload Weber's LTIR hit. No need for it and can't accrue cap space with it. Look for a team like AZ or CHI to take it. Maybe even ANA who is below or near the cap floor.

Trade Patches
Oh yeah - I had Hague in a trade and then reverted it. I think they will trade him and get a 3rd or maybe slightly more for him. If Schmidt got a 3rd at >$5M cap hit, a young D-man on his RFA will likely get at least that.

if Martinez returns and Stone remains out
I think they would trade Coghlan for a late round pick or waive him instead of waiving Howden. Howden has played well on the 4th line. But I think Nolan Patrick will go on LTIR. He should really think if he wants to continue playing the way he gets concussions. He could have so many problems later in life.

Simple Fix
I agree that both Smith & Brossoit are most likely candidates to get traded, but I don't think NYR has a need for Brossoit. Could see Reilly go there for sure though.

Minimum moves to bring Eichel and Martinez up
It's possible VGK just takes picks for Smith, but the rumors are that NYR is ready to move on from Kravstov. It seems to make sense, but there could also be some picks mixed into a deal like that.
I agree - it's possible Nolan Patrick gets claimed. He's starting to pick up his play in VGK, but I think the line of Carrier - Howden - Kolesar has been playing pretty good as a 4th line, and I think VGK will either move Patrick or waive him. He hasn't looked that good that many teams are going to be wanting to grab him at $1.2 million and have to keep him on their NHL roster. If he clears waivers, then a team might trade for him (a 6th at most) and put him on their AHL team for a year.

Perhaps. But again, if done early, this might be done with Detroit planning to flip Dadonov, and /or a 3-way deal. But I could live with that.

I figure Ottawa want a pick for Holden at 50$ and to take McNabb's salary too.

Heck yeah count me in. Could probably just flip McNabb right back out.</div></div>

Yeah I had to park those guys somewhere even to get down to about $7.25M that needs to be cleared. I figured VGK picked them up for basically nothing and won't care if they go for nothing. But overall they'd like to keep them as extras if they can when the playoffs have no salary cap.

What are the options
That's a good point about maximum number of retentions, and with Panik holding a spot this year and next, might need more compensation.
As for the 20 man roster - VGK did it last year (with the Taxi Squad helping) but officially only 20 men on the roster. When some players got injured, VGK even had to play a man or two short (only 15 skaters in big showdown against COL) and I think they will do it again if needed.

Until Tuch Comes Back
Again - the team title is "Until Tuch Comes Back." Just to be clear - players can start on LTIR, like Kucherov did, like Toronto had Clarkson & Horton on LTIR for an entire season. As long as he is on LTIR, they are compliant to start the season.
Unless VGK has another injury during the season while Tuch is out, and that injury lasts until the postseason, they will have to make moves when he comes back. But that isn't expected until February. In the meanwhile, I expect them to keep some of these guys so they can see what they have for trades. If guys aren't being effective (i.e. Janmark, Dadonov, etc.) they might get traded or waived at that time.

Cap compliant
Tuch isn't out for the season, but he is out for 6-monts from last week. Will be back no later than February. So VGK will have to make a move to get cap compliant with about $37K to move. But not that hard - likely Howden can be waived without real worry about it.

How do we keep Dadonov and Janmark with this cap
Again, this was not meant to be real trades. I was looking at teams with some cap space and had AHL players who were well over 26 years of age. Odds are, if you are still in the AHL at 26 and not consistently in the NHL, you aren't gonna make it. Since I don't know what other teams real prospects are, I wanted to find trades for players they were pretty certain they could bury in the AHL, no problem. These are examples.

Janmark's last contract was for $2.25M. As a full UFA - he's going to make more with some term somewhere. This is where I figured it could fit if VGK wants to hold him.

I think Fleury in Buffalo would be interesting, given what they are trying to do. But no way VGK holds on to $3.5M. If there is a way to funnel some of that through another team like Detroit, maybe.
