Kotkaniemi scratched

He’s still reasonably defensively responsible and decent with faceoffs, but otherwise he’s just there. Not really contributing much. He certainly has shown, in limited stretches, that he could be a very good top 9 player. He just makes too much $$$ for what he brings to the Canes and since they have Drury, who’s completely outplayed Kotkaniemi and will be much cheaper to re-sign, I think Kotkaniemi will eventually be the odd man out.</div></div>
Thanks so much. In the offseason what do you guys think of a return like Aman and a 4th to get out of his deal. Aman is defensively responsible 4th line C/PKer. He's shown okay offense in the A but hasn't translated and isn't overly physical (has size but mostly small bumps not hits)

Is he that bad or if kept to like 3rd line defense only role or does he suck at too was thinking he might be a potential 3rd line C for years for Vancouver playing alongside like Podkolzin. But if he's that bad.

Trade him to Vancouver. Hehe I really wish we could work out a trade for him I think a future full swede line with him- Petey- Lekkerimaki would be sweet.

Pageau and Danault make 5m and are Veteran versions of what KK can be 4.8m isn't unreasonable.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheBoyDuddus</b></div><div>Ottawa has a lot of problems but Batherson's production and especially at his cost with term left on the deal... that's one of the only really good things. Vancouver would have to add and I dont think they'd be interested in that. I would honestly say he'd be one of the most expensive pieces to pry out of Ottawa because of how inexpensive his deal is.
That said, I've always liked Hronek and think he'd be a great get but just needs to be at the right price.</div></div>
Yeah don't think we'd add don't think not sure a deal will work as other then Batherson next target would be Tkachuk or Pinto who are probably more unavailable. Not sure if Allvin would think Grieg has enough potential, and Norris health is too big a question mark for us. So unless this years 1st is available then maybe.

Pass on the Buffalo deal also. Jokiharju is okay, but Krebs doesn’t add anything and I’d rather an impact NHLer be the main piece instead of a 1st that isn’t in this years draft</div></div>
Fair enough don't think Buffalo is a good match as who we'd want aren't available and they wouldn't want Hronek that bad. I don't mind KK and think having him as 3rd line Shutdown C for years at a reasonable cap hit could really benefit the team.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JamieG613</b></div><div>Leafs won't pay that price when they can get a better RHD for cheaper in FA</div></div>
Name one RHD better then Hronek? Only one is Pesce but that is honestly debatable Pesce is better defensively but not as good offensively.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>You'd have to take Lilly out of the deal...
No point in paying all that money for Hronek if you can't balance it out with cheaper defensemen...</div></div>

Fair enough yeah I'd say that is max I think Hronek is worth keeping at (imo he should be 7m tops). I do think if he wants more should be used as trade bait and have the 7.5-8m used on 2 replacement D. (Ie. Tanev and Justin Schultz together should be 7.5-8.5m though they would not have Hronek's shot or offensive capacity but better defensively.)

I think they do if they can reasonably sign 2/3 UFAs better then Juulsen and Allvin thinks a bottom pairing alternating Juulsen/one of Woo/McWard/Johansson is the right call that said Marner isn't who we should be going for someone with size and skill makes more sense. We already have enough small forwards we don't need anymore even if Marner would be the best of the bunch.

Agreed. Canucks consider maybe at 50%. Either Van gets an okay backup for 1-1.5m or run with Silovs as back up not going to pay 2.75m for a backup.

In the 3rd if we are behind sure I think though makes the away games harder when the Lotto line gets matched up against the other teams top defensive line spreading them out for majority of the game makes more sense to me.

This would be better
I think Lindholm trade should get hate if he sucks in playoffs. But if he forms a good shutdown type 3rd line with say Mikheyev and Lafferty/Podkolzin that scores a couple goals that is where his worth is. He's a very good defensive center and if he can help take that pressure of JT and Petey. Well worth it.

The kids I understand but even Crouse? That wouldn't be rushing the rebuild just trading from a position of strength to a weakness.

I agree Crouse would be the most logical as other 3 are so young and showing good. I think him bringing size to play with Pettersson and Höglander and not be out of place.

Since Pettersson is re-signed Matheson to Van is never gonna happen. Return for Hronek would be a young prospect RHD or top six forward with size and a pick.

The difference between them isn't 1.75mil and 2 years of term.</div></div>
I agree to an certain extent. Zadorov is more physical then Soucy but Soucy is more balanced. I do think if he wants term the cap hit should come down. I do think a 5 year deal should be 4-4.5m tops. But with other gms thinking he is the solution may push it to 5m.

It's a little high but not unreasonably so. Honestly Zadorov brings the toughness on the backend that the team lacks.
Though imo if Myers wants 3.75m rather throw the money at a different person who doesn't need to be kept in check or find a way to to open enough to bring back Tanev.
I also think Hronek is nice but might be smarter to trade him if we can get another good young RHD and recoup some picks. As his value is a bit inflated by Quinn having a potential Norris trophy season.

Karlsson looks fine he's close to the NHL so no real loss on Dahlen. Tkachuk would've done what he did in Calgary to us so we would've have Weegar and hopefully traded Huberdeau though he would be interesting on Miller-Boeser line. Also missing Rasmus Andersson instead of Sven Baertschi.
Benning worst traits as a gm was rushing prospects then when they weren't McDavid trading them away for Pennies on the dollar so yeah. Could've had either Guenther on Peteys wing or Ehlers (who I wanted us to draft instead of Virtanen). And I'd rather us have lost Markstrom for free then Tanev

While some Canuck fans will bite at the chance for the 2nd deal. I like Podkolzin too much he may end up as only a 3rd liner but he is physical and young enough he might be able to become a decent point producer. He is something we need more of and I don't think Veleno or Berggen bring enough of that for us to justify that and Walman isn't a defenseman that we are looking for especially on the Left side need to re-sign Zadorov more (need big physical PK defenseman to offset Hughes size.)

25k is a tiny arguing point for Podkolzin. And if it gets another year (or 2) on his contract should be worth it In the long run. Would be like arguing could've paid Höglander 1m this year on a 1 year deal vs his current contract which should be a steal for these 2 years.

Why is Carolina paying more then the Islanders to unload KK. He's a young defensive specialist. Would assume someone would take him for their bottom six without adding all the extras.
