The problem I see is that Ottawa will have Sanderson in a year, maybe sooner if players decide to leave UND. Have any opinion you want, some people are just going to refuse to play with that kid, if only because of perception. Arizona has already buckled (argue good or bad elsewhere) and others may follow suit, ie UND teammates.
Ottawa’s top4 left side is set.</div></div>
Devon Toews went for two 2nds.
Schmidt went for a 3rd rounder.
You don't have to justify this trade. It gives enough.
TB is pinched!!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Alfie11</b></div><div>Did they not extend the clause when the season was delayed? I thought it had been established that whenever the season starts if Stutzle wants to come over he'll be allowed to, but maybe that's just a handshake agreement. Idk, I do feel like they'll have him in the lineup if they can though, he doesn't really have anything to prove in the DEL and the experience even as a middle six guy playing against the toughest competition in the world will be invaluable if we actually see him as a first liner in a couple years (which imo we do). If we let him slide and leave him in Germany and DON'T take advantage of that by acquiring a cap dump then I'm gonna be annoyed lol</div></div>
Personally I think teams have to look at their players psychologically more than we can as armchair GM's.
Unless they're completely done with their junior leagues (the Matthews, McDavid s, Crosby's, etc of the world) where they come in to the nhl not even as good players like say Tkachuk but as league leaders immediately, you have to really think about what's best for their development.
Different players will react differently to becoming a third liner all of a sudden. It's a subtle thing who will benefit the most when. We can't know from here. I tend to think teams are bringing to many draft plus 1 guys up and I think it isn't good for some of them.
Guys like Galchenyuk and Yakupov had the skill. They both played well at first. The problem was in development.
Even guys like Nichuskin.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMac66</b></div><div>He HAD an NHL out clause. After August 15th he is 'obligated' to play for Mannheim if the out clause was not exercised (which it couldn't have been because of the late draft). But that doesn't mean they can't terminate the contract, it just becomes more up to Mannheim rather than Stuetzle and the Sens. I still think it's likely he will play for the Sens BUT it wouldn't surprise me if the Sens took this as an opportunity to extend his entry level slide one year and not forcing a contract termination lol, The ultimate Sens move</div></div>

I don't see a deal for Brannstrom ever really making sense for both sides. If it's a prospect for prospect swap, I think Ottawa is pretty much always losing, because I don't think any team is giving up a Brannstrom level prospect to get a different prospect. Prospect swaps usually only happen with struggling prospects, and I would still classify Brannstrom as a blue chip D prospect.
As far as trading Brannstrom for NHL players, the only NHL players it would make sense to part ways with Brannstrom for, are players who would cost way more than just Erik Brannstrom.

I disagree, it's worth touching. Especially considering Eriksson is only owed 1m this year and 4 next. Sure they're loaded but another asset is another weapon to leverage. You don't refuse because you have too many assets</div></div>
I did suggest it would need to be the TBL 1st + the VAN 1st, so I'm not against taking back picks... I just want it to be fair value and since NO ONE ELSE is going to touch Eriksson, VAN can either keep him or pay what is being asked. For me, a late 1st and late 2nd is not enough. But I truly feel the deal should involve Zaitsev.

This seems like a little much for Laine. I'd think Severson, Zacha, one of the prospects (and maybe a pick) would be fitting for both sides. NJD stills to add a d-man, and by trading away Severson, they will need two. Zacha gets underrated since his draft position was high, but his point totals are low...but young centers are valuable, even if they are 3rd liners. Okhotyuk is a future middle or bottom-pair but a guy NJD expects to be NHL regular. Boqvist can fly, but hasn't proven up his offensive skillset yet.
My counter: Severson, Zacha, Boqvist, 2021 1st round pick (top-3 protected)...for...Laine and Samberg or Heinola

Oh at this point a Laine trade seems inevitable unfortunately, just a question of when, not sure what the reason is but the damage is done imo, my guess is he remains a Jet this season and is traded next offseason.

Laine trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMac66</b></div><div>Man that's a big trade but I don't see the sens moving a 1st anytime soon, even if it is protected. I can get behind a Braanstrom, Tierney, Abramov plus a 2nd. I think the Jets could get more of what they want from another team
Personally I think Stone is a better overall player than Laine and it was Braanstrom, Lindberg and a 2nd in the Stone trade. Lindberg was a throw in. I get it's not the same with age, goal scoring ability and potential being the biggest factors. But If I had to choose between the 2 wingers, I'm still taking Stone right now. Hell he might even command more than Stone on his next contract. which is scary. I'd be willing to give more than the Stone trade because I get it's not the same, but not a crazy amount more
<a href="/users/csick" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@csick</a></div></div>
I agree. Brannstrom is still going to be a stud but if we wait a year until he becomes a star, then it really might not take much to add to him to get Laine
