After seeing what CBJ did to shed cap space, I would like to take back by "Good" and lower that to a "Meh".

(CBJ/SEA) - Bjorkstrand for 2023 3rd and 4th RD picks
There's about a 50/50 chance neither of these draft picks turn into players that play as much as Bjorkstrand played last year. ... Holy crap, this is a bad deal for the CBJ. Good job, Seattle.

Injury insurance. These signings are not glamorous, but they are needed.

Overpay.
This is an overpay for a team that is now over the cap.

This is a good signing, even if he doesn't play a single game in the NHL this season. It give you injury insurance at league min.

Two years of merely average goaltending shouldn't get you a $3 million + contract. What the hell!?

San Jose Sharks signed Luke Kunin (2 Years / $2,750,000 AAV)
He had an off year, so if he bounces back with 40 points, it will be worth it. That's a BIG IF. If he slips, then this will be a bad contract for two years.

Montreal Canadiens signed Samuel Montembeault (2 Years / $1,000,000 AAV)
Pros:
1.) His contract is 100% buriable in the AHL.
Cons:
2.) He's an AHL level goalie getting paid more than league minimum.

I forgot he played for the Canucks. The Canucks definitely won that trade.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Pierre Engvall (1 Year / $2,250,000 AAV)
In a vacuum, this is a good deal. Toronto is a bit strapped for cash, so I don't know if this is the best use of their very limited funds.

$1.9 million is a bit much for a bottom pair defencemen.
Wait a minute? Was he a healthy scratch a lot last season? Oof. You don't spend $1.9 million on your seventh defenceman.

At worst, he's an injury call up. Teams need players like this to succeed.

Good value for a 4th line player. And since he can play the centre and left wing, it adds flexibility.

(PIT/NJD) - Marino for Smith and 2023 3rd round pick
At first, I thought the Devils won this, as they got the better player and didn't give up much. A prospect that isn't doing great and a 3rd is very little for a player that will make an impact this season. However, that player is arguably being paid too much, so they gave up assets to help the Penguins earn some much needed cap room.
Fair trade.

I would be impressed if he's playing in the NHL within the next two seasons. He's a prospect, vs. a piece.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Calle Järnkrok (4 Years / $2,100,000 AAV)
Good price for a 10-goal, 30-point player. The term is a little high, while the player is worse in the playoffs. I think it's a win, but a marginal one.

Washington Capitals signed Dylan Strome (1 Year / $3,500,000 AAV)
Easy win for the caps. $3.5 million for a 20-goal scorer is a steal. There are a couple of downsides here...
1.) Last year might be a fluke and they could regress this year.
2.) It is for only one year, meaning if they don't regress, they will get a massive raise next summer.
However, only one of those can be true, so again, easy win.
