In the past two posts you've told everyone that 1) just because a guy is playing in a certain role doesn't mean he belongs there, and 2) that points aren't the be all end all for defensemen.
SO close</div></div>
I've been arguing so much lately with Canucks fans, I forgot how bad Habs fans were. Literally the worst fanbase and it's not even close.

LMAOOOOO You did not just say Lilijgren would shelter Faber because he's struggling. Faber is already a wayyyyyy better player than Lilijgren. He would be sheltering Lilijgren.

Why is a bottom-10 MN team trading away a cheaper D-man with term for a rental? And adding a high 2nd on top of it?
Edit - i'm sorry, realized this is for UFA signing rights, so it's even worse.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeynutter</b></div><div>Voit has actually made it to the ahl, but an eye injury kept him out of games but I'd back healthy and playing as for Abruzese there is still some ceiling for a bottom 6 forward as he continues to grow.. As for picks I said starting point. So conditions and everything else are always brought back and forth. This value is dependant on the teams and GM.
Another great example verhaghe was part of a trade from Toronto as a 5 player deal to clear roster spots for Micheal grabner. If Toronto knew at the time what Verhaghe would grow into, no way they even consider that trade.
So all this is based on personal valuations and thoughts and opinions.
I am essentially agreeing with you, whilst stating why I may not go to the aboved valuation.</div></div>
teams can't just take shots willy nilly at ECHL/AHL fringe guys because, "well .05% of them turn into something good!"
this trade offer is a really bad start. There's nothing of interest in it. that's all.

Hire me Terry
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazWild</b></div><div>On the surface it's a phenomenal offer and one that should at least be considered. Getting the 8th OVA ontop of already having the 6th OVA could and should make anyone salivate.
Here's the rub, you're robbing Peter to pay Paul. With horrendous interest rates to boot.
Spurgeon is out for the year, so getting Jokiharju seems like good business. And yes, I already know your feelings on Spurgeon well so don’t start. Regardless, you're only creating a hole on the left to fill a hole on the right. Worse, in doing so you're moving the arguable best shutdown defenseman in the league for a 2nd pairing filler, and eventual 3rd pairing filler at that.
So, you've just moved Brodin. A top pairing defender. Who's replacing him in our top 4? Chisholm? Merrill? Goligoski? Hunt?
Those are some less then desirable outcomes.
As far as Mittelstadt goes, he's playing 3C in Minnesota. Not particularly a need for us. Not with Rossi's emergence as a legitimate 2C (at minimum).
Then there's also the fact you're moving a $6M Brodin for $5M in two different players for just this year only. As both Jokiharju and Mittelstadt are RFA at the end of the year and both are due massive raises. Jokiharju likely cost anywhere between $4-5M on his next contract, while Mittelstadt will cost somewhere in the $7-8M range.
So again, you're moving out $6M for a combined $9-13M in the long run.
No thank you.
I'll happily keep the elite shutdown defenseman.</div></div>
I would trade the 30 y/o oft-injured Brodin for the 8th pick straight up.

Trade with the enemy
Eriksson Ek isn't available. But for the sake of argument, a few points to make:
1) You are offering a 1st in the late 20s, an injury-prone young D yet to play a full season, and a presumably late 1st in 2026, so 2,5 years from now. There's some value but nothing that makes the Wild jump out of joy, no surefire asset. Eriksson Ek is a premium defensive 2C with an extremely team-friendly deal. You have to give something surefire to acquire him.
2) We are trading him to a divisional rival here. That means COL probably needs to pay a bit extra. Also, if we made JEEK available, there'd be a bidding war for the ages driving the price up even more.
So, to sum it up, this purely hypothetical offer is not enough for the WIld to trade their MVP to a rival.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>asauer1122</b></div><div>I mean, not saying thats the trade, but to say mitts isnt something wild are looking for isnt super accurate. Mitts is a great player anywhere for the top 9 that can play in most situations. Most teams in the league would be able to use that</div></div>
Not what the wild are looking for. Especially not in need of a new deal. A 3c and a 2nd or 3rd pair defender both looking for new deals for a 1A goalie, 2nd pair defender, just drafted 1st round c and a 2nd. Yea that’s a very lopsided deal. I mean if it was cozens or Thompson then that would be reasonable valuation. But this is not.

This is a bad idea. Are you really going to get more than the top-40 pick you're giving up for Tanev at the TDL? Is it worth the risk of giving away a top-40 pick and then the guy gets injured and is untradeable?
I see spending a 4th to get someone in hopes of flipping them for a 2nd or 3rd. Taking a cap dump (who is decent player, just overpaid) for nothing, then retaining half, and flipping them for something at the TDL makes more sense. You're not out anything if things go sideways.
