guerin offseason take II
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheBoyDuddus</b></div><div>Well to be fair a, likely late, ‘25 1st and a B/C prospect really isn’t significant at all.
Ottawa gave 12, 49 and another 2nd a little over a year ago and all Chychrun’s done is arguably have the best statistical year of his career with a revolving door of coaches.
They’re likely looking for help right now but I think the 13th pick by itself would be something the team would have to consider.</div></div>
Ottawa isn't going to recoup what they gave up for him.
I said already he gets more than this, but that doesn't mean going from the '25 1st to the 13th pick this year.

Lol, that's not the "least" they can do, that's the 13th overall pick

Chychrun gets more than this, but otherwise yeah, I think both of your threads have felt realistic from a Wild POV

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SensFan40</b></div><div>They can talk to players before July 1 and have handshake deals done on extensions. The extension just can't be registered prior to July 1. So they can know if Chychrun would be looking to do an extension or not.</div></div>
Minnesota would be interested in trading for Chychrun, but they're not trading for him without an extension in place, and they're not trading that pick for him.

The impossible
It would need to be a 2025 2nd for Boeser because he would need to come with an extension
That said, they may just wait til free agency next year, who knows
But yeah they make that deal if Boeser has an extension

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StutzlesNumber1Fan</b></div><div>I'd assume any team that picks him up has the intention to extend him on July 1st. Otherwise then I definitely agree with you.</div></div>
I think that's why you're more likely to see him traded after July 1, with an extension in place, for a 2025 conditional 1st. Or if a team does trade for him prior to the draft, it'll be a team with a later 1st who has a clearer path to the playoffs and isn't as concerned about his rental status.

It still involves giving away a top 14 pick for a rental. Maybe another team would be interested, but I doubt it.

Yeah I don't think $5M of bottom of the lineup spare parts you guys don't want anymore is interesting enough to trade those prospects for

Move up in 1st rd
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SensFan40</b></div><div>I think the discussion starts and ends with that pick - not wasting time thinking Wallstedt, Faber or Eriksson Ek could be involved and there's not much else that would be of interest to the Sens. The 1st next year is too much of an unknown since I see Staios wanting either a proven NHLer or a top 14 1st this year. If Minnesota won't include 13 this year then the Sens will go to one of 10 other teams who would swap NHLers.</div></div>
You're not getting a top 14 1st for Chychrun, I don't really care what you gave up to get him. He's a one year rental.
You'll get a (late 2024 or conditional 2025) 1st and a prospect with some extras sprinkled in for balance, as is standard for these types of deals. You would have to part with a significant addition to even get a conversation for Faber or Eriksson Ek started.

Aside from that, probably would be difficult for the Wild to make that cap work next year since they'd need to sign Necas long-term.</div></div>
I also remain completely unconvinced that Necas, or any Necas style player, is something Guerin even wants on his roster

There's no counter because they don't want any of your spare defensemen and they're not giving you their 1st.

I just wouldn't move pick 13 for pieces like that. Depth pieces, not top of the lineup pieces like you hope to get with 13. Maybe Foerster and FLA 1st for MIN 1st would get me thinking, but anything short of that is an easy no.
