realistic
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FryesLeapMaine</b></div><div>I don’t understand this. 2 major ufa’s to be with incompetent owner / gm doesn’t seem like a good mix. Why would ek and Duchene want to resign? The city? Almost every city has something nice about it.
I’m sure they’ll say “I want to stay” because they aren’t dinks who will ruin their trade value, but do they actually want to be back?
Goaltending is practically unbearable moving forward and that’s the single most important position in hockey.</div></div>
Just so i get this right are you're implying it's unrealistic because I haven't traded Karlsson and Duchene?
I see the problem, the team looks pretty grim I agree. This is just how I see next season's roster looking baring any blockbuster moves. As a resident of the city I cannot express to you how essential it is to keep Erik Karlsson. He is the only player the fans care about other than Stone, but in terms of popularity it's not even close. Duchene is an interesting situation. Me and many other weren't happy with how much we lost in that trade, but in the end we got a pretty damn good player. This guy is the best option we have at number 1 center, and he is expected to fill in the shoes of Kyle Turris. If the Senators were to trade him, the fans would be infuriated because you got rid of Turris for a guy that didn't even last a year.
Goaltending is sketchy, but I think Ottawa will play it by ear. Historically, Anderson has always had a down year followed by an up year. Its not reasonable to expect that trend on continuing, but there aren't many other options given the shiny extension Dorion signed him to this year and next. If Anderson can bounce back, the team is in a lot better shape than last year. The blue line also needs a blue line. If Karlsson can return to form offensively and defensively paired with the bounce back year from Anderson Ottawa will be much better at keeping the puck out of their net. Gustavsson is in the system and hopefully develops into a starter within the next 3 or 4 years. Chabot will also continue to develop, as well as Wolanin and Claesson. Boro brings a physical presence and a lot of character. Wideman missed all but 16 games last season. Throughout those 16 games he played he scored 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points. Ceci is terrible, but they're never going to trade that damn pylon. The blueline was really bad last season, but it can get better this year, and if it does, Karlsson would be much more enticed to stay.
Ottawa actually scored more goals/game last season than they did in 16/17. The first line needs not introduction but I will throw out there Dzingle scored 23 goals and 43 points in this most recent season. White scored 6 points in 21 games too. If White and Dzingle consider to get better, the top 6 gets a real boost. If White isn't ready to play 2nd line C, there is going to be a big problem, because the thought of Pageau in that role is chilling. Our 4th overall pick this year has an asterix. If we somehow land Zadina, that would be stellar. Odds are we get Tkachuk, which is still great. The problem is Tkachuk will probably want to finish his education at Boston U, delaying some offensive upgrades for the top 6. Pageau as the 3rd line C, sure. Chlapik on the third line I'm also comfortable with. The bottom 6 is rather untouched. Still pretty bad, but I really liked Didi while he played here so bringing him back would be stellar. They're never gonna trade Smith even though I can't stand him.
As I see it, it is imperative Ottawa keeps both of them. The team can get better next season, and I find it very unlikely Ottawa would make any big splashes to try and accommodate these players, not really how they do things. While I understand this team isn't very enticing, but it's what I see the Sens being going forward. The moves I would make to fix it are a different armchair-gm team.

3-Team Trade: Ottawa
Not big fan, blue line and goaltending is a tire fire. The team really hurts without EK and as a Sens fan that is not a trade I would appreciate at all, especially because Tronto would be rolling over us for years to come.

McDavid's contract will cary a $12,500,000 AAV and Cap Hit starting next year according to this very website.

Damn right he is. However reports were indicating Tampa was interested in him this year as a potential deadline acquisition. I feel that Ceci a youthful defenceman and a top flight porspect in Logan Brown is fair for Foote especially considering the Lightning have Hedman and Sergachev to anchor their blue line.

I Don't See a Need
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>don't you think the kings can find better value at 4m to play defence than phanuef, and they won't have to give up a first rounder. strange that you say "tank for this year and we good to go". it's almost the same team as this year, it's either double tank but more than likely about 20th overall for the next few years.</div></div>
It was reported that the Kings were interested in Phaneuf which is the reason I sent him there. I agree they probably wouldn't have to give up a first I would be perfectly happy to get half his deal off our books for a second or third. As for the team looking very similar I feel that Ottawa currently has a lot of the pieces it needs to compete. Anderson often has alternating good and bad years and if that trend continues a good year is up next. If not, goaltending could be an issue. As for the rest of the roster however:
First line: This line has been dynamite over the past few weeks and another year of development for Colin White will make it even better.
Second line: Dzingle is again showing his goal scoring potential and Mark Stone needs no introduction. Not a fan of Brassard but he will get the job done or if Chaplik is ready he can be pushed down to 3rd line
Third line: Pageau is a great 2 way third line center and a playoff performer. Ryan is also great in the playoffs and his position on the third line really just seems to suit his regular season point totals. Another year of development on Formenton should enable him for third line minutes next year.
Forth Line: Gritty, penalty killers who can also score. I have really liked DiDomenico's play this year and I am also a fan of Pyatt. Thompson is good on the PK.
Defense has seen an overhaul by moving out Ceci and Phaneuf. The first pairing of Chabot and Karlsson is lethal assuming Karlsson can return to 2016/2017 form. Swedish paring of the defensive Claesson with Dahlin could also work very well for the Senators. Wideman and Boro are both very well suited 3rd pairing defencemen in my opinion.
In summary I think this team with new youth and further developed players would have a great chance next season. Assuming goaltending holds up and players begin to perform at what they are capable of I would argue playoffs are absolutely within the capacity for this team

He will likely require time in the AHL to work on it, I can't see him making the direct jump from junior</div></div>
I appreciate the insight! I haven't followed Foote in particular so I was not aware of that area of that improvement, however it makes sense especially considering defensemen often take longer to develop than forwards. Luckily in this case Claesson would be very capable of filling in as a top 4 defensemen to play alongside Dahlin.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claebom</b></div><div>Ceci is a top 4 D, and Dansk is a 3rd string goaltender. That's a pretty silly trade, and not at all good value. But hey, at least it's better than that Duchene trade. It wasn't even a month ago when Duchene went for a gigantic package. He's not suddenly only worth a mid-to-late 1st. And Chlapik? Lazar got a 2nd, and Chlapik has shown better as a prospect.</div></div>
Dansk played really well for Vegas and wouldn't mind at all taking a crack at him. I do not value Ceci as a top 4 d I find him to be very irresponsible on both sides on the puck. Hense I would trade him for anything plus despite his shortcomings in my eyes he will still demand a raise this year something which Ottawa team cannot afford.

With the amount of Centermen Ottawa has in the system, Brown seems like an asset they could afford to move. I find it very unlikely Phaneuf would waive his NMC to go to the worst record in the salary cap era Colorado Avalanche.
