Next season and AHL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ricochetii</b></div><div>I said we <strong>may</strong> need to move Matheson because we will have 5 LHD if we don't move Edmundson.
Development is the priority and we need to ensure other players are getting sufficient minutes.
His value may also be at a high and/or enable us to pick up a RHD.
If he were a couple years younger and had a couple years more term, absolutely keep him and move one of the younger guys instead. As it stands we aren't in a position to capitalize on his performance before his contract expires.
If he plays the other side as a stop-gap measure, that's a little better but again a temporary measure we aren't in position to take advantage of. There is at least the benefit of giving us 3 years to fully develop our left side and work on an eventually replacement in that scenario.
On the left either him or Edmundson has to go. Combined they simply take too many minutes.</div></div>
All ture but of course you just trade edmundson instead.... and i mnot that worried about Rd as many players are comfortable on that side like Harris... i think Barron will be good and I do like Savard if mailloux doesnt develop then you can re-sign savard for 2 more seasons... So we shouldnt do a knee jerk trade and move matheson,,,, he could be better than all the prospects coming... Also Lane hutson plays the right side as well.
Matheson Barron
Guhle Savard
Xjerex Harris
Should be the pairs next year.
However next year is the year of the rookies forward and drafting a good goalie of the future.

Shane Wright Draft
Woe, way too much for Clague and Pitlick and way too little for Romanov. Why would you give a dman that has been in and out of the lineup more than the dman who has been playing the most minutes on the team?

Rem Pitlick was on waiver, he should not get more than 1.5M for 2 years. He is a 3-4 liner depth. We could see what he could do. We do not want the same mistake as Armia.

(MTL/CGY) - Toffoli for Heineman, Pitlick, 2022 1st, 2023 5th
Fair deal IMO.
The Habs turn a free agent signing into a 1st round pick and other pieces. Toffoli will be a very solid add for the Flames.
The loser of this trade is the Canucks.

Thread:
the definite consensus between habs fans
We'll need to have an evaluation period to see what works, but based on the change, I'd try something like this.
Anderson - Suzuki - Caufield
Drouin - Dvorak - Hoffman
Toffoli - Poehling - Gallagher
Lehkonen - Evans - Armia
Someone to drive the net (Anderson, Dvorak, Gallagher).
Someone to shoot the puck (CC, Hoffman, TT).
Someone to act as playmaker (Suzuki, Drouin, Poehling?).
4th line to take bulk of defensive responsibilities.
Poehling is the question mark, but he's sheltered by two vets and Evans or Dvorak can step in for defensive draws if necessary. Similarly, Drouin can swap with Anderson for offensive draws.
PP1
Hoffman - Suzuki - Caufield
Drouin - Petry
Setup quality shots from multiple positions.
PP2
Toffoli - Dvorak - Gallagher
Anderson - Wideman/Romanov
Volume shooting and crashing.
PK1
Evans - Lehkonen - Edmundson - Savard
PK2
Dvorak - Armia - Chiarot - Romanov
We have a lot of options for wingers, but Suzuki/Caufield, Drouin/CC,TT,Hoffman and Gallagher/Poehling should be combined to start.

Is Drouin even capable of staying healthy for a full season ?
Drouin will be the odd man out, somehow.
Drouin being a former 3rd Overall pick also, serves as an awesome cautionary tale when considering the KK situation.
Ex Hab Galchynuk also fits the former 3rd Overall pick story too.

I would do a 3rd for Lehkonen with retention if the Avs needed a forward at the deadline. I wouldnt do a prospect on top of that, especially not a RD since the only ones COL has are Helleson and Barron who I value much more than Lehkonen

I know it will never happen, but could you imagine if KK refuses to sign anything but his QO and the Hurricanes refuse, only for KK to resign with Montreal in UFA?

Depends who the Yotes Draft.
Draft picks are wasted all the time,
Ahem the Habs 2021 1st Rd pick on Mailloux.
So right now the biggest winner is Habs.
biggest loser Canes.
fair trade Yotes.
All can change if Dorvak is a fish out of water (American playing in Quebec) and under performs.
Canes sign KK to an extension with a lower cap hit.
The Yotes draft 2 future NHL'ers.

This actually works out Awesome
Sure we lose 2 years in the age gap
But we get back a Top 10 Faceoff Center Yearly
Who plays at KK level who is an ideal 2nd line Center
This takes the pressure off Evans allowing his line to do more then back check
I mean Splitting up Suzuki-Caufield is horrible and Norlinder isnt anywhere near ready
But outside those blunders this could be a far better team without KK then with
I like KK but he signed a 6mx1 year deal so F him
If it was for Term i could atleast understand it
But F'ing over your Teammates for a 1 year deal
Thats the type of behavior he can take with him same as Subban(sat out to start a season to get overpaid which has killed his career)

Problem is for the Sabres next offseason limits their return even further, as Eichel's NMC kicks in and he can pull an OEL and say he will only waive for Boston and someone else. this will lower his value significantly because Buffalo won't be able to get a bidding war going anymore. Buffalo's best option is to allow Eichel to have ADR then return and trade him at value once the risks are reduced.
