IDEAS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Book_Hockey</b></div><div>1. Vegas is not trading Glass or Krebs to dump MAF </div></div>
I love Glass as well but this is the unfortunate truth. If a team wants to dump a player the most they'll tack on is a 1st, much like Toronto did with Marleau. In no way is a team giving up their best prospect in order to make a cap dump.
It would be similar to if someone wanted us to tack on Nils, K'Andre, or Kravtsov in order to dump Smith.

Islanders Offseason Plan
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Waddilyp</b></div><div>Rangers don't do this either. Not only is Buchnevich worth more than Toews and Ho-Sang (he was on pace for 55 points last year), you also want us to retain salary? Hard Pass</div></div>
Actually I don't think it's such a bad deal. Toews is quietly a very solid LHD and one our defensive core is in need of. Buchnevich is valuable but we don't entirely have a need for him. He could be the odd man out in the long-term picture.
I'd probably drop Ho-Sang since his value is as negligible as you can get. As a Rangers fan I think Toews + a 1st for Buch is rather fair but I could see it also being Toews + a 2nd.

Why Is No One Talking About Florida
I think people are too used to seeing Florida flop when it comes to success.
That being said, I really like their team going into next season and I wouldn't be surprised if they made a deep run in the playoffs.

I've always been confused about the general notion about Shattenkirk. His production has obviously declined over the years but he's still a serviceable top 4 D, no? At something like $3.5 mil I'd be all over that if I were another team. And for a 6th round pick with additional 7ths coming my way, I don't see why it's not a steal.

Why would you pay someone $5 mil to play on your 4th line? Waste of cap space if you ask me.

Huge Toronto trade
It's a decent trade but I don't see why the Leafs, a team struggling with their defense, would trade two of their top defensive prospects along with Zaitsev. All they're doing is depleting an already bare defensive core and adding to an already stacked offense.

No Big UFA until next year
Tampa deal's a little bit of a stretch but I like the targets. I'd love to bring Foote in. I was hoping he'd be in the McDonagh-Miller trade but of course he wasn't.

Realistic NYR team
I'd say it's pretty realistic. There's nothing that jumps out and makes me scratch my head. As a personal preference though, I hope the Rangers don't take on any salary dumps or anything like that. We may have money now but in a few years we'll need to re-sign pretty much every young guy on our team and having cap strain then is really going to suck. Plus this also takes us out of the Panarin/UFA race but I guess it's your team. Still pretty good though.

Toronto would you take this trade
I'm pretty sure Toronto would take this in a heart beat. The real question is why would we do this trade? We give up Kreider, Andersson, Pionk, and a first for Sandin? No thanks.

Trading away half the team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>1) I kept all my 1sts and top prospects. Including a potential lottery pick this year.
2) I brought the average age of my forwards to 22
3) I brought the average age of my dmen down to 24
4) The majority of the team is under team control for at least 3 years
5) I'm not sure if this is a contending team next year (though looking at the analytics I'd submit that it's easily the best team in the Metro) It's certainly a contending team in 2 years with the growth of Chytil/Kravtsov and the addition of Miller/Lundkvist
6) I don't think it's realistically possible to do better without compromising on points 1-4</div></div>
Looking at it again, I can see your side of it and you're right, it is a series of very good trades. I guess I personally don't think any of the returning players are anything special, but that's just me.

Trading away half the team
I like the trades but on a different perspective, this team sucks. I'm not trying to offend you or anything because I can genuinely see the appeal in these trades, but I don't see how this team is any better than our past contending teams. Yes, it's better than our current rebuilding team, but that doesn't really mean much, and it's certainly not a top contending one in my opinion.

Big Moves
I'm a little confused over the general direction of this whole idea. You're trading away young guys for older guys and draft picks. Is this supposed to be a win-now team or a full-rebuild team?
I don't have a problem with the trades but more so the premise of the trades in itself. Trading just to trade isn't going to benefit us at all.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jiannuccilli</b></div><div>Find me one example of a past trade in which an actively rebuilding team traded a young regular roster player (with retained salary) for a terrible cap hit with 1 year left on the deal.</div></div>
I don't think it's unusual at all for a rebuilding team to take on a cap dump in exchange for a prospect or a pick. In fact, I believe it's quite common. After all, it wouldn't make much sense for a contending team to take on cap dumps. This also applies for retained salary too. When you're a rebuilding team, money doesn't really matter all that much so if you have to use some of it to obtain more prospects and picks, that's not a problem.
As for the specific situation you outlined, I don't think there are many trades where all those conditions are met. It's probably hard to find any trade that has both a cap dump for 1 year and a salary retained on a U26 player. That being said, it's not that unrealistic, and isn't that the point of the armchair-GM? To create trades that you would do if you were a team's GM?
Personally if I was the GM of the Rangers, I wouldn't have any problem doing this kind of trade. A U26 player won't necessarily be a big piece of our future core so trading him, even with retained salary, isn't that big of a deal. Also if the return included a first round pick as well as a prospect, I would gladly take on a short-term cap dump to complete the trade.

Rebuild Year 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Simondaniel113</b></div><div>Fair enough, who do you think makes the top pp? Namestnikov??</div></div>
Kravtsov.
He has a wicked shot at the top of the right circle, like Mika does on top of the left. If I was the coach, I'd plan to have Mika and Kravtsov at the circles, with DeAngelo moving it around at the blue line. Panarin in deep to make plays and a net-front presence like Andersson or even Lemieux to screen the goalie.
Also if we don't sign Panarin, Chytil would take that place.

2 Year Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rja40</b></div><div>I think you might undervalue Parayko a bit. He's easily a top 5 defenseman on an awesome contract. Add to that the Blues have no desire to move him. Add all of those up, the Rangers would have to overpay for him. You can keep Andersson. Start with Kravstov, Pionk, Gettinger and a 1st. That's the type of overpay needed to pry Colt55 from the note.</div></div>
This is ridiculous.
A what? Parayko a top 5 defenseman?! On what world?
Kravtsov for Parayko is already an over payment. I agree the first trade is a little low but yours is utterly ridiculous.
