Exactly, with Trouba and potentially Myers moving on, he’s a good option. Besides, he and Buff and good buddies as well.

TBL Cap Relief
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Poehling</b></div><div>They dont want Scott Darling</div></div>
You realize that with him being sent down to the AHL TBL will save $4M in total on the cap, right? More if they elect to buy him out. This transaction is all about cap savings, not an extra goalie. They can upgrade at RHD, resign him and still save on the cap.

Perhaps, but he is one of the few high dollar pieces without trade protection. They will have to move a significant piece out to afford the cap tsunami coming their way.

Trading Necas for RNH would be a nonstarter, then to add Bean on top of that is just plain unrealistic. CAR passes on that deal.

I don’t understand the STL trade at all, what’s the point? Maybe exchange Schenn for the 2nd and it might make sense for Carolina.

TML Blockbuster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>Well...that's an opinion...not exactly cold hard truth...but I can play along too..
The best you will get for Pesce is Kapanen and a 3rd
The reality is that the Leafs' current team defence is top 10 in the league. It's certainly an area we can improve...but we'll be making the playoffs for a 3rd straight year with this group. Does Pesce help round out the d-core and give us a better shot to advance a round or 2? Sure...certainly possible.
But the canes have a new owner who will be itching for some playoff action of his own....it's abundantly clear the most glaring need is scoring as you sit 23rd in the league...yet are just 3 points out of a wildcard spot.
I just posted this in another thread...but Pesce isn't an elite RHD man....he's more in the 3rd rung of RH d-men.
Elite: The top pairing guys that play 20min, shut down the opposition top lines and put up 60+ pts (karlsson, burns, doughty)
Tier 2: Is a mix between 50+ pt guys that are puck movers and 40+ pt guys that are shut-down d-men
Tier 3: is a similar mix between 40+ pt puck movers and straight up shut-down dmen that don't generate much offence...that's where Pesce falls, IMO
That's not to be meant as a criticism of him....he's one of the best defensive d-men in the league, IMO....but someone that only puts up 20pts a year shouldn't command as big a haul as the guys in the tiers above.
Kapanen is no elite top line winger himself and probably sits in a 3rd tier amongst his peers too...
so for me...I see two similar guys providing similar levels of play to a team that is very deep at the same position. Leafs add a bit to make up for winger vs d-man discrepancy...but not a whole lot, IMO</div></div>
Based on your argument I’d have to choose Pesce, over Kap and a pick, because it doesn’t move the needle enough for us. As you’ve stated he is an elite shutdown guy and for us and that is far more valuable the a 40-pt scorer. This may not be the same for other teams but for us he’s second to Slavin. Now Faulk would be a better fit but you’re not as motivated to make that trade for Kap and that’s why there hasn’t been one to this point. Both sides have to see value in the deal. This is something that may have to be revisited in the offseason because I’m not convinced that Willy won’t get moved to relieve pressure. If so, there more be more flexibility to make something happen. #WeCanandWeWill

The hard truth is that the best you will do is Pesce for Willy, Faulk for KK, or TVR for Johnsson. Don’t shoot the messenger. ?♂️

No need for all of the pearl clutching Boys, I’ll happily remove Fleury and Kostin from the deal. TBH we don’t really need him and he wouldn’t even be our best AHL RW. I had heard rumblings that the org wasn’t happy with him and I was simply trying to fill a need on your end.

The LHD argument sounds reasonable...Bean or Fleury may be more realistic on the left side. The other concern is his lack of term. It would be a balance in paying a fair price and trading youth for a player who could walk in a year. That’s the reason I chose Faulk.

Not at all, I’m a Kadri fan and agree with you. That may be a bit too much for their cap situation though. If they choose to hold a grudge against Willy, he could also be a possibility. I was just spitballing a few deals with some of the rumored available players.

I don’t think the have to move Faulk at all. With two years of term left and close to the cap floor, they can afford to be patient. The only players that they’ve expressed interest in are Saad and Schmaltz. CHI has declined those options, so everyone has moved on.

Opening night lines idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>Rask won 55% Of his faceoffs last year. They aren’t moving him off center. Aho was at 45% and isn’t very good defesively there. He would be better off at wing and so would the team. But without a #1 center they may be forced too. Don’t be surprised if Necas is in the AHL. He has never played in North America outside of jr. tournaments. The game is more physical and the schedule more compact. He could use some time in the AHL to adjust. Looks solid though.</div></div>
McDavid has a career face off percentage of 42 and isn’t a likely Selke candidate...should he be moved to the wing? Aho is a natural center that’s only had a handful of games, at his natural position. He continues to prove that playing for Team Findland. Faceoff’s and D-zone coverage can be learned and improved. Size wise he’s similar to Giroux, Crosby, Point, Duchene, RNH, Trocheck, etc. The kid wants and deserves his shot and they will most likely give it to him.

The TBL trade is reasonable, I don’t like it, but it’s valid. The MTL trade is not. It’s gives up far too much for all of Price’s expensive years and would set the team back in its development.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Birtle34</b></div><div>Winnipeg doesn’t usually trade anyone that commits longterm to them, they let Ladd walk and bought out Stewart but anybody else ie Kane asked out of town. So the odds of ehlers or scheifele in any sorta deal are pretty remote even if the offer coming the other way is pretty fantastic because any player coming back is basically only protected from ufa status about as long as they all ready have ehlers and scheifele all ready signed up for if that makes any sense</div></div>
Do you think they let the vets walk instead?

I’m certainly flexible on most of the prospects but they’re not giving up their top center prospect for a left wing, that wouldn’t be prudent.
