lol a 30 year old rental with similar career stats to Necas doesn’t return a 2nd as well

Canes aren’t doing that. You can give up a late round pick for him, but we aren’t paying to dump him.

That’s probably not enough for Laine even with his issues.
Can’t see anything in that Montreal trade interesting us, but apparently Xhekaj is the next Victor Hedman so

It can be different at the deadline, when a desperate GM is willing to overpay for a non-star player they think can get their team over the top (ie Forsberg for Erat). That doesn't help CAR this summer though.</div></div>
Friedman reported just about every team in the league has called about him, so clearly a lot of the league thinks they can mold him into a better player than the canes have been able to
He also said nobody has really met the canes asking price yet, which should be telling

Yeah he’s still older than what it feels like too since he only played a handful of games his first two seasons and his first two real NHL seasons were shortened due to covid

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gmgb</b></div><div>What is the latest rumour about his asking price anyway? I've heard CAR is looking for a top prospect. From what I've seen, most of the fanbase wants someone who can play right now - not futures. To me, finally addressing the goaltending seems like the biggest need.
If the Canes can get a Jeannot like overpay for him, more power to them. Personally I hope my team (NSH) isn't in on him, as there are plenty of good wing prospects in the system, and bigger needs at C and RD to fill. He's not someone I'd like to see as the main piece in a return for Askarov or Saros.</div></div>
I have no idea, but what I’ve read is that they want someone to help the current team, preferably a forward, it might be someone like Ehlers or Buchnevich, but we know the canes stance when it comes to rentals. If they went the futures route, like you said “top” prospects, not “good but not top”
As for goaltending Kochetkov is likely getting a shot to take the starting role this year, he played really well last year after a rough first month

That 20 goal season from Raddish was about has flukey as Cheechoo’s 56 goal season

Of course they want quality, but not a lot of teams can actually meet Necas demands in terms of salary/cap WHILE also having pieces to send back of equal quality. They might need to settle for a mixture of lesser nows and some futures. Getting quality for quality now is about as likely as a 1 year arbitration and walking as a UFA.</div></div>
They aren’t going to “settle” for anything, they’ll get what they’re looking for or Necas is going to have to suck it up and stick around

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gmgb</b></div><div>Shooting % isn't the end all be all predictor of future success stat. There's definitely a degree of randomness to it.
Take Necas for example. His % can fluctuate wildly, when his goal scoring remains consistent, like in the first few seasons of his career. When he had his big outlier season in 22-23, his shooting % was average for him, instead of spiking up wildly like such an increase might suggest.
I'd expect a player's shooting % to go up at least somewhat, with the security and consistency that comes with becoming a regular in the lineup, as opposed to being an AHL/NHL tweener. That's probably as much of a factor of the spike in Höglander's % as anything else.
A 1st in the late teens to mid twenties range, and a good (but not a top) prospect is the right sort of return for Necas. Höglander is better than the level of prospect I think CAR should expect in a Necas trade (and able to step in and contribute right now, as opposed to a couple years down the road - an important consideration, from what Canes fans have been saying). I think that's a fair trade off for VAN's 1st being 5-10 spots later than what some other teams can offer.</div></div>
I guess he’s staying a cane then since the team has made it pretty clear that isn’t what they’re looking for

At some point you’ve gotta pay up to keep talent around. If not you e gotta replace him with the closest UFA to his production, maybe for less years though

If Höglander is already a better goal scorer at 23 than Necas was, imagine what he could do with the increased ice time and PP usage Necas gets.</div></div>
Because his shooting percentage was 20% this season when his previous career average was 9.6?
Im not saying he’s a bad player, but he can’t be THE centerpiece of a Necas trade

LMAO if Vancouver turns down a 60-70 point player with the potential to hit 80 with the right group of linemates for a 3rd liner due for a huge regression in scoring and a late first, their GM should be fired
