Personally I wouldn't even trade 6th overall for Zegras.
Consider also there's an element here that Carolina can't afford to re-sign everyone this year and next, there's pressure on them to move someone.
And of course, add the element of the sour OS business and the Canes owner taking things so personally, I don't think Habs are the team the Canes need to be dancing with in this situation</div></div>
Why? Picks are magic beans. Filip Zadina was a 6th overall pick. You think he's worth more than Martin Necas? There's no pick (unless it's like, top 3) that'll ever be worth more than a 60-65 point producer in a defensively demanding system. Montreal may not get their calls answered by Carolina after Waddell pants them with the KK deal, but Carolina can afford to re-sign everyone. All they need to do is bridge Jarvis instead of signing him long term. There has to be a reason for Carolina to move Necas, this isn't it

What are Calgary adding? Orlov is a top pairing D man. Kuzmenko is a middle six winger. Orlov's CLEARLY the better player and it isn't close, that is not enough to consider moving Orlov

Canes aren't going to get such a big return for Necas. Definitely not 3 pieces. I'd be surprised if they got 2.</div></div>
LMAO, they'll get 3 very strong quality pieces IF they decide to move Necas. This isn't it. The pick is nice, but there's no interest in anything else

That's still a lot. Personally I wouldn't trade 6th overall for Necas. He's 26 years old, only had 2 20-goal seasons.
Great player. I would trade Harris and the other 1st round pick</div></div>
Canes wouldn't consider Harris and Winnipeg's 1st. Truthfully, Harris isn't of much interest, neither is Dvorak. The ONLY thing here interesting for Carolina is the pick. Personally, I'd still rather use Necas (whose 25, not 26) to get a major upgrade up fromt. He's had 3 different 60+ point pace seasons (this year, the 56 game season, and the 71 points he had last year) and he's doing that in a system where individual offensive talent goes to die. To put that into perspective, while not getting top line minutes because of his defensive game and playing out of position as a natural center in a system where he's forced to play a game he doesn't want to, he's STILL outproducing Caufield.

Off-season GM scenario - Necas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SK101</b></div><div>Necas didn’t have more than 40 points in a season until he was 24. Sillinger is 20, Kent Johnson is 21, and chinakov just turned 23. They are all better than Necas was at that age.</div></div>
Necas had a 40 point pace as a rookie. His rookie season was conveniently broken up by a pandemic...

They want to play him there. This has been a major disagreement for years between Rod and the front office, Please don't try and talk about issues you're clueless about.

It's almost like Necas' PPG pace was better and his rookie season was broken up by a pandemic. Stop it

Off-season GM scenario - Necas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SK101</b></div><div>Yeah no chance the jackets do that. Necas is good but idk if he’s even worth the proposed package above let alone sillinger, chinakhov and KJ. He has regressed this year and would be putting up even less points in the jackets system. Not to mention he needs a new contract while the guys you want will be much more affordable.</div></div>
Regressed from a 71 point season to a 65 point season... not sure I'd call that regressing. Johnson apparently wants out and Sillinger hasn't shown half the promise he should have done. This is a pile of garbage for a 65-70 point winger. If you're not going to pay, he'll stay in Raleigh

We lack center assets and RHD assets. Spending futures and cap to acquire wing assets when you have promising wing assets is silly. Nashville has better places to utilize their assets/capspace.
Evangelista has 15G 18A 33P in 70 Games... which is a 17G 21A 38P per 82 pace which i guess isnt quite 40 points if he continues his current pace.</div></div>
Necas is a natural center.... but you do you big boss

Off-season GM scenario - Necas
This is something Carolina probably don't even listen to. IF (and it is an if) Necas goes anywhere, it's going to be for an offensive upgrade. Columbus don't have that. Otherwise, it's going to be EXTREMELY expensive. I'm talking more along the lines of Johnson, Sillinger and Chinakov instead of Chinakov, Ceulemans, and a cap dump. You have to understand, the picks don't interest Carolina. This is a team that knows it's not far away from a cup. You're buying from a contender, so the major attraction will be pieces that help the roster win now

What point? You said Necas isn't a consistent producer, but that is complete bullsh*t. You say you want to take your chances with Evangilista, but he's not even on pace to reach the 40 point mark Necas would have done as a rookie if the pandemic didn't stop the world...

As i said, Evangelista is 22. Nashville just waits and sees what they have in him. It is his rookie season. Beyond him they have Kemell, L'Heureux, wood, Tomasino, Fink, Schaefer and possibly another winger in this draft depending on where we end up in the 1st round. Evangelista made some real big strides in his game over the course of the season and there just isnt any real need or try and speed things along at wing when we have tons of options in our pipeline. If anything, we eventually trade some of those options out to fill our weaker areas (center and rhd).</div></div>
Necas had a single bad year where he "only" put up 40 points 2 years ago. If you exlude that season, he's not scored at a sub 60 point pace since he was 21...

Evangelista got 15G, L'Heureux looks like he is gonna be a gamer as well. Nashville doesnt need to get in a big hurry here and mortgage alot of futures to upgrade a wing position. Evangelista is 22. In 21-22, necas was getting 14G 27A 41P. Ill just have a little patience with Evangelista here and see what happens with him and our other players instead of throwing away a bunch of futures hoping to speed up the clock by a couple seasons.</div></div>
Necas also had those 41 points in the 56 game season, it's STILL a 60 point pace.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>villenash</b></div><div>He has one season of 71 points and is on pace for around 60 this season. Evangelista could be that same 60-70 point player and they keep one of, if not the best goalie prospect + a potential 50 point middle 6 agitator in the process. Necas is good, but he’s not a game breaker by any means and NSH doesn’t need to trade their best young players for a player like Necas. I’d much rather keep the younger players. I’m not opposed to trading for Necas, but this proposal would be a no from NSH.</div></div>
You see the issue here right? Necas will end up with 65-ish points again this year. Evangelista would be lucky to his 40 from here. The price for such a substantial upgrade will be expensive. You have Saros, and everyone knows that Trotz was willing to move Askarov at the draft last year. It's as likely Necas finds a form of consistency and hits 80-90, hell maybe even 100 if Rod doesn't come back as it is for Evangelista to hit 60, or L'Heureux to hit 50. This seems more like a misunderstanding of Necas on your part than an overvalue on my part

Why wouldn't they? Necas is a 70 point player and Nashville needs scoring, still sitting outside the top 10 in that regard while being solid across the board elsewhere. Necas improves them, Carolina get good young players back for their dynamic winger, where's the issue here?

Nikishin's ineligible, he's under KHL contract until the end of next season. Trust me, the fanbase is counting the days. As for the rest of it, Lindholm makes no sense at that price. Kuznetsov's been good as the 2C, sticking him on the wing is a waste. Burns should not play with Niki anyway when he does come across. The OFD needs a DFD to cover his mistakes, that's why Slavin is so elite.

Two pass first guys? Yeah. Stick Svechnikov on his wing and he'll be fine. He needs someone that can pot the puck. He was a PPG the first 20 games of the season because he was playing with Necas and Svechnikov. Things changed when Aho got hurt in California, and Rod refused to go back to the one line that was working for whatever reason

I don’t know if the Sabres are looking for another guy who would play third line minutes, because Krebs is doing that right now. What they really need is a dedicated fourth line Center who wins face offs, can kill penalties, and is responsible in his own end. I doubt Drury would want to be that guy, or he would probably be happy to stay in Carolina.</div></div>
He wanted a trade a few years ago for a larger role. Drury's been better than Krebs this year, so it is an upgrade on the third line. He is solid defensively and kills penalties.

No, I'm saying Drury's value is at about a 2nd, and it makes more sense for the Canes to part with a player stuck in a logjam than to move the picks... don't try and put words in my mouth :tearsofjoy
