Big Deal with ST Louis
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BDHockey</b></div><div>The spinning is actually insane. Crazy how you can put so much faith in Nadeau and in the same breath say that Thomas hasn't proven himself to be a 1C. For what its worth Aho isn't playing 1C to any of the people you listed either.</div></div>
Aho's playing 1C over Eichel, Zibanejad, Barkov, and Point. Thomas isn't. Thomas is closer to someone like Nick Suzuki in his skillset. A very, VERY good player. But a bona fide 1C? I struggle to see that.
Difference between Thomas and Nadeau is Nadeau is 18. Thomas is 24. Thomas will get a little better, but it's unlikely he takes another significant step. Nadeau already looks like a lock to play in Carolina's top 9 next year at 19. They cannot be compared. When Nadeau gets to 24, he could be the same quality as Thomas. He could be worse, he could be better. But to say middle six for Nadeau is an extreme amount of either ignorance or blatant incorrectness.

Only reason Carolina would move KK is to create the cap to sign Guentzel. If you're signing Guentzel, you're not getting KK and you're stuck with that GRaves deal whether you like it or not

Big Deal with ST Louis
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BDHockey</b></div><div>Eichel is not a good comparison for any trade, because there were so many contextual factors that led to that trade.
Aho and Thomas are not worlds apart from each other. Aho plays on better team and is also two years ahead in his career.
Points is they are both True 1C's and the deal above makes no sense.
In all likelihood you are trading an entire prime of a Elite 1C for Necas and probably some middle six level players.</div></div>
If you think Nadeau is going to be a middle six player, you missed the boat on his ENTIRE dominant season in the NCAA. He's 18, already played in the NHL, and is likely going to be a great top line player for a long time... Eichel is a better comparable because the totals are closer. Aho just had a 89 point season in 75 games. To say 100 was a possibility for him isn't a stretch. Thomas has one PPG season in his career. He's not proven he's a true 1C. In fact, given his defensive analytics, I'd argue he should probably be a 2C on a contender. He's not playing 1C over guys like Aho, Matthews, Point, Barkov, Zibanejad, MacKinnon, Eichel etc etc.

Fast's hurt, he got banged up in game 82 with Columbus after hitting the boards at high speed. It means Drury's in. Otherwise, the personnel is right, though if the practice lines from today are to be believed, the lines are very wrong

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>Would you trade Aho for that?
It's impractical to ask for a team to trade a young core piece that's signed long term to an extremely team friendly deal for pieces like that. That is the piece we are building around and have been for the last 2-3 years. There's no logical situation in which we tear down the centerpiece and expect good things to happen.</div></div>
Aho's a really bad comparable since hes better in every facet of the game. Eichel's probably a better comparable, and this is more than that... probably an overpayment by Carolina. Neither team does this

Worked for Guentzel, whose better. Fast isn't as good as Bunting so you get a certain 1st, but that should definitely do it for a rental... no?

Canes pass. There's not enough there to take Graves, if you want KK back too you need to keep adding. Plus, at that cap hit, why wouldn't they just extend Guentzel? That would be the entire point of adding more cap space. If Guentzel isn't coming back, they're not going to move KK

Caufield has 149 points in 205 games. 81 goals with 68 assists. He’s on pace to have 262 points in the same amount of games played as Necas, with 142 goals, which is 45 more goals. So not only is Caufield having better point prediction than Necas, he’s also more of a goal scorer and he’s doing it on a much worse team than Necas is</div></div>
Caufield also plays more because Necas is on a better team. Necas plays with worse linemates. Kuznetsov and Teuvo or Slafkovsky and Suzuki? Inferior linemates and a better points/60 says Necas is the more productive player. He's also a center.

Ew to all of this. Orlov is the best player in the Buffalo trade. Skinner's overpaid and Rod didn't want him originally. Samuelsson can't stay healthy.
The Utah trade doesn't make sense. Keller is tragic defensively, in a Rod system that's just going to cause issues. If Rod is gone, Carolina probably should add.
Canes pass on the third trade. Nothing there is interesting for KK. Maybe for Staal.

Issue is that Carolina has no interest in LD. Slavin, Orlov and Nikishin mean there's no need for one. A 1st is of no interest for Necas. You want him, it's probably going to start with either Caufield or Slafkovsky, and that's where negotiations are going to break down. Necas should also probably be playing center, since that is where he is so desperate to play

"But his left skate/60 is great on a full moon tuesday night"
Rod hasn't mismanaged KK. He should be thriving in Rods system, the problem is Drury has outperformed him this season. The team desperately needed a 2C and traded for a washed Kuzy to fill that spot instead of trusting KK, and deserved too. I don't trust him either.</div></div>
If you're going to try and argue pace means nothing,... I can't help you.
Rod mismanaged KK. But the 2C issue isn't a mistake from Rod on KK, it's a mistake on Necas. Necas has been desperate to play center his entire time in North America and the Kuzy acquisition just pours salt in the wound because he's not good in the circle either, he sucks defensively too, and he offers less offense. Rod's a poor man manager, and it's inarguable

While that's true, that's not worth taking on Anderson for. Necas gets strangled by Rod's system and in another free flowing offense instead of the "point shots and pray for deflections" Brind'amour wants, he's going to flourish. Especially on a team that will let him play as a center. Montreal are desperate for help up the middle, and Necas has a campaign of wanting to play down the middle that may as well be Roman because he's not giving up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FlameFlameFruit</b></div><div>That's the problem with cherry picking analytic models. His offensive numbers are "incredible", yet he has 25 points on the year. If all GM's sifted through useless analytics the league would be a crapshoot. "Incredible" offensive analytics but has 0 points in his last 5 games despite being put on a line with Svech.
His D analytics were great last year (albeit he was extremely sheltered), this season, he's been more sheltered and they are the complete opposite. Trash. Analytics don't paint the whole picture and cherry picking a few things to justify a 4.8m 4C is why I refuse to take you serious.
Where are you getting your statistics from? You're putting square pegs in round holes. He's scored over 35 points once. One time.
My mind is actually in shambles. There is absolutely no way you are a real, living, human being. Did KK gift you half of his salary? Dude, he sucks.</div></div>
This is an analytically run organization though, as so much of the league is becoming. Tulsky's models are considered the best in the league, it's why they're likely not going to give up on Kotkaniemi.
He had a 35 point pace three times in his career. Would have reached it in his first year in Carolina if Wilson hadn't had the dirty hit. That's why he's not going anywhere. This has been a down year for KK. Absolutely. However, he's also been wildly unlucky with his PDO and remains a true breakout candidate. Rod has mismanaged KK and I don't think that' even remotely arguable. Kotkaniemi should have been the heir to Staal. I maintain that the Staal extension is the mistake here. Yes, KK's cap hit is still higher, but at 23, he's already known to be a great defensive player. Has been since he came into the league. This year, that's been an issue, but his offense has taken a huge leap forward. His xGF/60 is second to only Svechnikov on the Hurricanes (minimum 500 minutes, so doesn't include Guentzel or Kuznetsov). He's far from an anchor, and he's proven to be a clutch playoff performer in the past.
