Well since the Leafs aren't trading JVR for Fleury an awful deal for the Leafs, they are in no position to trade Fleury to the Flames. And why would the Leafs have to trade for UFA Campbell? Senseless.
Gardiner for Brodie might be fair, but I really don't know why the Leafs would do it. Gardiner is a greatly improved player.</i></div></div> Who's Campbell?

Not many of those situations are really comparable. Johanson got Jones so its really not helping prove over value. Hall was traded by a team that was desperate to get the type of player they got. Also considered a terrible trade by about every fan base. Kessel holds some weight as he was a great player on a bad team as evidenced by his play on Pit. On top of that he had a really expenaive contract which are harder to move. In the end he still got Kapanen and a first round on top of other assets. The. You have an RFA who wouldnt sign with his team and was traded for slightly more than the expected offer sheet. You're better off looking at something like the Ryan, Carter, and Richards trades.</i></div></div> Don't know if you agree with my analysis or not on the trades, but that's exactly what I was thinking for the "comparisons".

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>steinosaur19</b></div><div><i>You're overvaluing your players. Classic homerism. Just look at what Johansen, Hall, Oshie, Kessel, Hamilton, etc. returned in trades....</i></div></div> I'm not even a fan of the Avs, so...
And Duchene is better than everyone except Hall on this list. Those are terrible examples because Johansen was a one for one deal for an upcoming superstar Dman to a contender. Oshie is not nearly as good. Kessel got back an (A-) prospect and a (B-) prospect and a couple of high picks. So thanks for proving my point. Hamilton is a Dman, so can't really compare this, but for the sake of proving you wrong, he was traded for three high picks. Hall, on the other hand, was traded for a (B+) Dman to a rebuilding team. The Oilers got a underwhelming return that they could have got a heck of a lot more from, so that's an outlier.

Someone's a bit optimistic.
1. EDM needs to add more to get Duchene
2. I think that's a pretty even trade, I might be wrong though.
3. Although the Habs are trying to win the cup now, they would be trading their future franchise/#1 Dman.

The Leafs 2 years down the road
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canadian_Rednek</b></div><div><i>Ok I miss read your precious post about RW depth. And I realize this isn't a video game but with all this offensive talent coming up at the same time the Leafs are going to run into a similar situation to Chicago where they are constantly going to trade away good young talent for younger talent and draft picks so that some of those younger and cheaper players can take their place because of salary constraints. That's how Chicago started and how they survive with so many big contracts.
And the Duchene proposal was only intended to be for a playoff push nothing more so I would give up too much more to get him.</i></div></div> But you don't get Duchene just for a "playoff push". You get him because he'll be a part of your core for the next decade.

The Leafs 2 years down the road
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canadian_Rednek</b></div><div><i>I completely disagree. Nylander is under team control for years to another 4 years and superstar or not he's a rental player because he doesn't need to come back. Also Duchene plays C/LW so RW depth is irrelevant. Nylander has potential at center and Kapanen should easily be replaced by Bracco the following year so if we're dealing good young talent I'd part with Kapanen long before Nylander. And if your set on dealing Nylander it's not for a player with one year (rental) left on his contract.
So that's Gardiner, Kapanen and a 3rd, maybe considering how much control is left with Kapanen.</i></div></div> I honestly have no idea what you just said.
"Also Duchene plays C/LW so RW depth is irrelevant". I was stating that if the Leafs want Duchene on the left side which would be beneficial, then they would have to get rid of their RW depth. Nylander would not be a fit if they get Duchene. What do you not understand about that?
This isn't a video game where you can keep all of your best players and think that someone that is below those best players on the depth chart would get you a superstar.
Maybe Kapanen and something else idk would work but the Leafs would get cap constraint down the road.
