True, ya never know what Jets decide to do, and in this complete rebuild scenario, I could see them accepting something like Lappy, 2 1st rounders, and eat the cap of Eller

Coming from a non oiler fan, I completely agree. I feel like the Oilers need to let their young guys develop. If you have McDavid / Draisaitl down the middle, you will have success (Crosby / Malkin example, build around them with young, cheaper pieces)
But like I mentioned in my explanation, I think the Oilers were a legit (or even average goalie... sorry Smith) goalie away from making a deeper run. Getting an arguably top 5 player at his position in Helle might push them over the top, and you give up anything to win a cup in sports now days. So maybe players like Holloway, or Pulijarvi become available

Agreed, that's why I have the Jets retaining 4 mill on Wheeler, so his contract would only cost them about 4 mill AAV, plus they get Vesalainen who is young, cheap and under utilized in Winnipeg. Pretty low risk I felt, but I'm always curious to see what fans of the other teams think

Not a bad idea honestly, get rid of Wheeler and take on Bobrovsky. Almost cap dump for cap dump, but yet somewhat fills needs of the opposing teams

Canes trade is very interesting - not sure how likely WPG is on retaining 2x4 but I guess in your scenario they're entering a full rebuild. I actually would do that deal the more I think about it. My preference would be to get a younger goal scorer but Wheeler is still a very effective PPGish player and would be a good replacement for Nino if he left. 2 years remaining fits as well with when Canes will need some extra space for raises to guys like Aho, Pesce, Jarvis, Turbo.
Not sure if he'd want to come to CAR but I think he only has 5 team trade protection and I would imagine he wouldn't mind coming here to chase a cup.</div></div>
I just think without retaining salary on Wheeler, no team is going to want him. I see the Canes as a team that is right on the cusp of a championship, and I'm not saying Wheeler is the missing piece by ANY means lol, but I figured they might take him for 4 mill, plus getting Vesalainen who has potential, just hasn't been given an opportunity in Winnipeg IMO

I initially had Puli in the trade, but wasn't sure what Oiler fans would think of that. Same with Holloway. With their cap situation, I figured they'd value those young players on cheaper deals (depending what Puli signs for obviously)

Yikes, big no from Winnipeg. They aren't giving up their best Dman and forward for inferior and unproven players, and a mid round pick.
I know I have bias here, but I don't think the value is even remotely close

I fear you might be right. I also think they are just not utilizing him properly. Starting last year, Maurice had him with Lowry playing a checking role which I don't think is his strength. But at this point... not much seems like his strength... even in the AHL he doesn't stand out (at least in the games I've seen, which I'll admit is limited)

Gibson Thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>All_Knowing</b></div><div>You and I are on the same wave length on everything you said.
I signed Trocheck for that much because I didn't want to see the comments "Trocheck gets more". With the scrapes, a vet d to league minimum would be great.
So funny you say that: For Gibson trade, I tried to take out biasness (and also didn't want to hear the "not enough" for Gibson - despite that, still got a comment like that lol). I wouldn't give ANYTHING more than what I would above. I thought about taking Iorio out and putting Leason but opted not to (to avoid bias). Also thought about making the pick a conditional 2nd (if Caps make the Cup finals and Gibson plays 10+ games, turns to a first).
But overall, your thoughts were exactly mine as well.</div></div>
Every fan base over values their own prospects and players on here. Next to impossible to make a trade that everyone agrees on (I guess that's why we aren't actually GMs for NHL teams lol). From my Capitals fan perspective, I think a lot of what you did is pretty fair, nicely done

I like that trade as a Caps fan. Lots of value going to Vancouver, but Capitals are in win-now mode and Miller fits that need more than Lapierre, Iorio & any 1st rounder from this draft. Eller is a solid 2-way player but makes a good amount of money and I'm sure Caps fans would love to see McMichael in the top 9.
Overall, good move for both teams IMO, nicely done!

As a Jets fan, they need to find room for Heinola in their top 6. But if they can't, I could see him eventually getting fed up and wanting out of Winnipeg. I'd love to see him thrive in Seattle.

Great reasoning on all moves. As a fan of both the Jets and Caps, I think this trade favors the Caps. Dubios is a very good, young player and I don't think he'd get moved for 1st round picks which will hopefully be the 32nd picks in the next few drafts lol (wishful thinking as a Caps fan) and Lapierre who is a very good young player in his own right, but very unproven.
My opinion could change if Dubios is not looking to sign here long term obviously. The hope around Winnipeg at least in my view is Schiefele gets moved, build the offence around Dubios, Connor & Ehlers. If Dubios wants out, Chevy has proved that he's not afraid to move on given the right price (Trouba, Laine...)
Overall, I like a lot of the moves you made as a Capitals fan, I'm just not sure the Jets accept unless Dubios won't sign. I would also like to save a bit more cap space so we don't have issues when Willy comes back.

Future Jets Edition
I think the Jets could/should try to get more of a return for Schiefele.
I'm also wondering why throw 3 million at a backup goalie? Comrie was serviceable last year, and I personally think that the "new" NHL is less of a starter/backup and more of a tandem approach to goaltending, but I'm just curious.

Offseason
It's looking like Backstrom will at least start the season on LTIR and possibly be retiring which will do two things for the Caps. First, gives them some cap space, and second, makes a massive hole in their 2nd line center role. (does Lapierre or McMichael take that role?)
Also, I would personally agree with the getting younger, and I would like them to give some of their young Dmen like Alexyev & Johanssen a shot instead of signing Braun/Beaulieu.
I also don't hate the goalie trade you made, I just always get attached to players and would hate see a goalie like Sammy who has a lot of potential IMO leave , but Caps are in win-now-mode, so I think this helps that immediate need.
Nicely done!

Leafs - WPG
I'm sure Jets fans are going to want a bigger return for Schiefele and Wheeler, but in reality, Wheeler's contract almost makes him untradeable IMO. So getting some solid pieces back in Sandin, Nylander and even Kerfoot is not a bad deal for both sides.
Makes room for Perfetti to play in the middle in the top 6 too which is nice.
